I would NOT recommend Dr. Charles Ku to anyone. First off, it took me about 3 months to be added to his "roster" of new clients, which is literally a hard copy roster they go by in his office. However, since I had read good reviews, I decided to wait. I went in for cleaning only, the staff was nice, but the doctor did not spend any time with me and was extremely fast and rough when performing the cleaning. He actually chipped off a piece of an older filling.I came back to get that fixed and when I showed up at 8am the receptionist seemed surprise and said I shouldn't be there since the Dr. was on vacation. She affirmed they left a message for me letting me know the day before (I expect more of a notice) and when she checked my number she had the wrong area code, so she obviously left a message to the wrong person.
When I requested my and my husbands file to be sent to a new dentist, they gave me a run around and insisted we had to go in person to request that (again, it seems they do everything the "old fashioned way").
Finally, the office is old and appears to be dirty. Not a sign of a computer at the office. I'm sorry, but if he can't update his lobby furniture or get a computer, I don't want to think how old his dentistry equipment must be. Horrible experience, no matter what.

Dr. Ku and his staff are incredibly friendly. I don't have many dental problems, so I go for routine cleanings. However, Dr. Ku laid out a plan for my husband to fix all of his dental problems. Dr. Ku's staff works with your insurance company so you don't have to. His office is relaxing - and super fast! No 30 minute wait when you have an appointment (how Dr.'s should be!)

Dr. Ku was friendly and fast, but he was far too rough. I am one of the odd few who actually enjoy going to the dentist, bc I love to have clean teeth, but this was a really horrible experience for me. I've moved a lot, and as a result have visited many dentists, and this was the most painful and worst experience I have had at any dentist. I've never had a dentist make me bleed so much or cause such pain.
Dr. Ku moved incredibly fast, so much so that he took no time to take any care or caution around the gum line. When scraping plaque from the teeth, he moved rapidly, pressed very hard, and was not careful around the gums. It felt like he was poking and cutting my gum line repeatedly, and he even poked me in the tongue when his tool flew off my tooth. He also dropped the tool out of his hand one time and it hit my tooth. I was bleeding heavily, and my gums were in pain. He asked me once to rinse w/mouthwash at the sink, and when I rinsed and spat, it was completely brown with blood. I am not exaggerating. Now, I have bled at the dentist before, and I understand this is not totally uncommon, but we are talking about LOTS of blood. I think he might have actually cut my gums, because even 1 hr after my appointment they were still caked with blood in between one tooth, and in one area were bloody and purple as if bruised. He was also rough when flossing -- he moved very quickly and jammed the floss into my sore gums with too much force.
I have good teeth -- they are very white and healthy, and Dr. Ku let me know I had no cavities, but I didn't feel confident because he hardly looked at my teeth other than my 5 min brutal speed clean.
I have had intense cleanings before, after waiting too long to go to the dentist, and I've had dentists really have to scrape at the plaque on my teeth, but usually they do so carefully and try to avoid cutting your gums with their tools! I would rather someone take twice as long, if it meant that I would not be in pain.
If speed, at the expense of comfort, is the only thing that is important to you, then you should be fine. Like I said, the doctor was friendly as was the office staff, but I will not be returning. I could never sit through that again. Maybe I am more sensitive than other people.
(Also, the receptionist charged me twice what my co-pay was supposed to be. I didn't realize it because it was my first time to use my new insurance. Luckily, another lady in the office caught it before I left.)
(I was also not a fan of the "cocoa butter" they insist on slathering all over your lips and around your mouth. I understand they want to keep your lips from chapping and cracking, and I appreciate that, but I like my skin to be clean and fresh and it grossed me out to have a huge wad of petroleum jelly smeared around my mouth. I would have preferred to put it on myself, and tried to take the q tip from her hand, but the hygenist insisted on doing it herself.)
