On this Thanksgiving Weekend I wanted people to know how grateful I am for the kindness and wonderful experience with this practice. I consulted two other Ophthalmologists before meeting Dr. Koenisgberg; eyes are precious and the immediate trust was with Dr. Koenisgberg, my search was over.
Immediately walking into the office I had a sense of home; colors soft and the room was peaceful. The administrator, Eric, welcomed me with a huge smile as if I were family. I noticed how promptly and efficiently patients were taken to exam rooms. Dr. Koenisgberg is such a pleasure; soft spoken and patient while explaining all the details and procedures necessary. Both my cataract surgeries were a success and went as explained, especially since I required a more difficult surgery in one eye. No more glasses, what an amazing and happy experience!
I have recommended my whole family. My daughter and husband have already been and my husband is looking forward to his scheduled surgery in January so he can remove bottle thick glasses:another delicate surgery, yet no worries with Dr. K in charge!
I was so excited to use my "new eyes" without glasses at the restaurant when I proudly "read and asked" for the Asian fish. Hearing the laughter, I was soon corrected when the waitress said it "READ" Alaskan fish. So, one request I now have, "I may have perfect eye sight Dr K. but can you now teach me to read correctly!"
Gratefully Yours,
Sandra W

A very professional and compassionate staff. We are greeted by name when we arrive. You're seen within minutes of arriving. There a lots of magazines available to read, but don't bother! You're not going to be able to even have the chance to skim them.

Dr K is very good about evaluating and explaining the problem. He then laid out several potential courses of action along with their potential ramifications. Armed with this, my son was able to make informed choices regarding his condition, his health, and his appearance.

My son opted for surgical correction of his condition. Dr K knew my son had, in the past, not had good experiences with anesthesia. Dr K proactively prescribed an anti-nausea medication which made the whole post surgery experience much easier on my son and on me as the caregiver.

The surgery results were great! His eyes now "look normal". In today's society, where appearance is so important, that's a big deal.

Don't let the few bad reviews fool you, Dr. Koenigsberg is an excellent doctor. I suffered from strabismus (eye mis-alignment) for most of my life. I underwent surgeries with different doctors to correct it twice before, but neither achieved the desired results. The first was an under correction and the second was a large over correction. After the second surgery I was unsure if I would ever have proper eye alignment, but Dr. Koenigberg was able correct my eye alignment (which had gotten quite poor by the time of the surgery) on his first try. The results were very good and my eyes now have perfect alignment.

Dr. K was very knowledgeable, personable and professional. He clearly explained upfront my condition, the procedure to treat it, and the expectancies post operation. He was also very open to questions and concerns. I couldn't ask for more.

Dr. Keoningsberg's brother Erik is the office administrator, and despite what other reviewers have said about him, I found him to be nothing but polite and professional.

Overall I had an excellent experience with Dr. Koenigsberg and would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Koenigsburg:
Personable, professional, skilled, patient, intuitive, steady-hand, swift!
Meeting with him was very easy in his nice home like office in Deerwood. From the beginning I could tell that he really cares about the patient's satisfaction. He is very humble and honest about expectancies so that you know what to expect in the end. Following his mottos "less is more," he makes sure that he maticulously plans out the work in stages, if need be, to mold the surgery int a near perfect sculpture. Lastly he is very personable but yet still professional making you feel more at ease with the surgery and it is a great feeling knowing that he can actually connect with you on both the personal and professional level, making you at ease, while still holding the doctor/patient relationship.

How I got my surgery and the results:
First of all, I want to say that being stationed on a ship makes it difficult to get anyting as far as surgery goes set up because of the ships schedule and being in and out of port. I had to jump through a few hoops and Erik Koenigsburg saw me through all of this. He maticulously planned and executed my referral that was held up by the NAS Jax hospital. I was waiting for 5 months on a referral and I went out on whim one day and decided to call the medical administrator (Erik) and see what he could do, within 48 hrs I had an appointment to see the doctor 2 months later I had my surgery on December 7, 2011. This was my third attempt and definitely will be the LAST attempt because of the near perfection on the correction.

I am very pleased in the cleanliness of the office and how professional the office staff was while I waited on my appointment. The office environment was very orderly and I did not have to wait for a long time to see the doctor. Dr. Adam Koenigsberg is a very caring and professional person who made sure I knew exactly what was going on with my pupils and vision in detail. I love going to a doctor's office and not have to worry about whether or not the equipment being used is cleaned before every use. I will definitely go back for a followup.

my name is sussi jensen have had double vision all my life, saw Dr.Adam re: referral from my neurologist, after a serious MVA that left me seeing 3 .
After many $$ of which most was out of pocket..I got an RX for prism corrective lenses and told make these work this is the best I can do for you. Since then my short term disability case was closed because Dr. Adam refused to sign my STD form without charging $250 .. seems that is the magic # everything in their office. I have since made an appointment with a OD who also specializes in my problem and he spent far more time with me then Dr. Adam ever did (Dr.Adam brags he is a MD specialist and surgeon) and has very unrealistic billing practises that my BCBSFL policy does not cover.
My new dr is still not done with his review of my condition but has already discovered more issues then originally discovered by Dr. Adam and most of my appt.WAS covered by my insurance..go figure. My wife and I are in contact w/ alot of parents and can assure you the new Dr. will be getting all future referrals and I will be sending a letter to my neuro and to the boards Dr. Adam is member of. BEWARE of Erik he not only runs the whole show but he is Dr. Adam's brother and is rude, and a serious liar.

