Each time I go to James Salon in Greeley, Colorado, I feel wonderfully treated. Everyone is cheerful and professional. I usually see the owner, James, doing his magic on someone's hair and he is always pleasant and jovial, always smiling.

Every time I get my hair colored and styled, no matter who does my hair, I'm very happy with the results. James, the owner, takes a lot of time to personally train each stylist he hires. I know this because I've seen him do this over the years that I've been a customer here.
The pricing is a little more than your typical salon but that's because this is NOT your typical salon. When I walk in I'm greeted with a smile and asked if I'd like some tea (I love their tea - it's Aveda tea and tastes like licorice). When my hair is styled, I can count on receiving a neck and scalp massage (I love this!). No matter who my stylist is, she takes time to listen to what I'm in need of and gives me professional advice.
I've received other services such as massage, waxing, facials and even had my make-up done. Each service was done professionally and cheerfully and with great care. Every time I leave James Salon Spa, I leave feeling really rejuvenated. They are consistent in their quality of services and that's hard to be consistent! I highly recommend you try them out.

Whoa, my experience at the UNC James Salon was the same. I realize that it is a business - but, between being late for my first appointment, without apology, I was constantly interrupted by the specialist who needed to answer the phone. When it came to blowing my hair dry - well, she just didn't get it. Why, when I am told, my hair is immeasurably damaged would they deign to curling my hair with an electric curler? I cancelled my appointment today for colour and cut. Too expensive to find out they do a haphazard effort.

Business Response:

We are sorry for such a delayed response to your comments. First of all we apologize for being late to your first appointment as we would appolgize for any appointment we are late to. We would also like to state that all of our services and products are 100% gauranteed within a resonable amount of time: so long as a unsatisfied client communicates their concerns to a Salon Manager. Our UNC Salon is an extremely busy salon with many appointments booked each day. Therefore, we do our best to stay on time but unforseen things do occur. We employ some UNC students to answer the many phone calls we receive, however, their class schedules sometimes keep them from their scheduled shift at the salon. As far as the prices of our services, they are student friendly and are considered extremely fair for the thousands of clients that partronage our salons. Please visit jamescampussalon.com for a full price menu of services.

This is the first and hopefully, the only poor experience I will ever receive from an Aveda Salon. It also isn't an ideal location unless you attend UNC. There's no signage directing to the salon on the campus. I had to speak to more than one person at the salon to locate it in the University Center building. My first impression is that it is too small and somewhat cramped. There's more or equal space ratio of Products and shelving to actual Styling area. If it weren't for Aveda signage, I wouldn't have differentiated it much from a typical lower end salon attached to a retail center. Upon seating, disorganization and an unkept styling area surrounded me. Hair swept haphazardly, a bottle of unused color sat atop the workstation I was placed at. Eventually, I just wanted to leave and shower realizing that I was obviously covered in an unclean cape. A slightly damp cape was placed around my neck. Finding that flakey material and hair that was not my own it fueled my suspicion. Noticing an odor to it confirmed that at the very least, I wasn't the first guest to wear it. After privately mentioning my concern, the cape was then changed. The velcro closure was chocked with clipped hair that also was not my own. Equally disturbing was seeing it placed into the drawer my new cape was retrieved from. Processing began prior to much concern, so reversing my salon choice was not possible. Remaining seated; I was quiet, overly concerned and disgusted. I could do virtually nothing. Soft spoken in open settings, I prefer not to bring unwanted or negative attention to myself or others. But regardless of communication preferences, it's never appropriate for professionals to lack such obvious provision or basic hygenic standards or cleanliness. Additional amenities included with a cut and chemical service are scalp massage and hand/arm massage with Aveda oils; which were not given attention to either.
No one should anxiously anticipate a shower after an Aveda experience, but I did. I paid, left and did just that.
My experience is worthy of much less than 1 star.
I won't return to this salon or refer anyone. I'm also notifying Aveda. They should know who and what is representing them.
If you must have Aveda, avoid The James Campus Salon. I don't find their integrity or standards meet those of Aveda's. I've not experienced them yet myself, but I advise Aveda customers to consider one of the several other Aveda salons available in the area.

Business Response:

Wow! We are not even sure how to respond.... This salon is an Aveda Concept Salon and to help clarify what this means ~ we use and only carry AVEDA products! The concept is a student friendly environment with music and designers representative of the student body. The general public is welcome. Many people from outside the campus enjoy our student friendly pricing and the relaxed, casual college experience. If you are looking for a higher end salon please visit James SalonSpa where service and pricing reflects the experience perhaps this person was hoping to receive at a discounted price. We provide over 30,000 services a year at our salon locations. Unfortunately, occasionally we fail to satisfy 100% and for that we are constantly striving to better our service and tec hnical skills. We only wish that the 29,999 would share a positive review with us!

I bought my girlfriend a gift certificate to James Salon. She loved everything about it and she looks good. They did a good job. My only complaint is they cost alot, but if you need a gift for your girl the best salon, James is the place. They do such a good job, my girlfriend has already planned the next visit only a couple days after going there.

PROS: Service, Qaulity
CONS: cost a lot
