I was nervous about going in with the doctor as Ibought the deal on groupon. They were all very pleasant and helpful and fit me in very quickly. I spoke to The doctor after a massage and I cannot say enough good things about him. I am a dancer and he knows and understands a dancers body very well. He also is not a chiropractor who cracks you and makes you return daily. Also takes insurance!
I recently got a massage with Jenn, and it was absolutely amazing. I got a great deal through lifebooker, arrived early and was showed into the back room almost right away by a very friendly and helpful staff. This was my first professional massage, and Jenn made me feel completely at ease and was very attentive to my requests. She also has strong, amazing hands. I went in with neck pain from sitting at a desk hours every day, and now it's gone completely.
I also had a brief screening with Dr. Piken, who is very impressive (beware: you will be persuaded to try seeing a chiropractor even if you're convinced you don't need one) and I plan to have a more length session with him later this month. Part of the reason I wanted to sign up was because there was absolutely NO pressure whatsoever, and it was a great deal.
All the people who work there are super nice - you won't be disappointed if you try it out!
I didn't see Dr. Piken for my first visit, but massage therapist Jennifer Soto. I was in agony with a muscle spasm around my lower left shoulder, not even a muscle relaxant was helping, and I saw an offer on a deal site for Innate's medical massage. I decided to go, with some desperation, to see if there was anything that could be done to relieve the pain. It was the best decision I could have made. Jennifer was so smart, skilled and careful about what she was doing ?? and kindly explained what was going on in my back ?? and the hour-long massage not only immediately relieved about 70 percent of the acute pain I felt, but I left the office able to take a deep breath for the first time in days and sleep and sit comfortably that night. By the next day I was even able, quite gently, to take a yoga class. In just one hour at Innate, my back felt dramatically improved thanks to Jennifer's intervention. Without question, the most effective massage I've ever had and I was so grateful. I've since recommended Jennifer to a couple of people struggling with back issues. In addition, both Sojourner at the front desk and Dr. Piken were extremely friendly. Wonderful experience.
I have been going to Dr Piken for about 10 -12 years, sometimes for a running or dance injury, and sometimes just for maintenance. I've recommended him to friends who have been very grateful. In addition to Dr. Piken really knowing what he's doing, his bedside manner is wonderful and he is always willing to answer questions and discuss issues.
I recently had a wonderful massage with Jennifer. I plan on scheduling another with her as soon as I can.
I've been to a lot of chiropractor's on both coasts and have almost always had good experiences with the massage therapists that work there. They just have a professionalism and knowledge of the body that other places don't. Jen at Innate Chiropractic was no different. She uses the perfect pressure with great technique, is extremely friendly, as are all the others in the office, (especially the receptionist, just give her a call), and I highly recommend this place. Also, the prices are very reasonable!
Dr. Piken made me feel very confident in knowing that my pain would not last for always. After my first treatment I was 25% better and I'd like to note that the young lady at the front desk is the epitome of pure kindness. She is best thing for his office because she is honest, respectful and assured me that finances would not hinder my treatment. The massage specialist that she hired is also excellent at her job. She made my body feel renewed. Fantastic work!
This is a long one; sorry, everyone.
I've been a patient of Dr. Piken's since 2005, off and on. Off because I moved in and out of New York a few times, though my interaction with Dr. Piken was influential enough that I sought out a chiropractor wherever I went. My initial visits to his practice weren't focused around a specific complaint, though I found myself using chiropractic to manage the aches and pains of running. It wasn't until the summer of 2010, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, when I began to appreciate how important Dr. Piken's care and insight were not only to the management of my disease, but to my overall feelings about health and wellness.
When I was diagnosed, in addition to pursuing conventional treatments, I immediately consulted with Dr. Piken. We talked about the role of chiropractic adjustments and nutrition, but he also reminded me about listening to my intuition, not being scared into anything and being an advocate for what I need and believe - advice that was difficult to reconcile with the the philosophy at the large, one-size-fits-all institution where I was a patient, but which ultimately led to a treatment plan that felt right for me. Surgery, chemo and radiation were generally easy for me and seem even more so when I hear fellow patients describe their experiences. I credit this to the complementary care I received from Dr. Piken, as well as his support during those long, frustrating days of treatment. Toward the end of chemo, when I was exhausted, struggling to focus and experiencing the first symptoms of lymphedema, something he said brought tears to my eyes - "This is how your body has chosen to heal itself." Whenever I notice some twinge or annoyance leftover from my surgery, I remember those words and feel better; like many of his words, I'll carry them with me.
I did suffer one side effect from treatment: I developed lymphedema secondary to the removal of lymph nodes during surgery and subsequent chemotherapy. The lymphedema therapists with whom I consulted told me that lymphedema was irreversible and that treatment was limited to compression and massage. My expectations were a lot higher than not wanting it to get worse; I wanted it to go away. Dr. Piken suggested laser therapy, and I was able to find research studies demonstrating the benefits associated with laser for lymphedema patients. I'd had the laser before, as treatment for pain relating to a meniscal tear (a running injury). It worked, so I was more than willing to try again. Knowing that it couldn't do any harm, that it was painless and would take ten minutes once or twice a week, I eagerly began laser therapy, which was coupled with regular adjustments.