Business Response:

I??m Dr Koenigsberg??s administrator and I have reviewed this complaint. Unfortunately, optical services such as eyeglass testing and prismatic work are non covered services by most major medical health insurance or auto plans. Patients are informed of this prior to provision of services to avoid any misunderstanding. Similarly, routine completion of disability forms, which can be lengthy, are considered by most health insurance and disability companies as non- medical services and are not covered. Our office charges reasonable and customary fees for completion of non-covered services such as completing disability forms and speaking with disability insurance companies about a patient status depending on the length of the forms and the time spent engaging with the insurance company. Patients are advised of these fees prior to completion of forms. This is a procedure which is similar to most other MD practices in this area. Please feel free to contact our office if you have concerns about the nature of covered items within your health and auto insurance coverage.

I scheduled an appointment at Dr. Koenigsberg's office. I'm 44 years old and have suffered with dry eyes for years. Now that age has crept up on me I've had a difficult time seeing as well.
After getting into his office within two days was amazing. I had a complete exam by Dr. Koenigsberg as well as Glaucoma screening. His administrator, Erik, actually performed the Field of Vision and GDX which took pictures of my cornea by method of a laser.
I felt very welcomed at the office. It's nice to be able to go online and praise an office when I'm pleased. It seems like most people complain online nowadays. I highly recommend Deerwood Ophthalmology. Dr. Koenigsberg and his staff deserve an A+.

I am Dr Koenigsberg's practice administrator. He is an excellent ophthalmologist and we have a busy practice of over 10000 patients. Dr Koenigsberg spends time with his patients despite the busy nature of seeing both children and adults. We have many quality controls to ensure every patient is satisfied with their care here. I've reviewed the opinions on this site. Dr. Koenigsberg is board certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and maintains an active license to practice medicine and surgery in Florida. He is also fellowship trained in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (eye muscle disorders). He received his college degree at Duke University, a Master of Science (MS) in Microbiology at Miami University, and went to medical school at the prestigious Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He also completed a four year Ophthalmology residency program at LSU Eye Center in New Orleans, a top tier residency training program. Finally he undertook an elective fellowship year in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Temple University and St Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. His combined training took 16 years to complete. He maintains active hospital privileges at Baptist Medical Center, Wolfson Children's Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital, St Luke's Hospital and UF Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. Unfortunately some patients attempt to discredit a practice over the "real" issues which are missed appointment fees, average collections efforts for unpaid balances and letters of medical concern which are sent after missed appointments. I'm proud to represent this office and encourage you to call me with any questions. I can personally assure that you will have an excellent experience at our practice. Dr Koenigsberg has trained at some of the best institutions in the United States and here you will experience a caring and professional environment. It is truly a privilege to be of service.

I recently had cloudy vision after cataract surgery done a year ago in another state. Dr Koenigsberg was able to clear up the cloud with a special laser treatment that only took a minute. I was very pleased and grateful. His office is beautiful and the staff very professional and knowledgeable.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND UNREALISTIC POLICIES!!! Eric, the office manager, kicked my wife out in a very unprofessional manner because she brought more than the maximum number of children allowed in their facility at one time for an appointment. I guess having more than two children is a crime these days or maybe they have ties with communist China. Anyway, I phoned the office in order to attempt a resolution and I received nothing but argumentative comments in return and then was hung up on. I phoned right back and asked to speak with the Doctor and was hung up on again. How rude. I will ensure that my insurance company is promptly notified, so that others do not meet with the same unfortunate results. I will also be filing a formal complaint with the BBB. This Doctor's office does not even deserve the one star rating that I am forced to give them in this comment section.

Business Response:

I'm Dr Koenigsberg's administrator. I'm so sorry you feel the way you do. Our practice maintains the identical pediatric patient guest policy as does our local Children's Hospital, Wolfson Children's Hospital. That is, there is a limit for no more than 2 children per family. The hospital and our practice both believe this is important to maintain a healthy and harmonious atmosphere for our patients. In order to avoid spread of infectious diseases, this is particularly important as many of our patients are very young or elderly, and more susceptible to disease. Our policies are in writing and all patients are told on the phone about these limits. We are indeed very family friendly, and try are best to ensure every patient is happy with our service and our atmosphere. Should you wish to discuss the situation further with us, please feel free to contact us at your convenience. I hope this explains the situation to you in greater detail.

