Dr. Roane was my first OB-GYN, and I found her polite and friendly during my exams. About a year after I started going to her for my annual exams, I began having heavy periods. I would mention this to her, and her solution was to change my birth control medication. I would continue to have heavy periods that got progressively worse, and every time I saw Dr. Roane, she would either prescribe a new birth control medication or recommend I do a 3-month continuous therapy. Never during all this time did she perform any tests to see if there was something wrong that would cause these immensely heavy periods.

Stupidly, I kept going back to her time after time for 5 years, expressing my concerns over my ever-worsening cycle. It got to the point that I would have to miss work every month, and I was always on the point of passing out from the extreme blood loss. My significant other finally put his foot down and encouraged me to get a 2nd opinion. My new doctor listened to my concerns, immediately ordered tests, and found that I had a sizable fibroid tumor that was causing these problems. Had they found it sooner, I could have had it removed without surgery, but unfortunately, I had waited too long to seek a 2nd opinion. My only option was to have a laproscopic procedure.

And all this could have been avoided if she would have believed me and performed appropriate tests... I gave her 5 years to figure it out. Changing birth control isn't always the answer.

I've been a patient of Dr. Roane's for about 15 yrs now. She delivered my youngest, who happened to be a 'problem' pregnancy with serious illness- on my part- involved. She was very caring and attentive to my worries - and my health, of course - and was also very accommodating when my two young children (then aged 6 and 4) had to accompany me to appointments. She has even kept- for all these years- a picture drawn for her by my daughter at that time.
Over the years, I've had various- mostly minor- issues, and Dr. Roane has never changed as far as her true commitment and caring for her patients. She ALWAYS takes time to actually listen, and is NOT one of those doctors who think they are a god who knows all. Though she stays current on new techniques and such, she has no problem admitting when she is uncertain about something, and will find the info or refer me to another doctor.
Though she is very careful and concerned about patients' privacy, she is also very welcoming to family or friends that a patient wants included or present.
I could go on and on about how very pleased I have always been by Dr Roane and her always-friendly staff.
I simply cannot say enough about how highly I would recommend her to anyone. I wouldn't want my daughter seeing any other gyn.
*Every once in a while, because babies don't care about schedules, wait times can be a bit long. It isn't often, and if they realize the schedule will be upset by something unforeseen, they will try to call and offer a different appointment time.

Cons: Wait times can be a bit long, but not often.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS about Dr. Roane. She has years of experience, she listens to your needs, and she is very professional in everything that she does. She is friendly and a very hard worker and that is only part of what makes her such a good doctor.
I have seen other reviews where people have complained about the wait time so I want to address that first. First of all, what Dr.'s office have you been to where you don't have to wait for service. If you have been to one please let me know! And if there is no wait, then I wonder why??? Maybe that doctor is not as good and that is the reason they don't have many patients and you don't have to wait. Secondly, people need to respect the fact that they are not the only patient that Dr. Roane provides medical care for and if the wait is long, it is not her fault because she probably had an emergency with another patient or was coming from seeing a patient at the hospital. Everyone these days seems to have this "I want it and I want it now" mentality and it needs to stop!
Another review that I want to address is a complaint about the office staff not being on point. Stop giving them a hard way to go! They do the best job that they can and everyone gets backed up every once in a while. They are humans too and everyone makes mistakes. People need to respect their feelings too.
Lastly, I have noticed some complaints about their phone system. I asked about that myself when I went to visit. They previously had a phone system where they would miss a whole lot of calls because they couldn't get every single call. So in an effort to be more efficient, they switched to a phone system that could handle such a high call volume. This allows them to answer the phone when they aren't busy with helping another patient but also allows them not miss anything when they aren't able to get to the phone right away so that way nothing important is missed or looked over. They usually get back to you within the day or the next business day with the exeption of weekends, holidays, and staff vacations (which is expected at any institution that you call). People are making a mountain out of a molehill about everything in these reviews and it is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY!
I RECOMMEND DR. ROANE TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS A GYNECOLOGIST!!!!!!! : )

Pros: clean facilities, friendly staff, great doctor

.

Karen Roane is a fantastic doctor, and is very professional. Each time I have been for a visit I am in and out within 15 min. There are two offices one in Raleigh and one in Garner which is very convenient. Both offices are very well kept and clean which to me is a plus.

Pros: nice staff, quiet waiting room(relaxing)

.