After several weeks of treatment, the lymphedema was no longer visually appreciable, and measurements showed my affected left arm was now smaller than my right arm. Not bad for an "irreversible" condition. I should also add that the lymphedema improved while I was undergoing radiation, which is known to cause the condition or make it worse.
Months later, the improvement in my arm has been maintained, and I have no symptoms of lymphedema. My cancer treatment is complete, and I think of myself as whole and healthy. I couldn't be happier with my experience and am grateful for Dr. Piken's wisdom, open-mindedness and dedication to empowering patients and giving us the tools to heal, whether that's an adjustment, nutritional advice or laser therapy. I believe Dr. Piken's holistic approach to care can be credited with not only making my surgery, treatment and lymphedema manageable, but actually not that big a deal, and certainly not an impediment to living a healthy, happy life. Before I met Dr. Piken, I was scared to trust a chiropractor; now I can't imagine my healthcare team without one. Dr. Piken has been an invaluable friend, guide and partner in health.
Jennifer is a wonderful addition to Dr. Piken's staff. I had my first massage with her yesterday. She is very skilled. I have quite a few knotty adhesions in my shoulders and upper back, which she worked wonders on. That takes strength. Yet she also has a gentle touch and she knows when to use that approach. I sometimes have pain in my hands and when she worked on them I was in heaven. Jennifer spent an hour with me on the overall massage, which was great and then gave me some very good advice about exercises that would help me with some of my ongoing physical stresses and issues. Not only did I enjoy the massage because of her skill, but I also found Jennifer to be a warm and caring healer. That is an unbeatable combination. Thank you Jennifer and Dr. Piken. I will surely be back soon !!!!.
Dr. Piken is fantastic - I've been going to him since 2003 and have had much success in coping with my chronic back pain due to soliosis and general NY stress! He listens to you and helps you with gentle adjustments. He has a new massage therapist, Jennifer, who is also wonderful and compliments his holistic approach to well being! I would (and have) recommended him to many of my office-mates!
I came into Dr. Piken's office broken of body and spirit. I couldn't play or effectively coach softball without severe pain, which was very disheartening. Over the last month and a half, Dr. Piken has helped me get my head on straight, change my diet (by the mere power of suggestion), and get the pain out of my rear (literally).
He is a get-down-to-it, right-to-the-point kind of person, which is refreshing and exactly what you need when you feel like things are unnecessarily breaking down. He can explain the "why," even if you know the answer all along.
The Wellness Workshops on Thursdays are great and they cover various topics with respect to healthcare and just personally maintaining ourselves properly. He is a firm believer in knowledge is power.
However, one of the most subtle, yet powerful things about the office is the staff. Super-friendly, outgoing, and really make you feel welcome. They really breathe life into the space and just give off a really positive vibe. Between the staff and Dr. Piken, it's really difficult to walk out of there in a bad mood - no matter how much pain you're in.
If you want to not just feel better, but be better, then you should make an appointment.
Dr. Piken is the real deal. I came to him with very little mobility, and living with a great deal of pain. He did an array of tests and diagnosed my problem within a couple of weeks, and was able to significantly decrease my pain and increase my strength, balance, and mobility within six weeks. He also counseled me on diet, exercise, and supplements. He is caring, personable, professional and knowledgable.
I have been going to Dr. Piken for years....He is an extraordinarily talented and caring physician....He takes all the time you need....Listens, educates and heals....I consider him my primary care physician....He also staffs his office with positive, caring peolple....The whole experience has brought me back time after time....
I have been a patient and employee of Dr. Pikens for about 2 years and I couldn't ask for a better person in my health corner. I feel truly blessed everyday to be apart of this team that actually cares about its patients!!! Don't believe me! Call our office for a complimentary screening!!! 212.581.9079
This place will cost you a small fortune for a massage and back crack, but they do have heavenly hands! I got a deep tissue massage and it took me to another world. I would highly recommend this place.
After struggling for months to heal a knee injury Dr. Piken was a god send. It was my first time seeing a chiropractor and I knew very quickly I was in good hands. I learned so much about myself and my body in the process as he helped guide me through other issues as well. As a result, I feel a noticeable difference and sense of well being. The office is amazing with great service and maintains a stress free atmosphere. All of which is a part of the treatment I suppose. I'm very grateful to have found Dr. Piken and wish others could experience this same level of care.
=)
Dr. Piken is an awesome doctor. The service and level of care is genuine. He will spend as much time with you as necessary and his staff is knwledgable and understanding! Funny too!
So, here's another way to state it = His office and staff exude the good health and overall healthy lifestyle that he offers through his services. You cannot go wrong - so run don't walk!
