Came to Dr Bucksbaum because trying to get my migraines under control, he asked me 1 question 3 times in a row never wrote anything down. Said we would try upping the dosage of Topamax to 75mg twice a day and then said would see me in 6 months. I had mentioned I had Fibromyalgia and he basically said that it didn't exist and my pain would go away if I lost weight, I've had fibro for over 20years and my pain was just as bad when I was 120 - 130 maybe worse because now I'm on meds for fibro, but I could not believe how he told me to lose weight, he said he didn't care if I starved myself or stuck my fingers down my throat and threw up as long as it worked... This from a Dr
On my way out where you set up appts(that wasn't going to happen) I asked if he had called in the updated rx and they looked at my chart and he didn't write that down either so they said they would have his nurse call me, after 3 days of waiting I had to call and they finally called in the updated rx but when I picked it up he updated the wording on how many I should now take but he still ordered the same amount of medication, so basically if I took it the way he prescribed I would have run out, so had to call again to get it straighten out... I wouldn't even recommend going to this Dr for a headache. He obviously doesn't listen to his patients or he can't remember what they told he after 1 minute. He needs to retire

I have to admit that when I read the reviews on here about Dr Buchsbaum, I was a little worried. I proceeded to my appointment with an open mind. WOW was I ever impressed. Dr Buchsbaum was recommended to me by the physician that I work for. I knew that he wouldn't steer me wrong. I had been sick with dizziness, nausea, vomiting, ringing in my ears and diarrhea to name a few. Dr Buchsbaum sat and listened to my symptoms. He immediately knew what was wrong with me. When I explained to him what my primary and other specialists were looking at for a diagnosis he told me, "You do not have MS and this is why." Those are the words that I wanted to hear for almost 2 months. He explained everything and diagnosed me right away with Meniere's disease. A far cry from MS! His straightforward nature, confidence in himself and his knowledge made me know that this was the right Dr for me. He does have another resident in the room with him but, come on, he is a professor, has been doing this since the 1960's, and U of A is a well known teaching hospital so this did not bother me at all. I left his office with a HUGE sense of relief; head held high and light at the end of the tunnel. Not staring into blackness anymore. If you want a Dr that has a no nonsense approach, is blunt, professional and knowledgeable, Dr Buchsbaum is the neurologist for you. If you like being sick, unnecessary testing, second guessing physicians or just don't like hearing the truth, go somewhere else because he will probably irritate you. I on the other hand, had a GREAT experience and would definitely recommend him to people.

I came in to see Dr Buchsbaum with the concern of symptoms with my hand/fingers. Dr Buchsbaum ALWAYS has another person in the patient room- either another physician completing a fellowship or another general physician. Although I do not mind having more Drs in my room- I do not appreciate that Dr Buchsbaum seems to talk to the physicians more than he speaks with his patient! (This has happened exactly as described on more than one visit.) It appears as though Dr Buchsbaum is more concerned with "impressing" the other physicians more than he is concerned about his patient. Furthermore, Dr Buchsbaum ONLY came to a single conclusion- based on my having to correct him multiple times on my symptoms (he seems to have a listening issue as well) and felt that there can only be ONE possible reason for my symptoms and ordered only a single test. I completed the test- which came back normal (good news) and upon my follow up with Dr Buchsbaum and yet another physician, Dr Buchsbaum had no other possible idea what my diagnosis could be. Nothing, no other differential diagnosis. Just amazing. So I was sent on my way without any understanding of my symptoms- but I was clearly aware that Dr Buchsbaum no longer felt that I was his patient or responsibility- since my one exam was normal and he was out of ideas. Choose another DR.

After 5 minutes with this doctor, I was dismissed after being told that I must be a "nervous gal". This is after being referred by three specialists, two ER doctors and my general practitioner to be evaluated for Fibromyalgia and MS. I have been in physical pain with severe numbness for sixteen months. It took everything in me to make it to this appointment. I waited five weeks to see Dr. Buchsbaum because I was told he was the best in the area. He did not shake my hand or acknowledge my or my husband's presence once entering the examination room. He did not look at my pain journal or list of symptoms. The fist question he asked me was if I tended to "have nerves". He asked this question before even looking at me or any notes. He did not look at the checklist I was given to fill out or the CT I was told I had to bring with me in order to see him. This doctor may have been "good" at one time. Now however, I would not recommend him to anyone. I have never written a poor review for anyone. I feel it is important to let any person who is considering going to this doctor for anything more than a headache to please go somewhere else.

This doctor's office is plastered with ads for a particular drug and that is his drug of choice to prescribe and will not consider any other treatment. It was unsurprising to me as a patient that this medication was the only treatment offered.
