South Bay ob/gyn was OK for regular gynecological exams and getting my birth control refilled, but when we decided to try to become parents, I found the practice and the doctors difficult and frustrating. We never saw the same doctor twice, because I needed weekly appointments, and appointments with the same doctor two weeks in a row were unavailable. When the sonogram showed that I miscarried, the staff was cold and unfriendly. We waited in an office for the doctor (a doctor whom I had not previously met) for at least 30 minutes. When she finally did see us, she was cold, unsympathetic, and, without ever giving me an examination, immediately demanded I schedule a D&C in 3 days-- because that's when the anesthesiologist would be in. When I managed to ask if we could wait to see if nature would take its course, she was curt and seemed annoyed. She did not explain the benefits/risks of D&C as opposed to waiting; I felt she was impatient with our questions. It was a terrible experience--avoid this practice.

I am surprised by these negative reviews. My friends and I have all had good experiences here. Yes, there is a wait, especially for Dr's Judge and Lockhart, but I do like all of the dr's in the practice. I made appts with each one so I would be familiar with them at the time of delivery. Dr. Judge was with my through my labor, and Dr. Lester did the c-section at the last minute due to their shift change. I was scared and they got me thru it. I only found these reviews coming online to look up the number to make an appointment, so, yes, I am going back.

Dr Lester is the best Doctor I have ever had. That is noy true, that you always get different doctors. You just have to tell them your doctors name when you make an appointment. I have nothing but good expreience there, however you really have to wait sometimes, but this is not a news if you choose a good Ob-Gyn.

I have heard awful things about this doctor and her affiliated practice. One is that she has no bedside manner, makes the patient feel uncomfortable, and has a way of making people with first time pregnancy feel like they are crazy. I would not recommend this doctor or her past affiliated practice for anything.

I have been going to Southbay for almost 10 years now and everytime I go I have a problem. The staff is horrible. They do not know what they are doing. The only reason why I still go there is because I really like my doctor. I wish she would move and open up her own practice so i wouldnt have to deal with such idiots.

I am having my 4th child and have used South Bay 3 out of 4 times. What a mistake. I guess I like abuse. The doctors are ok but the staff is horrible...I would say 95% of those girls don't know what they are doing. I was left on a machine for 1 hour without anyone checking on me. The girl didn't even apologize. I spoke with the office manager who was apologetic but she didn't mean it either. To make matters worse, the Dr who I saw right after I complained was alittle rude. She asked me why I was on the machine in the first place. Is she kidding? SHe is the docotr how should I know. Isn't that her job??? Do yourself a favor and stay away. There are many OB?GYN's out there.

My husband and I have had nothing but a positive experience at South Bay. We went as a referall from a family member. The doctors were compassionate, especially during a miscarriage, infertility treatments and a very difficult pregnancy. My needs were always met. The wait may be long at times, but I new when my turn came, time would be spent answering my questions. When you are dealing with OB-GYN emergencies happen and the office can get backed up, I know several times I was that emergency and I was always seen promptly.

South Bay OB Gyn is located right on Montauk Highway in West Islip, west of Good Sam. They have been in the neighborhood for quite awhile and have a decent reputation, which I why I went there when I was pregnant with my first child. I beg to differ with popular opinion, however. This office is overcrowded and it is difficult to get an appointment. There are so many doctors that you rarely see the same once twice and definitely lose continuity in your treatment. For example, I had never met the doctor who came to the hospital to deliver my baby. In fact, I spent several minutes on the telephone (in labor) with him where he was telling me (it was New Year's Day) I was not in labor, to relax. If you have ever been in labor, relaxing when not in the hospital is relatively impossible. Thank goodness I had a doula who believed me and rushed all the way from two counties away (pregnant herselt) to make sure if I was in labor - which I was. She rushed me to the hospital and the experience only got worse. To make a long story short, inappropriate comments were made about me and my child, the emergency c-section was incorrectly performed and my treatment was just terrible. When I had my second child and went to another OB GYN, there was no comparison. The treatment at this doctors office is generic and uncaring and I would not recommend them.

PROS: Convenient location, good reputation
CONS: Poor service, incompetency, impersonal

The two biggest issues facing OB/GYN offices is scheduling and individualized care. So many centers I've dealt with or heard of in the Long Island area have difficulty scheduling patients for short-term appointments, and they treat their patients rather impersonally.

South Bay OB/GYN is not like that at all. I've never had any problems getting an appointment with my doctor on an emergency basis, and when some problems have come up, my doctor has been extremely thorough and conservative with her treatment. I've been treated with great care at South Bay, and if you're looking for a new OB/GYN in this area, I definitely recommend you see one of the doctors here.
