Karen Peabody who practices in Brockton at Westside Behavioral Health is the worse counselor I have ever been to! As a veteran of counseling services, I have seen male and female counselors, psychologists, mental health clinicians, and social workers. I went to see her with my husband because his father suffered a tragic accident years ago, leaving the father nearly comatose for all my husbands childhood. He never sought counseling for it and obviously he is still upset about it. I went with him to counseling for support. He didn't think counseling would help, but I thought it would because good counselors have greatly helped me. So, with my encouragement, he agreed to give it a try. Well, when Karen the counselor asked him about the situation with his father, he got upset and tried very hard to hold back his tears. His eyes welled up and a few small tears fell. Karen was very cold and unresponsive to his emotional pain and the expression of it, and she didn't even offer him a box of tissues or an ounce of sympathy. She later asked him if it was hard for him to talk about... I was shocked. Of course it is hard for him to talk about, he's crying!!! A 10 year old could clearly see that it is extremely hard for him to talk about, yet a trained, licensed counselor couldn't?!?! It is a great and deep source of pain. He can't even talk about it at home without crying because of the loss his family experienced is so great and the following unfortunate circumstances that followed the accident. Then Karen singled my husband out and and had the nerve to ask him if he knew that he "looked terrible." My husband works 50+ hours a week, and was just crying, as well as having a physical illness. I can't believe she said he looked terrible. If you want a good counselor who won't insult you at your most vulnerable point and who is professional and caring, then DEFINITELY do not go see Karen Peabody. She is degrading to her clients and lacks empathy, compassion, and in my opinion the intelligence required to be an effective counselor. Both my husband and I agreed we left feeling much worse than we did coming in. Her comments bothered my husband greatly and now he doesn't want to go back to see a counselor because he doesn't want to get insulted again. Karen Peabody should not be a counselor. She should find another profession where people's feelings will not be damaged by her ignorance and lack of sympathy/empathy.
