Five years ago I pulled my neck skiing and didn't giv e it much thought..little did I know that was actually a sign that I had alot of interesting stuff going on inside. When Dr Shane met with me and did the evaluation, he measured my range of motion for nearly every joint in my body. For the spots that were fairly lacking motion, he put more attention asking what was goiing on in those areas as well as what I had done in my past in those spots. It was neat to recall all the hard things I had done to this body but had forgot about. Next he took a couple pictures in the areas that bugged me the most - my neck - and low and behold I had almost no spacing between 3 of the vertebrae!

I really think my coming here probably saved or added some of the years onto my life that I would have lost because I was able to stop the eroding process and put attention on fixing it. Simply for that I give them 6 stars!

Now my boss now actually comes to the cafe because he and I would always nag and complain about our aches and pains, but when I wasn't in a bad mood or achey anymore, he asked if I was on drugs! Anyways this place has taken good care of me and I feel I owe them for introducing me to some positive change.

Pros: I really like the corrective approach & the front desk gals

Cons: the parking lot is a traffic jam @ lunch b/c Whole Foods

The Cafe of Life Chiropractors have helped me tremendously. I had twisted my back and had recurring pain for over 6 months. Pain relievers stopped working. I had never been to a chiropractor before. Dr. Shane even spoke to me one the phone about my questions and made an appointment for me for that day after work. He gave me useful information about the spine and helped me understand my injury. From twice a week to once every two weeks my back has improved greatly WITHOUT the use of pain relievers. I feel SO MUCH better, it's almost hard to believe. I'm so glad I went.??

Former patient. Got same treatment as everybody in the "bullpen" every time. Wasted a lot of time getting low back/hip twisted and snapped. Told them it made things worse, but couldn't stop them. Often had a different doc, sometimes never even saw their faces. Always had me laying face-down on a table when they approached. Mass production atmosphere. New chiro at a different place helped me a lot more; said I was NOT a candidate for the adjustment they were always giving me without asking (sometimes even when I told them not to!). Said I was too mobile and constant adjusting was making it unstable. Do other kinds of chiro now, feeling MUCH better. Also don't get sales calls any more either. That was annoying. The sales pitch and the delivery seem to be not related at all. They tell you all about YOUR problems, then you go and go, but your problems are never mentioned again, or your progress. You just keep getting the same "rack 'em and crack 'em" thing. One size does NOT fit all. The fact is, any chiropractic adjustment will wake up your nervous system and hopefully cause some improvement. BUT a little more specific treatment to each individual is needed. We are not all alike. They tried to get me to hang by my neck to change the curve of it. Real curve-fixing chiros (called CBP chiros) know this doesn't work and can do the real thing. They correct scoliosis, too, and have the x-rays to show. Just make sure they are fully certified, not just took one class and are faking it. Lots of faking of CBP methods out there. CBP=Chiropractic BioPhysics.

Pros: Any chiro treatment helps

Cons: But wrong treatment makes back/hip/neck issues worse

After reading both pros and cons from people's reviews I was skeptical of what I would find at the Cafe Of Life, however my neighbor who swears by them referred me in with a massage special. The first visit was overly thorough and took nearly a full hour to measure me up for what I thought they couldn't find. When I came back in for my review I was actually surprised that they had pinpointed my biggest concern that I had barely revealed and had a plan on how to fully handle it. Since this was news to me I started working with Cindie in November and have been very happy since.

Cons: 5pm rushhour

I am very impressed to say the least with my results at the Cafe of Life. I had participated in a health fair that they were at and received a special to come in to measure and evaluate where my body was. I am an athletic woman and did not realize that I couldn't fully turn my neck. This started to make sense to me since I also would get tension type headaches along my neck when I have a lot of clients (a common occurrance in dentistry), but I didn't think the two were related. After 2 months of care with Dr Sandy I have zero pain, almost full 'normal' range in my neck, more energy and I am actually taller.
My husband is a slow learner, but came in with me last month during a holiday promotion they were having. He doesn't ever go to the doctor when he is sick or in pain, however he actually wanted to see how I was able to get my body back in shape again. He joined up and has already had some good success with his care. Because of this, I am grateful because we don't want to get older and have to medicate ourselves to feel good.
I give a high recommendation!