The first visit I had with Dr. Roane was great. She was very friendly, as is her staff. I had to have a procedure done and then had an office visit with her for results. I found her to be curt and abrupt. I have had to put my life on hold one day waiting for a staff member to return my call. Very frustrating and inconsiderate on their part.
I thought I had found a wonderful GYN, but I am now rethinking this cholice.

Pros: Nice to have a female ob/gyn physician

.

I saw Dr. Roane for the first time today in her Brier Creek office. The office and nursing staff members were all great, and Dr. Roane herself was terrific. Everyone was very friendly and down to earth, and they all obviously care alot about their patients. We chatted through the whole examination and it was over in what felt like 30 seconds. She explained every procedure as she performed it, and was both quick and thorough. Even as a new patient having to fill out paperwork, I was in and out of her office within an hour, and probably only spent 5 minutes in the gown (which I greatly appreciated). All in all, I had a painless and unexpectedly comfortable visit, and I don't think I'll be switching doctors again anytime soon!

I didn't have a good experience at Dr. Roane's Garner office today, so I ended up walking out without even seeing the doctor. First of all, this morning I had called to verify my appt time and get directions. The first person I talked to couldn't help me, so I was transferred to someone else who was very nasty to me. I arrived 45 minutes early because I wasn't quite sure where I was going, and presented my insurance card to the receptionist. I was then told I'd have to pay 20% of the bill up front at the end of the visit. That's not how my insurance works, so I tried to explain to them how my insurance works. The receptionist still insisted I pay 20% up front, so I asked if she would please call and verify benefits with my insurance company. She didn't want to, so I kept insisting what she was telling me is wrong. She then went to talk to someone else (not sure who) and then she came back and said firmly that I would have to pay 20% up front. Since this isn't the way my insurance works and I was facing a possible hefty bill, I had no other choice but to leave without seeing the doctor. On my way home I called insurance and they said I shouldn't have to pay anything, that I get a yearly women's wellness visit that is 100% covered. So I called Dr. Roane's office back to tell them this and plead with them to verify insurance so that I could come back or reschedule my appt (I still had time to actually go back and make my appt). They just took a message, they wouldn't do it. I never had this happen to me before at a doctors office; all doctors I see verify benefits or if they are confused about my benefits, they will take the time to call insurance to get the matter cleared up. It seems all Dr. Roane's office cared about is money, not the patient.

Cons: Parking, Office was pretty

I have been going to Dr. Roane for a few years now and really like her. I have recommended her to many of my friends. I have had to wait on occasion but everyone was always been apologetic even if it is a short wait (and honestly when do you not have to wait in a doctor's office). The last time I went in there was some confusion with my insurance and the receptionist patiently waited on hold and dealt with the insurance's poor customer service for me. Which I was very thankful for!
Every visit has always been pleasant, she has worked with me to find the best B.C. for me. She is always patient to hear any concerns I might be having. Also, her staff is very competent and helpful.
I would recommend Dr. Roane. And their new office in Brier Creek is very nice and convenient.

On my first visit with Dr. Roane, she breezed into the examination room and told me ?I glanced briefly at your chart ? you just need a routine exam, right?? I replied, ?I do need that, but I am also trying to get pregnant.?

She then performed a clumsy and rushed exam, during which she snarled at me to ?Relax!? She rushed through everything and prescribed me fertility meds ? when I tried to asked her whether some current meds I was taking would be a problem if I got pregnant, she replied, ?We?ll deal with that when you get pregnant.?

I foolishly gave her a second chance, but asked my husband to come with me and intervene if the doctor treated me as rudely as she had the first time.

Even though I just wanted a lab test to see if I was pregnant, her staff told me to get undressed for a physical exam. I was left undressed for 1 hour and 15 minutes. When Dr. Roane finally saw me, she announced she was not going to perform a physical exam. I said, ?Then why have I been lying here undressed for over an hour?!?? She replied ? ?Well, _I_ don?t know!?

When my husband then intervened to ask her to treat me more politely, she treated him extremely rudely as well.

End result ? I left the doctor?s office, WITHOUT the test I wanted, sobbing hysterically from the way I was treated, and had repeated panic attacks in the parking lot. My husband had to wait inside to get a refund of our co-pay. Dr. Roane?s staff apologized to him about 20 times for what had happened, and hinted it was extremely common for women to leave Dr. Roane?s office sobbing hysterically.

I will be writing the medical board about the way Dr. Roane treated me, to try to prevent any other women being treated so badly.

