Wow!! I am impressed with the new and improved office staff at Dr Maccarone's office. They really have improved the wait time, the time it takes to get back in a room and even have been able to see the Dr within 30 minutes of my appointment time. I will definately be using this Dr for all of my health needs!!!

I have been a patient of Dr Maccarone's for over three years now, and yes he is going through a divorce, which by the way is at a near end. Dr Maccarone was blindsided by this divorce and handled himself very well in spite of all that has been thrown in his direction. As a physician, he has helped me tremendously in diagnosing and treating my illnesses. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for my appointments and was treated with dignity and respect by his staff, they were pleasant and dhandled themselves very professionally. I will continue to see this physician because he actually CARES about his patients and doesn't just throw prescriptions at them.

Dr. Macarone is a great doctor, and his PA's are top-shelf. His front office staff however, has to be the absolute worst in the industry.

I arrived for an appointment but forgot my checkbook. I whipped out my credit card to cover my co-pay and was told there was a $5.00 fee for using it. I refused to pay a "convenience fee" (which is forbidden by the merchant agreement with credit card companies) but offered to return home for my checkbook, about a 10 minute round trip. I was told in a matter-of-fact manner that should I walked out the front door my appointment would be canceled and I would be charged a $45.00 cancellation fee.

To be clear, the waiting room was standing room only, and Dr Macarone, while lauded for taking time with his patients, is notorious for missing appointment times not by minutes, but by hours. I easily expected to wait an hour or more that day to be called back.

I refused to pay the "convenience fee" and left the office. For the next 6-9 months (or longer) I was "hounded" by the office to pay the cancellation fee. I called and wrote letters to the office manager, but he/she would neither speak to me on the phone, or respond to my letter. I eventually contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. I was told by the BBB that Dr. Macarone's office failed to respond to their attempts to reconcile.

While the amount ($5) wasn't that big of a deal, it was the principal of the matter and the office staff's attitude which rubbed me raw. I easily could have returned within minutes with my checkbook and re-checked in for my appointment and paid my fee. But they would have none of it. They absolutely refused to allow me to walk away from the counter without paying my copay or cancelling my appointment. It was sheer insanity from my perspective. It made no sense from either a business or an ethical standpoint.

Needless to say, while I enjoyed Dr. Macarone as my physician, I no longer use his service. It is bad enough to be sick, but to be sick and be forced to deal with rude and arrogant office staff who are without reason or compassion is untolerable. I am still puzzled to this day by their attitude and action. Dr. Macarone would do well to take a hard look at who sits in his front office, as they are the face of his practice to the public, and for sure cost him one loyal patient. Hopefully, these bad apples have been tossed away since this incident occured.
