KMart is fading fast, and the Mattydale store is a good example of why this is happening. It baffles me as to why this company hasn't "gotten" the fact that in order to survive, they are going to have to do better in competing with the "big boys." WalMart is biting at their heels, and yet KMart persists in keeping their prices way to high for the quality they are offering.

I rarely go to KMart anymore, actually, but this store isn't far from where I live and work, and once in a while I will stop in for something when I am in the area. One Tuesday morning I stopped in to pick up a CD that was being released that day. I was planning on writing a review of the CD for a site that I write for.

I went back to the music department and looked to see if the CD had been put out for sale. It had not. I looked around for a clerk, and finally a woman arrived in the department. I told her what I was looking for and she said, "It ain't out yet." I asked her if she could find one for me and she signed and rolled her eyes at me. I offered to unpack the box myself to save her the trouble and she told me she wasn't supposed to put the CDs out. What? Anyway, she deigned to open the box for me and the CD I wanted was right on the top. I grabbed it before she could change her mind and went to pay for it.

This is not the way to run a business.

I remember when the first place we would head out to was KMart for anything!

Now, we rarely go there.

The clothing is very overpriced and quite low in quality. The inventory has shrunk considerably and there are just too many stores vying for our attention (and money) to bother with KMart these days.

Although they have a decent sale now and then, KMart isn't what it used to be. I find their regular prices to be higher than Wal-Mart and some drugstores for beauty supplies and other personal care products and their bedding/kitchen items, most my Martha Stewart, are just too expensive.

This is KMART, not JC Penney or another upscale department store yet the prices don't seem to reflect that any longer.

I avoid KMart most of the time and shop elsewhere now.

It used to be my favorite one stop shopping place, now, I barely give it a thought.

To add to this, their new non return policy is ridiculous! You can't return anything! I don't go for that and will be happy to take my business elsewhere.

PROS: It's open until 10 p.m.
CONS: Expensive,low quality clothing,dwindling inventory,ridiculous return policy
