Dr. Fusner was highly recommended to us. My daughter was in another practice, and when my son was born, we jumped at the chance to join the practice (they only accept newborns) and my daughter who was 3 was also accepted. When we go for a visit or checkup, Dr. Fusner always spends enough time with us and never feels rushed or hurried. She is friendly, compassionate and easy to relate with. We always look forward to the kids' yearly checkups to catch up with her and share about each other's families. She has see my son grow from baby to 10 years, and my daughter from 3 to 12.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr Fusner, Nancy Hoover, and their staff. I have already recommended Dr Fusner to friends who have had babies recently, & will continue to do so (I think they may accept newborns even when they aren't otherwise accepting new patients). It's a bit of a trek for us to get up to Kensington, but it is definitely worth the trip. Nancy Hoover helped us a great deal when our son was preemie/low weight. Dr. Fusner has been extremely responsive to my phone calls, and was available for consults even when we were living overseas for 5 months. With regard to some of the comments about Dr Fusner being "cold," I would have to say that she does have a certain shyness about her, and perhaps that was misinterpreted by some parents as coldness. Dr Fusner has shown herself to be completely focused on our child's well-being & our peace of mind as parents. Regarding the front office staff, I am completely baffled by the negative comments and can't imagine to whom they are referring... The front office staff has always been cordial & helpful whether we have been in the office or calling from either 10 or 10,000 miles away.

Dr. Fusner continues to be the best pediatrician we have known. She is quiet and somewhat introverted; some people (like these reviewers) may misinterpret that as coldness or rudeness. She takes parents' concerns seriously and advises on alternative treatments. But she will probably calmly and respectfully try to clear up any misconceptions you may have about things like vaccines or OTC meds. (I'm not sure what she says to parents who are clearly delusional about such things.) Nor has she ever prescribed for us flower remedies, crystal healing, or therapeutic touch. So while she is open to alternative remedies, and will advise on such things, she is an MD.

Dr. Fusner and her colleagues have always been very responsive, and we can call any hour of day or night. She has never taken more than 10 minutes to return a call, even at 2AM.

I have recently heard that she is not accepting new patients, and I'm sad that I therefore can't recommend her to my friends who are new parents.

It can be stressful finding a pediatrician you trust. But Dr Fusner's shouldn't be criticized because her practice is so popular that it's overfilled.

I am surprised that Dr Fusner has so many gleaming reviews. We have never enjoyed visiting her office because she is cold and uninviting. To be honest I have come to suspect that she really does not even like children. My daughter is 2 years old and we have been seeing her since her birth. I kept hoping that she would warm up and become "human" at least but the chill endures and she doesnt even treat us like people. And she pretends to have an interest in Natural healing but she is very uninformed about it and I have yet to hear her recommend anything beyond antibiotics and tylenol for babies & children (even though they both severely weaken the young immune system and should only be used when absolutely necessary). She is the least favorite doctor I have visited in a long time and would not recommend her. Dr Nancy Hoover is better and more knowledgable for sure.

We also love love love Dr. Fusner and Nancy Hoover and have made the looooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg drive to see them (and special trips when we lived overseas) because we appreciate their calm, say it like it is philosophy which was particularly helpful when our daughter had some very serious medical issues when she was 10 months old. Unlike all the arrogant and overtrained specialists we saw at CNMC, Dr. Fusner reassured us that we would figure things out and get our daughter whatever she needed. Unfortunately, I have to wholeheartedly agree with many of the other reviewers that the front office staff - with one notable exception a few years back - are less than optimal, are often very rude and almost seem irritated that you call not to mention almost act like temporary help (never know the doctor's schedule or how to get in touch). If the front office staff better reflected the quality and compassion of Dr.Fusner and Nancy Hoover, it would be the best pediatrician experience in DC.

I love Dr. Fusner. She's definitely busy, so you have to make sure you get everything in that you want to discuss at an appt, but she listens and she really does care. I have never had a long wait for an appt and she has seen my son a few times on short notice when he was sick, and was always very gracious about it. She does have a little bit of a natural medicine bend, but I like that. Not to imply that she pushes it or uses it in place of appropriate medicines - she just gives options, which I really appreciate. Nancy Hoover is great too, and the nursing staff has never been anything but pleasant to us. We now live in VA and are expecting #2 and I don't know if I can bring myself to switch even though the drive can be a pain, she is so great!

I called a few weeks back and they are not taking new patients. In fact, the woman who answered the phone was a bit rude about it... don't bother calling.