I have since found a much better gynecologist, both kind and competent, who treats both me and my husband with respect as well as taking the time to answer all our questions - instead of throwing fertility medicine at me without answering important questions.

I have been going to Dr. Roane's office for 2 years now after referral through my health insurance. I am very happy with her office as a whole. The only part I really don't like is the voicemail system. It is very hard to get to talk to anyone. The billing dept. has never returned one of my calls. Aside from that, Dr. Roane's office has been great. The staff is very warm & friendly. I have never waited more than 15 minutes for my appointment. Dr. Roane is totally on top of her game. I had an in-office procedure done after discussion with her. Prior to that she had given me a wealth of info for research about what we had discussed so that I could look into it further. She made sure I was well informed about my choices and about the procedure I chose. As both a patient and an RN, I was quite impressed with her. She never rushed through a visit, dismissed a question, or spoke in a condescending manner (she didn't know I was an RN when I started seeing her) My lab results were promptly relayed to me. Her staff was just as receptive and caring. I wish I had had such a thorough OB/GYN when I had my children. Dr. Roane's office in White Oak in Garner is beautiful and I'm sure her new Brier Creek office opening in March will be just as nice. I used to dread going to the OB/GYN, but Dr. Roane has made it a much more pleasant experience.

Dr. Roane always made me feel like my concerns were important to her and never rushed me out of the office. She discussed the latest research related to my problem and even gave me contact information in case I wanted to get in on a study. I haven't been to either of her offices since she moved because I've had to change docs due to insurance reasons, but I miss her terribly!

I have had excellent care from Dr. Roane and her staff for three years now. Are the waits long? Sometimes when she has an emergency procedure, but I typically get in and out of her office faster than I have with previous OB/GYNs. She has done minor surgery on me, and was remarkably thorough in the diagnostic testing leading up to it. Each appointment, she takes time with you to really talk about your health and any issues you may be having. Best of all, she does not condescend, but rather treats you as an equal. My husband was impressed that after my surgery, she came out and sat beside him in the waiting room and went over the procedures carefully. He had observed all the other docs coming out and being much more glib with the waiting relatives.
In addition, her nurse, Vi, is the kindest woman on the planet. I have recommended two friends to Dr. Roane's office and they love it as well.
The new office in Garner is lovely, although I'm closer to Cary. The new receptionist in Garner is very efficient and kind.

I have been a patient of Dr. Roane's for years and I have become very disappointed in the way patients are treated. I received a call reminding me of my appointment for Monday and the call never mentioned Dr. Roane moved. I called and called the office and finally overrode the voice mail system by constantly pressing 0. I received no card telling me the office was moved and also the voice mail system that Dr. Roane's office has is terrible. I told the receptionist when I see Dr. Roane today I will tell her what I think of the office staff and how the voice mail is taken care of. If you are looking for a short wait and for phone calls to be returned, do not go to Dr. Roane. You will be waiting half a day at least and then the office staff is always unorganized.

I made a new patient appointment and the receptionist failed to tell me the office had moved. When I got to the old office it was empty. I called my husband and he searched online but couldn't find new address. I called the office several times but nobody answered. I drove to a new medical office park and walked into every building until I luckily found the office. The phone was literally off the hook. I waited over 2 hours (2 1/2 hours total visit) for less than 10 minutes of meeting with Dr., less than 5 for bloodwork. 3 1/2 weeks later I still have no lab results. I have called several times, left messages. They almost never answer, will not call back. I find it amazing that a doctor's office like this can still be in business. I've paid for lab work but CANNOT get the results.

Cons: VERY long wait, No lab results, don't take calls

.

Went and waited 1 hour and had to re-schedule. Re-scheduled for the 1st appointment of the day to wait 50 minutes and I NEVER got my results. HORRIBLE experience.

I feel very comfortable with Dr. Roane and her staff - I've always been to a male gyn so I was a bit hesitant to change, but after my initial exam 3 1/2 years ago, I'm staying. Dr. Roane is open about what's happening and what options are available, and the location in Cary is ideal for me. When I did have a questionable pap smear, she was able to get me in for a biopsy within the week - it was done at the office and she explained everything she did so I felt informed of what was happening with my body. I recommend her. If I wait a few extra minutes before being seen, I don't mind - my appointments are late in the afternoon.

Pros: female doctor, great staff, good communications

Make sure you take at least half the day off. I have waited 1.5 hours to see Dr. Roane and I am still waiting for results of testing that was done 2 weeks ago. I used to love going to her, but now it appears $ is more important than the patient.
