Dr Grady operated on me for a hernia repair. The surgical team didn't shave what they taped, they stapled me up, and left me in a very bad way when it came time to change my bandages. The hernia reoccured, in other words, the repair broke, within weeks of the surgery. I told this to Dr Grady, he didn't believe me. I was in terrible, constant pain, but all he would do was say "wow, that was an owie" or "sorry you're hurting" then stand there with a blank look on his face. After months of agony, not sleeping from the pain, I finally had to fax him and demand that he do something, because the hernia had reoccurred and one was coming on the left, too. He still didn't believe me, but finally referred me to a pain doctor. The pain doctor ordered a CT Scan right away. The CT Scan showed exactly what I had be saying to DR Grady, the his repair broke and I had a new one on the left. When I took the results to his office, his employee lied to me and told me he wasn't in the office. On previous visits I'd been treated as though I was looking for pain meds, when the truth is my hernia had broken, was causing terrible pain and I knew another was coming. After his lying, rude receptionist told me he wasn't in that day, I had not even made it to my car before the cell rang and it was Dr Grady, upstairs in his office, reading the CT Scan report. Seems he was there all day. He didn't know why, he said, she said he wasn't in the office. He had me come right back up and look at the films. He said, "Oh I never thought you were here for pain meds" yet he never would prescribe them or take my complaints seriously, or do anything about the horrible shape I was in. Because of this man, I suffered for months in pain, turning to him for help and could not get it until I faxed him after not sleeping for FOUR DAYS straight over the labor day holiday. I hinted I might have to get a lawyer, THEN he calls in some pain meds and refers me to another doctor. And when he saw that the CT Scan showed that he should have been listening to me all along, he got nice as could be. Amazing huh? I had to have another surgery to fix the hernia he didn't fix the first time well enough for it to not break, and have the other one fixed he said he couldn't tell I had. The scar from the stapling hurt so bad that it had to be cut out and re-stitched up again by the next surgeon who went in to fix both sides. To this day I hurt from that scar and have entrapped nerves from the first operation. Your mileage may vary, but my experience was that Dr Grady did not listen to me, ignored my pleas for help each month, allowed his staff to treat me like a drug seeker and lie to me, and didn't respond to my telling him that my hernia had reoccured and a new one was coming until I had to send a strong letter by fax, and then have another doctor order that CT Scan. He could have done that months before. He did not. Why? To this day I don't know the answer, all I know is that I wish I had gone to a surgeon in San Francisco or to anyone other than Dr Grady.
