The Doctor was friendly and professional and my daughter now has 20/15 vision so he did an excellent job but we did not have a good overall experience. We were told to be there at 9am and expect to be there 3 to 3 1/2 hours. We arrived at 8:50 and did not go back for the actual surgery until around 2:30. Nobody gave an explanation or apologized for the 6 hour wait. Also my daughter is only 19 and was very nervous and we were told she would get an Ativan beforehand but it was never given. I would've asked but assumed that would give it to her at the appropriate time. Apparently my daughter has 'small eyes' and he told us it would be more uncomfortable for her right before he began the surgery and the clamps really hurt her which would've been a lot better had she been given something to calm her down. Also I bought 2 prescriptions that I was given beforehand and then was told not to use one of them and was given a medicine there. This was expensive and the pharmacy will not take it back so now I have some eyedrops that I paid for and will not use. Everyone was nice but there were many things that should've been done differently.

Business Response:

Nothing is more important to a mother (and to us) than achieving excellent vision after LASIK. It’s also gratifying to hear that a patient has a positive experience with the surgeon and staff. While an excessive wait time is less pleasant news, it’s valuable information that can help us improve on the quality of the experience for future patients. Yes, we can offer medical explanations for things like intraoperative discomfort, medication changes and reticence to medicate a patient--all of which we know can negatively impact a patient’s LASIK experience--but an apology and a pledge to provide future patients a better day at the LASIK center is probably the best response we can offer. You probably summed up the day perfectly with, “Everyone was nice but there were many things that should've been done differently.” We accept the challenge.

Doctor was on point and knew what he was doing...as far as the staff they gave my gf some miss information when she tried to set up the appointment, which almost delay my operation in first place... about my eyes having to be dialated before the surgery before that Friday morning...

Business Response:

Preparation for LASIK involves multiple steps, and we try to make sure we’ve covered the importance of each with every patient. One test that typically happens in the referring doctor’s office is called a cycloplegic refraction, which is sometimes referred to as a dilation, because it also includes pupillary dilation. A cycloplegic refraction helps to prevent over-correction of nearsighted patients, as well as under-correction of farsighted patients. We try to schedule that test for most patients while they’re at our office for their LASIK screening, but some prefer to handle it on their own. So many pieces of information are given out at the screening that it’s not unusual for us to have to make reminder calls to make sure the cycloplegic or dilation happens far enough prior to surgery day so that the patient can recover from the dilation prior to their LASIK surgery. In the unusual case that we simply fail to share that information, we owe the patient a huge apology.

Dr Woolfson was great, however, I would not let students (residents/interns) see and treat LASIK candidates and perform the testing/evaluations prior to surgery or after surgery. Customers are not paying thousands of dollars to be seen by students. Customers should be seen by MDs throughout the whole process.

Business Response:

Woolfson Eye Institute that takes the training of future eye professionals very seriously. We are very proud that schools all over the country entrust us with the training of their best and brightest. We believe that having the students in office enhances the experience for many patients. They are supervised by our Clinical Director, an optometrist who specializes in LASIK-related care, and all findings are presented to Dr. Woolfson for his review and final approval (or modification). However, we respect that the student teaching aspect is not for everyone. When patients occasionally ask to see one of our more seasoned providers, we are happy to accommodate the request. We thank you for a message that will serve as a reminder for us to make that option readily available.

Only criticism is: the receptionist who called to confirm my appointment this last time was very difficult to understand. I had to listen to the message 3 times before I knew what she was saying. Other than that...could not be happier with the service here!