I had the worst experience of my life with that office. Erik (the office manager) is one of the rudest people I have ever come in contact with in my life. They sent me a bill OVER 7 months after my appointment telling me that the claim was not paid by my insurance...when I called my insurance company they had NO record that the claim was ever submitted. Erik failed to submit it in a timely manor therefore insurance would not cover it. We went back and fourth and he hung up on me and then hung up on the insurance company. My insurance company sent him a letter stating that they can not hold me responsible for their own negligence. Apparently doctors offices are in a contractual agreement when they accept insurance to file with in a certain time frame. If they fail to do so, it is the doctors responsibility to pay. The insurance company ended up paying the claim with proof that I was there that day 7 months prior but AFTER Erik had sent the balance to collections which means I'm stuck wit a $160 fee from Accounts Payable. I now pay the collections agency $25 per month to pay off the balance. The doctor himself was not bad and did a great job but Erik and the rude receptionist make that practice unbearable to deal with. I would NEVER go back there and I would NEVER refer anyone to them either.

I'm Dr Koenigsberg's administrator. I'm so sorry you feel the way you do about our billing policies, which are quite routine. You are correct that we are contracted with most major insurance carriers, and we are given up to one year to file claims. Therefore a claim not paid promptly may be refiled, and, may be paid at the 7 month interval which most likely was the case in your situation. Your carrier appears to have led you to believe that claims submitted earlier than 12 months are not acceptable. This is incorrect. Further, as in most every physician office in the area, payment is ultimately the responsibility of the recipient of service. This is explained in great detail in the paperwork which our patients sign. Should you wish to discuss the matter further, feel free to give us a telephone call. It is a pleasure to be of service.

This doctor will be in my heart forever. He saved my son's life. My son had been complaining of seeing blurry vision in one eye. He had been to see a few other doctor's including another eye doctor who felt it was not serious or might have been something he was born with. Dr. Koenigsberg diagnosed a brain tumor after extensive testing was performed. Although the road has been rough for our family, we will always be grateful to him and his practice for having made such difficult diagnosis and changed our lives forever for the positive. I would recommend him and his practice to anyone, and in particular anyone who wants to have an honest and very thorough evaluation of their medical and eye problems.

I had made an appointment with Dr. Koenigsberg and was unable to cancel within the 24 hrs. time frame. I paid the missed appointment fee but because it did not fall within the 10 days they give you to pay they sent it to collections. Now they are trying to collect over $100 in fees without any services being performed. Would never refer anyone to this company or doctor.

I'm Dr Koenigsberg's administrator. I'm so sorry that you were not able to make your appointment. As you know, our practice has a missed appointment fee, as do many practices in the area. All fees are expected to be remitted promptly to avoid outsourcing to collections. I would personally be glad to assist you in resolution of the matter. Feel free to contact me at your convenience.

I have visited Dr Adam Koenigsberg and I have had the worst experience of my life time. The administrator (Erik Koenigsberg) seems to have the entire control of the office administration and they made my visit really miserable. I have visited them 4 months ago and they keep sending me bills. Even with my insurance I have paid more than 400 dollars and I still keep getting the bills. The worst part is they send the bills and they give you 10 days to make the payment and they mention that after 10 days it'll be sent to collection agency. Added to it, if they make any mistakes in billing (which they constantly do) they "wont" talk to you on the phone to resolve those issues. You got to send all communications in writing. Also they wont talk to your insurance company which probably is the height of testing your patience. Also I found something interesting on the Internet. Please look at this before you plan to get an appointment.

Business Response:

I'm Dr Koenigsberg's administrator. I apologize you have had some billing issues. Our patients are told however that all balances due are the responsiblity of the recipient of service. This is true of most every practice in the city. Balances are expected to be paid promptly, and we are always delighted to help our patients when there are genuine insurance problems. Deductibles, copayments, etc are always the patient responsibility. It is so unfortunate to read an attempt to possibly discredit Dr Koenigsberg. The links you refer to on the internet are as follows: The first refers to a work dispute with a former employer of Dr Koenigsberg some 8 years ago, which Dr Koenigsberg won on appeal as written in the link. The second describes an old and minor complaint to the board of medicine in 2004 which was resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Dr Koenigsberg is actively licensed to practice medicine and surgery in Florida, and is board certified in Ophthalmology and fellowship trained in Pediatric Ophthalmology. Please feel free to communicate with me if I can help bring your situation to resolution. We are always glad to be of service.

I just moved from Washington, D.C. and needed an Ophthalmologist to follow up with my medical eye condition. Well, to my surprise, I walked into a wonderfully decorated office with very friendly office staff... Very different from where I lived. They even had plentiful parking. I felt very welcomed. When I went into the examination room, Dr. Koenigsberg greeted me with a very warm smile and spent a long time reviewing my medical condition. He was very concerned, very professional, and had a wonderful "bedside" manner. Something that I was not accustomed to in the medical field. When my exam was finished. I felt relieved. Not only that I was "O.K.", but that I found a wonderful Ophthalmologist that I can visit for years to come. Jacksonville is my new home and Dr. Adam Koenigsberg comes highly recommended not only by myself, but from patients that I met and spoke to in the waiting room. By the way, the flat screen televisions throughout are terrific! I will be taking my children to Dr. Koenigsberg as well.
