My family and myself personally were clients of Dr. Kay for over 25 years. He's taken care of a grand total of 3 cats and a dog for my family, and 3 cats for me personally.

In my opinion, he's like the Dr. House of the Veterinary profession, without the cane and the sarcasm. I used to bring my cats 2 1/2 hours just for shots every year until I moved too far away to use him.

I used to call him the cat whisperer. I have an Abyssnian mix that's a VERY nervous cat and pretty much hates everyone. Before I had a chance to warn him about her being an escape artist and a general pain, he'd already examined her and given her the shots.

Just to watch him work is amazing. He speaks the language of an animal. Cornell can't teach you that. That comes from years of watching and learning, and having the patience to do so.

There are no hours for him. He does his surgeries primarily on the weekends so he can take his

Dr. Kay is the benchmark to every vet I've had since. There is no other Dr. Kay. That's all that needs to be said.

Stay away from this vet. I brought my 17 yo cat in for an enema and xray due to constipation. Dr. Kay anesthetized my cat and cleaned his teeth without my consent. My cat never recovered from anesthesia and is now dead. I purposefully did not have my cats teeth cleaned before due to the risks associated with anesthesia on an older pet. Dr. Kay was irresponsible and took liberties I DID NOT CONSENT TO and never would have, if he had discussed it with me prior to proceeding.

Update - the BBB informed me today that Dr. Kay said my cat had a lumbar tumor and was going to die soon anyway! I was never told about any tumor and, if my cat had a life threatening tumor, what crazy vet would go ahead and perform dentistry on him? This is crazy talk. This vet is a menace and I will get his license pulled. Extremely unprofessional behavior from a "professional".

Dr. Kay was very helpful and just happened to be in the office on the evening of February 10th I brought Kayla our over 9 year old Rottie in because she suddenly became ill. Dr. Kay let me bring her right in and immediately checked her out and made her as comfortable as possible. He called us at home at around 9:45 pm to let us know that she had passed away. Dr. Kay was busy doing things in the office and stopped to take care of Kayla who he had taken care of since she was a puppy. He is a great Vet who cares for every animal he see's.

We have been taking all of our animals to Dr. Kay for years now. He is kind and good with the animals and will ALWAYS take the time to explain things to you. One can always have a bad experience anywhere, but Dr. Kay is a great vet and decent man.

We've taken our pets to Dr Kay for over 20 years. He truly is a great guy who cares very much for the animals. I would recommend him to anyone in the area who needs a vet.

Dr Kay was wonderful. We called him about our sick dog, just as he was closing his office for the day. Not only did he tell us to come right in, he took the time to take x-rays as well. he could have hit us with "after hour" fees, but he didn't. Many other vets would have told us to wait till the morning. He really did go above and beyond

I have had only positive experiences with Dr. Kay and his staff in the 20+ years as our family Veterinarian. Is he a bit quirky? The answer is yes, but that is what makes him so special. He truly loves all his patients and treats them, as well as their owners, with respect and compassion. He makes himself available at all times of the day and night. When we knew the time had come to end our dog's suffering he opened his office in the evening for us, bestowing dignity to our family and pet at such a difficult time. I have recommended him to others who are very happy to have him as their vet too! Try him, I promise you will not be disappointed.

I have been to three vets here in Orange and then I found Dr. Kay. He TRULY cares for animals. He takes "vacations" where he does rescue missions to care for stranded or injured or abused animals. He has raised orphan animals himself (and not just pets... wild animals, too). He donates time and services to spay and neuter clinics. If you have an emergency he gives you his HOME number, and has come in on his time off on weekend for emergencies without charging ridiculous fees like the 24-hour emergency vets do. He spends lots of time researching puzzling illnessess when the tests show nothing, and always calls you to check on your pet after a visit. He is also conscientious of the pets for whom he is caring, keeping in mind their comfort when recommending treatment for them. While he may be quirky, I would NEVER go anywhere else with my cat. Dr. Kay is the vet for us.

Dr. Kay is the worst vet I have ever been to. We took our kitten to be spayed and he left a piece of something in her that causes her to go into heat now. We took her back to him and he said it wasn't worth another operation, so now we have to go to another vet and get her help. I would never ever take another animal to that butcher. I don't care how he speaks or where he went to vet school, to do something like he did to our cat is reprehensible and his license should be taken away.

I can't believe anyone could say anything bad about this Dr!
He graduated top of his class from Cornell- and is an ex Marine. He is hands down the best vet I have ever gone to.
He is caring and and doesn't rush you -ever. He schedules appointments so that you never have to wait a long time which is less stressful on your pet. I don't know what or who the previous reviewers are talking about but they got it all wrong!

We have been going to him for 8 yrs. He is easy to talk to and isn't arrogant like our previous vet. The prior 2 nasty reviewers obviously weren't paying attention. Dr. Kay occasionally stutters. Sometime he takes a minute to get his words together. Your comments were extremely unkind and mean. He is a graduate of Cornell Veterinary School so obviously stuttering has nothing to do w/ intelligence. He has the cleanest veterinary waiting room I've ever been in. It doesn't smell of animals, which is great credit to him and his staff considering how many animals go through there in a day.

I agree- Dr Kay is definitely on something. He cannot speak properly and does not seem to know what he is talking about. He is always unsure of himself and never gives a definite answer. He also does not do a thorough exam.
