I went to Dr. Yount because my dentist referred me to him. My dentist told me he did not know what was wrong with me and felt very confident that Dr. Yount could solve my problem. I was experiencing pain unlike I had ever had before in my teeth and jaw. I had even saw a sinus specialist who ruled out sinus involvement and referred me back to my dentist. I saw Dr. Yount, who examined me and then set up a treatment plan that involved treatment from other providers--not Dr. Yount-- and the use of a very expensive mouth guard. When I first set up an appointment I was told that they did not accept insurance but they strongly assured me that insurance would legally have to give me benefits. I was in excruciating pain and had no idea what was wrong with me so, due to my Dentist's strong recommendation, I felt like I had no choice but to see Dr. Yount--insurance or not I had to get rid of the pain as I couldnt function. I couldnt sleep and I was needing the pain to stop. I went through weeks of agonizing pain and not one person could help me. For weeks I went for treatment and there was no relief in pain. In fact, some of the treatment that Dr. Yount ordered has left me with on going neck pain. No one told me I had TMJ. And no one would tell me what was wrong with me. After a rejection from my insurance claim, I immediately stopped treatment from Dr. Yount. I had paid him thousands of dollars and with no relief from pain. I desperately set up an appointment on my own with another doctor who did a MRI and within a couple of weeks he had determined that I indeed did have TMJ. By that time, however, and thousands of dollars later, my pain had begun to subside on its own. In my opinion, Dr. Yount is a scam artist just after your money and takes advantage of the fact that when a person is in excruciating pain that they will do almost anything to end it. Needless to say I have found another dentist as well.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Useless, expensive, false claims, does not accept insurance

Dr. Yount has patient care always at the front of his mind. His office staff is friendly and he does excellent work in providing a multiplidisciplinary approach to pain management. He did the very best to ensure costs stayed down too. There is even a "pay-it-forward" program: fifty dollars is deducted for every hour spent doing community service! He demands that patients take initiative in caring for themselves. Fantastic doctor and a down-to-earth friendly guy. I highly recommend him and the Raleigh Facial Pain Center.

Pros: excellent patient care-knowlegeable specialist, stays current with up-to-date research, friendly people

Cons: patient must take responsibility for their own health-it takes effort

If you are considering seeing Keith Yount at raleigh facial pain services for TMJ, keep in mind he only "oversees" and "directs" care that physical therapists, and other practitioners give you...He is extremely expensive. All he would do at appointments is would ask questions like.."hows physical therapy going" and "are the medications working" and "hang in there!". Allot of times I felt like I was paying for someone just to keep my spirits up.

The treatment for tmj disorders are the same wherever you go (besides surgery which is not recommended). Physical therapy, a splint ( which is an orthotic that a dentist can give you), and pain medication (which anyone can perscribe to you).

The positive thing that I can say about my experience is that he makes a very good splint...Regular dentists allot of times don't know how to make them well. He does a good job.

But I guess the bottem line should be if you have the money and you are desperete, then you might consider seeing him. He is very knowledgeable and can give you a diagnosis. Your health should be top priority.
