my cousin from quincy fell down a flight of stairs while visiting her mother in walpole mass. We called 911 in walpole and they responded within minutes. The EMT who checked my cousin out thought at that time she may have broke her ankle. This was confirmed at Norwood Hospital at or near 11:30 am . It was after this procedure which should have been simple by placing a cast on the injury did the time and endurance of any living creature become an ordeal. It wasn't untill 8:15 pm that she was able to flee their hold on her! To make a person endure this is just bad buisness. The whole ER needs some type of training which should include the fact that ,We are paying customers and that they work only because of us and for our benefit . NOT THEIRS OR THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY COHORTS !

Please protect and advocate for your elderly loved ones. I believe Caritas Norwood was more curse than cure for mine. She left with four new medications and a (undiagnosed) staph infection that caused joint damage. She was a normal, independent woman that was admitted for extreme, bizarre behavior. She was sent from the ER to the geriatric psych unit and labeled as late stage dementia. They seemed to think that rapid decline (within days) dementia is very common. They actually told us most of their patients rapidly went from normal to late stage and that there really was no underlying cause (WT*?). They seemed to have never heard of delirium. They did not listen to us at all and made light of her behavior as being cute. After 3 weeks in the hospital, we never heard from a doctor on her condition. One day before discharge a meeting was set up for us with an RN. ALL prior communication was from a social worker. We were never told what medications she was now taking unless we asked. Also, the patients are left in a room together all day with no stimulation, not even the blinds open. They are sitting in alarmed wheelchairs. Don't be afraid to look for answers: all elderly people do not have Alzheimer's. If you go here looking for help, you will only get medication.

this hosptail is only good in 1 department and it is the E.R. i had a a VERY BAD EXPIRENCE. the 3rd floor nursing are the most rudeesst non care people i have ever meet. one of my close relatives was in the hosptial for 1 week, the nursing mad her cry and did not care about her at all. the day she got discharged she had so many problems 1. a WRONG DOCTOR DICHARGED HER, she had a problem with her perscription, so she called the 3rd floor nurses station. (unit 32), they did not remeber her and didnt remember her being there, mind you this was lest than 7 hrs after she was discharged, later that night she was back in E.R for a problem the doctor new about wihile discharging her. this hosptial gave me the worst erxerience, i had to face dealing with professional care takers it was HORRIBLE.

This has always been my family's hospital of choice. My father had cancer of the lymph nodes, melanoma, and a heart attack. The fine doctors and nurses and technicians at Norwood Hospital always took good care of him. They patched him all up and sent him home to me as good as new. My father is 85 years old, and when I think of how many times they have healed him back up again and sent him home, I am so grateful. Growing up near this area, I occasionally went to this hospital too. Every doctor I had as a child was affiliated with this hospital. All of my own experiences with this hospital have been very favorable.

PROS: Best care you can get outside of Boston
CONS: They should drop the "Caritas" - gives a negative connotation

Caritas Norwood Hospital is a local hospital located just outside of Norwood Center. The emergency room is always packed and the nursing staff is overworked. I have made several trips with relatives to this hospitals ER and have had a very long frustrating experience each time.