Pros: I got exactly was I paid for: a pain-free, new (almost) body

Cons: Whole Foods parking lot is often chaotic

was drawn in with their 'free massage and consultation' offer. During the consultation, they said my back looked like a 60-year-old's, they told me that my bones would start fusing at any moment, and used other scare tactics to get me to sign up for their months-long treatment plan. I admitted that I had SLIGHT and OCCASIONAL neck and back pain, and they said they would do what they could to fix that. Unfortunately, I am a sucker, so I agreed to receive treatment from them.

I went in 1, 2, and 3 times a week for months because they told me that was the best treatment plan. I trusted them, they're in the profession of making people better, right? Not so much.

They told me that I should expect a little pain after each adjustment. I did have more than a little pain that didn't go away after a day, and heat/ice/stretching didn't make it better. Since their over-treatment plan was 2x/week for 3 months, that meant I was in fairly consistent pain for more than 90 days. Sometimes it was bad enough that I had to leave work. My chiro Dr. Cindy changed her techniques a little, and the pain dropped some, but not entirely.

After a month, simple things that never hurt before began to cause pain. I can't cross my legs at the knee now without it hurting my back. I can't sleep on my side (the way I've slept all my life) without waking up with tension. I quit the program weeks ago, and my neck still tenses up and hurts for no apparent reason (this never happened before). I still have back pain, and it seems to be worse now.

I feel broken.

I really don't think that they cared about me.

Please, don't let them do this to you.

i first heard of the cafe of life at a booth they had set up at one of the summer festivals in downtown boulder. the marketing staff at the booth were really friendly and nice and i figured it could be interesting to go into the office and speak with someone.

as soon as i got into the consultation room with the sales lady, i knew i had made a mistake. the entire time i was there...approximately an hour....it was a complete sales pitch and seemed like they were trying to find things wrong with me to sell me on. the sales person continued to pressure me into buying these "packages" or dr. visits, which were to be paid for up front.

after finally getting them off my back (literally!) and having the chance to get out of there, i knew that i would not be returning. afterwards, i was speaking with friends who had similar experiences and had even been roped into having visits there and it was a constant sales pitch. i was also amazed to find out that friends who had been there, their insurance had been charged quite a bit more than what would be a "normal and standard" charge for a chiropractic visit (upwards of $400/visit).

this place is shady and i do not trust their business practices whatsoever.

there are a TON of other (legit) chiropractors in town who do the same thing without the duplicity this place puts on. please pay attention to the other reviews and do not visit this place.

I work at a desk 50-60 hrs/wk in a high-stress firm. The Cafe of life care program I am on seems to erase most of the built up stress and problems that my work (and general neglect) have accumulated over the past 5+ years. I feel younger, ALOT more energetic, dont have my perpetual nagging low back aches from sitting all da, and best of all: I don't have ANY neck pain when I rock climb - this is increadible because I was told by a physical therapist I was seeing that I had to stop climbing because it was pinching the nerves and would always be like that! I have not felt a single ache climbing since I started my program.

I moved to Boulder a couple years ago and was in search of alternative health care. I never liked taking prescription meds, getting shots, or other forms of masking pain. I would rather fix problems for good. So after a friend of mine spoke so highly of this Boulder doctor I went to the Cafe.
I had multiple issues: low back pain, a slowly recovering bicep tendon tear, and a nagging knot in my back I had since college sports 7 years ago. I have been to many chiropractors before this was like no other. First you walk in to this nice studio (looks like Hapa Sushi decor) , only about a 1 min walk from Whole Foods (my work!) to be greeted by one of the wonderful hostesses (one of them is a little rough, but the others are sweethearts). The waiting room is not chairs with old magazines, but its a lounge space with relaxing music ...and massage chairs!! Then to the massage, I worked with a therapist before seeing the doc who worked out some knots and adhesions in the muscles with some very deep tissue work...amazing.
Finally, Dr. Sandy came in and performed some of his muscle/tendon work? which come to find out was able to alleviate the sports injury from years ago after only a few sessions (I had physical therapy and probably at least at least 30 deep tissue massages to try to correct this before with no success).
Having used to be a serious athlete I have been to a lot of chiropractors for regular maintenance and alignment so I know a good adjustment. Dr. Sandy is an expert at adjusting. He is very well trained and is so specific with his adjustments that you only feel the adjustments where you should be feeling it (if you are lucky enough to have been to a good chiropractor you know how important this is). He is good at his craft which includes more than just chiropractic. I also have a friend who just started a scoliosis treatment program at the Cafe and has seen impressive results, a wonderful alternative to the crazy scoliosis surgery and metal rod she was contemplating.
I would highly recommend the Cafe to anyone seeking permanent relief from pain.