We've been going to Dr. Fusner's since before she started this solo practice. All three of our kids have received excellent care from her and Nancy Hoover, and I wish my general practitioner were as good as she is! The one negative reviewer clearly had a bad experience, but it is the exception to the rule. Also, to clarify, I think she DOES take new patients if they are newborns.

I am still shaking just thinking about what happened today in Dr. Fusner's office. Basically, one of the staff members made an appt for my daughter (who would be a new patient) over 1 month ago, but they are not accepting new patients, which I found out when I arrived at the appt. When I arrived, they told me that they couldn't find her chart and then asked me if I have ever been there. I said no and they said 'oh, you are the mystery patient.' They proceeded to explain to me that they are not accepting new patients, but since I am here, they will see if the doctor will see my daughter. Lucky for me, the doctor said that she would see my daughter. After 45 minutes of waiting, my daughter was called. The nurse who took my daughter's weight, etc, was extremely nice. However, when Dr. Fusner came in, she immediately began with - so I think you know that we are not accepting new patients, but since you are here, I will see you. Then she asked me if I just moved to the area because why would I need a new pediatrician, doesn't my daughter already have a pediatrician. I answered her saying that we did just move here about 1 year ago and I had a pediatrician for my daughter but I wasn't satisfied with her. She said 'WELL I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE SATISFIED HERE EITHER.' Then she began asking me about my daughter and why we were there today. I was in awe of what I had just heard. I responded with 'Wait, why don't you think we will be satisfied here?' And she said that they are not accepting new patients and explained that situation in detail. And then she said that she is double and triple booking all of her appointments and that she can only spend about 10 minutes with her patients. Plus, she said, my daughter and I live TOO FAR AWAY, why would we want to go there, it is TOO INCONVENIENT for us!!! That is when I had enough ?? I told her that it is not my fault that someone made an appt for my daughter when you weren't accepting new patients; that if she didn't want to see us, she should have told us from the beginning rather than make us wait not only a month but an additional 45 minutes in the waiting room after you were told we were here; that when I found her on my insurance website, the website says that she is accepting new patients; and that it doesn't seem like she wants to see us nor will she give her entire effort in seeing and treating my daughter, so I no longer wanted to be there and that I wanted my money back. She apologized and said that I could get my money back and she let me walk out the door. I went to the front desk and she told the people at the front desk to refund me the copay I paid. Not one of the people at the front desk acknowledged nor apologized for the situation, and not one person in that office acknowledged what I lost in all of this. For some reason, everyone there looked at ME and MY DAUGHTER as the guilty party, when we were just trying to see a pediatrician for an annual checkup.

Our family loves Dr. Fusner. She is kind, thoughtful, meticulous, and she truly listens to her patients and their parents. He staff is wonderful, we especially love Sarah (one of her technicians). We trust her to call us back immediately in case of emergencies, and she always gives calm and helpful advice. She has talked us through everything from childhood vaccines to emergency room visits to schooling choices. We have never had such a great doctor!!

She is responsive; detailed in her record-keeping, and incredibly thoughtful about integrating cutting edge and traditional medical knowledge. I cannot recommend her more highly.

Dr Fusner and Nancy Hoover are the best health care practitioners we have ever met. They are prompt, clear, direct and have a very honest and respectful of the children, speaking directly to them in a kind and authentic way (not fakey baby talk the way some adults talk to children). They create a safe and supportive environement and made my children feel respected even when talking about difficult issues. they always call back immediately off hours with supportive, good advice. I have been going there for 10 years, can always get a convenient appointment, have hardly ever had to wait more than a few minutes, and have never felt that the staff are "rushed". Also, they have an open-minded approach. They are great for everday well child care, but have excelled at dealing with more difficult medical situations as well, and believe me - when it REALLY MATTERS, having a pediatrician you trust and who ALREADY KNOWS YOUR CHILD is an incredibly re-assuring experience.

Dr Fusner is outstanding. She has very quickly called us back, even in the middle of the night, when our child was sick and we were freaking out. She listens to parents' concerns, and supports alternative approaches. We are very happy to have her caring for our child. I have always found her staff to be friendly and helpful.

Dr. Fusner is a brilliant peds physician with a caring attitude that surpasses the call of duty. However, her staff is often snippy and unhelpful. If I could transplant the doctor into a more pleasant and helpful environment, I would give her 5 stars. But, because I can't, it is only a 4-star rating.
