Dr. Soble (Santa Maria CA office) was referred to me by my GP in late 2012 due to an elevated and rising PSA. Dr. Soble was methodical in his subsequent assessments and diagnosis, that identified that I had prostate cancer. He took the time to review all the options with both myself and my wife. He and his office were very caring and professional. I subsequently had surgery in December 2012. Dr Soble clearly explained what was expected and he performed the surgery in an excellent manner. The post-surgery follow-up and subsequent follow-up was and continues to be excellent. I highly recommend Dr Soble and we are all fortunate to have a doctor of his caliber on the CA Central Coast. He cares for his patients!

I have a rare kidney condition and was referred to Dr. Soble several years ago. I needed a complicated surgery that few people in my area (Chicago) were capable of doing. Dr. Soble did a great job of explaining everything to me-- why the surgery needed to be done, the risks of doing it (and not doing it), expected outcomes, the whole bit. He takes a lot of time with you to be sure that you understand everything. The surgery went fine, without any complications. However, the first time he saw me in the hospital after the surgery, I was miserable because the pain control was terrible (not because he hadn't written effective pain control orders, but because nursing wasn't following through with the orders). He was very concerned about that and worked with nursing to see that the problem was fixed right away. I found him to be very skilled, competent, and also very caring about his patients-- much more so than previous urologists who had provided care to me. One time, at a follow up visit in the office, I did have to wait a bit past my scheduled appointment time because he had an earlier patient with an emergency. I didn't mind. He gave me as much time as I needed when I was terribly sick, so I had no problem with him giving another patient that same kind of care and compassion.

I saw Dr. Soble on the recommendation of my primary doctor. In the past I had a rather negative experience with another urology practice in the area. This was definitely a change for the better.
Dr. Soble took the time I needed to review my xray studies with me, so I could better understand my condition and options, and then make a more informed choice about treatment.
The procedure went without a hitch.
Knowing what to expect made a tremendous difference in terms of my confidence and the success of the outcome.
I have no reservations about recommending this doctor to all friends and family.

I had to wait 45 minutes for a consultation, and then my appointment to have the surgery was cancelled twice. For the second appointment, I was given little to no advance notice it was cancelled. I called in a day before to see if I needed to fast for the surgery: I was then told the doctor would not be in the office--didn't I know? What? No one called me? For such a surgery it is necessary to psyche yourself up a bit; I find it disconcerting that I was given no notice.

Business Response:

The patient's comments are false. First, the patient was not abruptly cancelled. He failed to show up for his outpatient vasectomy on the first date scheduled - no phone call or notice given. We kindly rescheduled his procedure. Unfortunately, when a family emergency required my leaving town on short notice, the patient's procedure needed to be rescheduled. Messages were left repeatedly, but only answered the day before his procedure. The patient's lack of understanding, selfishness, and insensitivity to the needs of another human being (a doctor or any other) are duly noted.

My uncle is a widower with some early Alzheimer's-type memory problems and I am his main support for help with complex issues and tough decisions. That said, my uncle and I count our blessings (as should our whole community) that Dr. Soble is now practicing in our area.

What started out with my uncle passing some bloodclots, ended up being a complex combination of a kidney tumor, infection, prostate enlargement and stones. We were totally overwhelmed. But Dr. Soble took the time to go through everything with us, showing us the films and explaining all the options. With his help we could break down these problems, prioritize and tackle each one with understanding and confidence. That sort of trust is not easily gained by my uncle.

When it came time to treat the kidney cancer we were very fortunate that Dr. Soble is an expert at minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery. I did the research for my uncle, getting recommendations and opinions from the university experts and found that Dr. Soble was known and respected, either directly or by reputation, by all. He was trained by, and then went on to teach some of the best in the country.

Long story short, my uncle stayed right here for all his care and has done great. His surgery went without a hitch and he was home in less than two days. Fast recovery and cancer free. We couldn't ask for anything better. Thanks Dr. Soble.