I can honestly say after having worked at the Cafe of Life for a considerable amount of time, that unfortunately, these negative reviews are accurate. They are extremely aggressive in trying to get new patients in the door, but only if you are considered "Q" - which means qualified, i.e., you better have good insurance or the money to pay for their long term care plans. But don't worry, maybe you have good credit and they can set up a capital one account so you can pay for it. Otherwise, they are just not interested in helping you. Maybe they have approached you on the street when they offer you their "Public Gift Certificates" which they say they only give out a certain number of - right, they have piles of them, but only for "Q" people, if you don't look "Q", they won't offer it to you. They also run a health fair company so they can get in the door of some of Boulder's premier companies (with good insurance of course). They are one of the vendors which puts them in front of all of the employees that they can do spinal screenings on or massages in an effort to get them in for a free evaluation. They also get in the door to various companies by offering free massage to employees, this is also just to get new patients in the door. I have to hand it to them, their creativity in getting new business is admirable, however they are definitely bereft of any integrity. They really treat their employees poorly and their constant turnover proves it - you don't see the same set of faces for very long and they will be dishonest as I have witnessed first hand in order to get what they want. If this is the kind of atmosphere you want in a "health and wellness center" perhaps this is the place for you, but I would strongly urge you to consider using one of the many other reputable chiropractic offices in Boulder who doesn't have such a negative reputation. Funny, most of the positive reviews written here are by the owner's and doctors there - what does that tell you?

This place was very nice, but I never felt like they really cared about my health. They were very aggressive for a chiropractor. Didn't really care for these people at all - I will not go there again.

I found the Cafe of Life when they had just moved to the Whole Foods retail park a year and a half ago. Originally I didn't sign up to do any care because I didn't think I needed it, but a couple months later in February I decided to check it out since they had done an overly thorough job evaluating my back with lots of high tech tests and measurements, much more detailed of an evaluation than any physical I had from my doctor. Glad I went in as I am a totally different person physically now.
Since then I have found it my place to go to get my body back in line and feeling good again..it actually recharges my body so that I don't have headaches...EVER anymore and I don't get sick as often (only twice in the past 2 years now).
Oh, when I go I LOVE the massage before my adjustments...something that makes me forget the stress that grows on me throughout the week. Kudos for adding that to the program!

Very HIGH preasure sales tactics - about double the price of comprable services in town.
I cannot reccommend this practice.

I have not had a migraine in a year! No more TMJ. My daughter has also been able to see improvements and husband, too! Happy Family! ---J.Knight. After 2 month of Cafe of Life, I can turn my back and feel nearly pain free. I am really amazed at how quickly improvements came, especially since I experienced the back pain for a full year before seeing Dr. Cindie. I'm hooked and eager to maintain a healthy spine. --L.Lee. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Dr. Sandy takes special care for my concerns and doesn't hesitate to spend the extra time to assist or educate. --M.Guarino. I am deeply impressed with the attentiveness of the doctors. The extra tips and advice on how to treat spine/back during my daily work and life have been extremely helpful & greatly appreciated! Overall wellness has improved with regular adjustments. With gratitude Always! --K.Cookson. I love coming to the Cafe! My boys and I are always warmly welcomed. Even though we live in Longmont, it's worth the drive to come to the Cafe of Life to get the kinks out. Keep up the great work! --D.Sedegan. Woo-Hoo!!! I feel alive again thanks to you guys!! --Z.Papcundua. When I first started coming there'd be days I couldn't even walk. Let alone sleep. Whenever I'd hike a 14er, I'd take days or even weeks to recover. After my corrective care, I'll do three sometimes four in a week! My hockey has improved and my sleep is 100% now. --J.Lemaster. My experience at Cafe of Life has been wonderful. I am almost at the end of my initial care plan and am planning on continuing my treatment on a preventative basis. I feel like I have made great improvement in my overall health and well-being. Coming to my appointment is one of my favorite activities. --J.Wallace.

