Dr Powell is a wonderful doctor! I have been taking my two year old daughter to him since birth. My daughter has severe acid reflux and had multiple feeding issues at birth. If it had not been for the support and constant guidance of Dr. Powell she would have probably been on feeding tubes. Later in her first year she suffered from multiple ear infections and ultimately had to have two sets of tubes. Dr. Powell did not delay in a referral for her to an ENT and was proactive in her treatment. I feel he is an doctor who uses a common sense approach and truly listens to the parents. I can't imagine him being insensitive to anyone. We consider him the best of the best!

I love Dr. Powell and Fuquay Peds. We have had nothing but good experiences with our almost 3 year old. As a past Peds urology nurse I know how difficult it is to catherize, especially girls. I would not hold that against the nurses. I have always had a great experience with compassionate nurses. As a nurse I also believe vaccines are safe and the best approach to keep our children healthy. I pose this question, "Would you knowingly send your child into a room with a person who had any preventable disease, such as pertusis, measles, mumps, rubella, polio? If you don't vaccinate your child that is what you are asking of the parents who believe vaccines work. Vaccines hold a purpose to protect and have been around for decades. Keep up the good work Dr. Powell and Fuquay Peds. Keep advocating for children, despite how naive their parents can be!!!!

I found FV Peds and Dr Powell to be the most wonderful! I take all four of my children there and will continue to do so, it's unfortunate that negative comments are made, I have yet to hear one!

DON'T USE F-V PEDIATRICS!!!! Dr. Powell was our original doctor at F-V Peds. We hadn't heard a lot of good things about him, but decided to let the doc reveal who he is on his own. Turns out, he wasn't so bad..."old school" in some of his thinking which I liked. Then we tried another doc to have a "back up" in case Dr. Powell wasn't available. We have gone to F-V Peds since our daughter was born 6 months ago...NO MORE!!!! They are concerned mostly with getting kids in and out as fast as possible, and collecting co-pays adn insurance money. Most of the nurses with the exception of one of two are very curt and don't really like when you ask questions...especially if you show ANY intelligence reguarding health matters/vaccines/medical procedures...my daughter developed what appears to be seizures a week after a series of vaccines at their offc...she needed blood taken and the nurse felt "threatened" when I asked questions she had no answers to...I said, "pls just take the blood sample"...and rather than treat her patient WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM (seems to be a trend at F-V Peds from what I am reading)...2 nurses were unable to insert a catheter to get a urine sample...so over the wails of my infant, asked them to stop...I asked for my daughter's medical records and when I questioned why I had to sign a certain document, Dr. Simpson said, "just sign the damn thing so we can all go home!" Where'e the concern for the patient??? They sent us home telling us to "keep and eye on her" and bring her back in the morning to recheck her blood and try the urine sample again. The only reason I went back was because seizures, which my daughter had again in the morning, are nothing to mess around with...and until I could explore other medical options, wanted her seen again. This time the nurse admitted the pertussis vaccine could be the culprit (with seizures a possible a long term side-effect). Two different nurses STILL COULD NOT get a cath in my daughter, seemed perplexed and rather than admit they were having trouble, made excuses for why the fault was my 6-month old daughter's anatomy...not that as professionals they couldn't do it. By the end of the visit, they had referred us to a nuerologist...but before I walked out the door, the Big Cheese Administrator took me into an end offc, said they no longer wanted me to come to that practice...saying he had to "protect his staff from feeling threatened" and then ushered me out the back door so as not to pass by other patients (my car was in the front of the building). So my daughter is having seizures, potentially from a vaccine they administered and they are willing to just give up...in my estimation, because they are unprofessional, medically not prepared and more concerned about lawsuits than the best care of their tiniest patients. And this attitude seems prevalent among the whole of F-V Peds. So while Dr. Powell wasn't a troubling concern...the entire practice as a whole is. And I will continue to tell others of the experience I had there.

We have used Dr Powell since the day my son was born and he is soon to be 18 ! I'm dreading the day when we can't see him anymore! All these comments about him being a mean bad Dr are ridiculous!!!!!! He definately is very straight forward and says what he believes in, but he is the best and believe me we have had some serious respitory issues thru the years!
WE LOVE YOU DR POWELL!!!!!

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I had the same experience as the person who wrote the "Horrid Doctor" review on 3/27/2010 if you do a google search- only Dr. Powell did not walk out of the room. I insisted he finish the wellness check part of the visit since I was paying for it. The great reviews you see about his personality are true- until you ask questions about treatments. His great bedside manner WAS the reasons we chose this practice- I no longer have respect for this Dr.

At the visit, I told him that we wanted to discuss concerns about vaccines and make sure we were completely educated on them before giving them to our son. This was all it took for him to turn from Dr. Powell with the great personality you see in the other reviews into Dr Defensive Powell. who talks down to you and insinuates that you are not intelligent enough to ask questions and that you are undermining him and questioning his ability to treat patients. I explained that I was not questioning his ability to be a Dr. but I am a new mom and wanted to discuss/question all treatments for my son and possible side effects so that I felt comfortable with what is done for/to him. I'm not sure why he felt challenged by this and became EXTREMELY defensive to the point of being very rude. He turned the appointment into a debate asking me for clinical trials or hard facts and references to site my reason for asking questions about vaccines. I DIDN"T REALIZE THAT YOU WOULD NEED TO BRING MATERIAL TO DEBATE YOUR DR. AND THAT YOU WEREN"T ALLOWED TO ASK A QUESTION WITHOUT IT OR ASK QUESTIONS AT ALL! I thought a dr. was supposed to be there to guide you through treatments and answer questions-especially when the patient is your new born son.

I too refuse to ever see Dr. Powell again and I'm considering changing practices since the way he treats patients seems to be accepted- I'm waiting to here back from the administration department for the practice about this situation.

Before even looking at my child during his 6 month well child check-up, Dr. Powell decided to berate my stance on slow tracking my babies vaccines. He was aggressive, cut me off when I spoke, and ultimately, walked out on the appointment. I did not instigate any of this confrontation and actually have no problem with vaccines. We just do them slower in case of any side effects. He was completely disrespectful and unprofessional. Very disgusted with him and have requested to NEVER have another appointment with him. There is NO excuse for the way he acted today.

We absolutely LOVE Dr. Hugh Powell! He has treated all four of our children. He is funny and a "buddy" to the children but always professional and direct with parents. We are in the process of adopting a special needs child from overseas. Dr. Powell gladly reviewed his medical records and gave us honest feedback! He is a fantastic physician!
Thank you, Dr. Powell!!!!

We had to switch pediatricians when my son was approx 9mos old and after realizing we didn't have many to choose from in the area we chose Fuquay Pediatrics. We saw Dr. Powell in the practice. Dr. Powell was amazing with our son. We had to see Dr. Powell several times throughout the next few months in the fall/winter for what was eventually called "Reactive Airway Disease" but Dr.Powell was very cautious to give our son that diagnosis. He didn't want to just quickly label our son with a disease and start giving him medicine after medicine after medicine. I love that Dr. Powell was very thorough and wanted to exhaust all measures to make sure that he had the correct diagnosis before we began what could be a long and exhaustive process of medications. My son had been one who had recently been getting "white coat" syndrome and getting scared of Drs he saw coming around. I'd noticed my son never being scared or crying when Dr. Powell comes around. Dr. Powell has a way of making children (and parents) feel at ease! I most certainly recommend Dr.Powell at Fuquay Pediatrics.
