Dr. Katherine Brown has been our family physician since 2001. Her practice at the Polyclinic has grown significantly since we first started seeing her and the Polyclinic recently opened a new, updated location.

Having worked in hospital administration for many years, I notice that the office is highly organized, staff follow best practices as recommended by leading Health-care Management Organizations such as patient identification and hand hygiene. Overall, I would rate the Polyclinic very highly as her staff are very professional and efficient.

I find Dr. Brown to generally be very straightforward, practical and wise. Unlike some MDs I have seen in the past that have been in practice for a long time, she stays up on recent scientific advances relevant to her practice and can transmit her knowledge to the layperson.

We have children of similar ages and she has given me advice on everything from hip children's literature to sports. Her directive that my son get a recommended level of physical activity had a direct effect on my son's motivation to pursue physical fitness.

In sum, I plan on keeping Dr. Brown as my family physician for as long as I remain in the Seattle area.

I had a so-so experience with Dr. Brown. I found her on the Puget Sound Checkbook's list of physicians recommended by other physicians. I saw her for just a routine physical. She was very competant and professional... but there was just something about her that bothered me. I struggle with my weight, and when I asked for some recommendations and wanted to talk about my goals, I felt like Dr. Brown laughed at me. She told me to lose 10% of my body weight and keep it off for a year, and then she would consider talking to me about any bigger goals. I felt like she didn't believe I could succeed. On the one hand, I was put off, disappointed, and upset afterwards. On the other hand, she did make me think realistically. Even though she didn't tell me what I wanted to hear and her "bedside manner" maybe wasn't what I wanted to hoped for as a patient, she did make me think and perhaps it was what I "needed" as a patient.