Pros: Excellent care, Love all the staff, Get great Results!

I've been one of the treating doctors at Cafe of Life for 6 months. I feel the care given by all of the doctors here is excellent.

I do understand that people feel our sales techniques are 'high pressure' and we don't accept patients that only want a single 'tune up'. But our goal is CORRECTIVE CARE. This takes time and a great commitment. I've been practicing for almost 9 years and it works - period. Often times people look at their horrible x-rays and put their wallet before their health. In these cases they should head to The Joint if they only want 1 or 2 treatments.

I recommend care plans that will fix the problem, not just get you out of pain so you can go hurt yourself again. At the end of the day I want to feel as if I did everything possible to get you to recognize how much your body needs care. So call it 'high-pressure sales' or call it a genuine interest to teach you how important your spine is to your over-all health.

Some people just aren't ready to accept that. They get angry that I won't waiver on my 1-year plans. They get angry that their spine looks so bad. They want to hear there is a magic pill that will fix it all. There isn't. There is only hard-work, dedication, and knowledge.

I refuse to apologize for insisting that my patients have as much dedication to their care as I do.

I walked in there because I got a "free" analysis from a salesman that was at Boulder One fitness. These people really know their stuff... about sales that is. They are very good at selling you on the magical benefit of adjustments to the spine (they have a chart that lists just about anything that could go wrong with the body or mind, and which vertebrae can be adjusted to fix this problem.) First off, they told me my adjustments would be quick and painless. This was true. But how quick they were! I was essentially paying $50 a visit for the chiropractor to pop three of my joints. The pre-adjustment massage was quick pleasant I must say, but it didn't seem like the adjustment was very specific to the problem I was having. On to the really annoying part: their sales pitch. I was told each time I walked out of that place that I looked taller. The first person that told me was actually a good actor and I believed her, but there were a few people at the front desk that seemed like they had been forced into saying it. On top of this, I called and cancelled all of my future appointments because I was done with them, and they still charged my checking account the next month! I called and asked for the financial department and when I explained to this person what was happening he put me on hold and transfered me back to the original sales person that duped me in the first place!!! After talking with them for 20 minutes and having them explain why an osteopath is not as qualified as a chiropractor to fix my back, they agreed that I could come in and cancel my membership face-to-face. God am I dreading going in there. I know why they want me to do this face-to-face and I know it's going to be ugly.

Pros: Good pre-adjustment massage.

Cons: Completely high-pressure sales oriented and un-willing to reason with modern science.

The people here are very nice, the atmosphere really cool, then I walked into the little room with the nice lady who began to tell me about all of my "problems". I am pretty healthy and don't feel bad at all and did not care for the ominous forecast about my health. Then she mentioned that I should take advantage of my great insurance, that was it for me. I just moved to the area and was with my former chiropractor for many years and I don't recall this type of sales pitch initially. I did eventually find a chiropractor who seemed a little more interested in my specific issues and not what kind of insurance I carried. This may be a better fit for someone with some serious issues that needs a lot of chiropractic, because thats exactly what they want you to sign up for. I just didn't leave this place with a good feeling about it at all.

Cons: Too much emphasis to get you to sign up long term

I was initially taken back by the Cafe's attitude of 'Outrageous Health' until I experienced what they serve. I will say this: I recently stopping taking pain medications because of the care I have received from Dr. Craig...for me that was Priceless. Now I can play with my kids, actually run again and I don't have to complain to my friends and family that my back aches.

The Cafe does appear to only work with those who are committed to making change in their lives, rather than those looking for what they call a 'quick patch'. Now I know that I have really changed my body, rather than the patch work I had done in other chiropractor offices over the years. Overall, huge kudos for the Cafe people and all their skilled staff.

Pros: Hip scene, good music, skilled care

I would say that my whole experience with this office was one of disbelief. From the requirement that you prepay, to the hard sell to get you to sign on as a patient. I appreciated that they are running a business (and seem to be doing a good job of making money), but the medical professionalism just isn't there.
