I have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and my labs are never normal -- my TSH fluctuates all over the place. It's horrible to live this way, but all I got from Dr. Mulmed was, "not everything is the fault of your thyroid, you know." Now, years later, I'm starting to explore the possibility that celiac disease is contributing to my problems. This was brought to my attention by a Mayo endocrinologist and my family doctor. Both of these physicians were very validating -- both are very concerned about how these fluctuations are affecting my life and my health. Save yourself some time and copays and go to a doctor that's willing to listen and isn't afraid to sympathize.

Finally, a doctor who breaks from the pack and does the least invasive route. I'm a hyper-thyroid and he's the only one I can trust to prescribe tapazole without creating more problems than hyper-thyroidism.

My father has been fortunate enough to see Dr. Mulmed for years and I can seriously report that Dr. Mulmed has added years to my father's life. My father has many other health concerns and the Doctor's management of his diabetes and hyperlipidemia has been outstanding. I also happen to be an RN at a hospital down the street and when an Endocrinologist is needed as a consultant, Dr. Mulmed is #1 on most physicians' lists. He will tweak and fine-tune a patent's regimen until those "numbers" are just where he wants them and won't be satisfied until they are. If you need hand-holding in the real sense, you won't get it from him, but I can honestly say he shows care and concern and doesn't treat his patients as a cookie cutter of each other. He really stays on task because he is so in demand that his case load is very heavy but doesn't rush through appointments or rounds. I realize we all have different experiences and situations, but I really find some of the less flattering reports difficult to imagine. I do know that he won't give lack of medical compliance or failure to follow doctor's orders a "pass" and will call a spade a spade. He expects the patient to take responsibility for their actions-after all, he can't follow you home and make sure you carry out his recommendations. He has a very dry sense of humor that some may misinterpret. Many a time have I seen him rounding on his ICU patients VERY early in the morning and VERY late at night. His dedication is admirable and hard to match.

I was referred to Dr. Mulmed by a surgeon who was planning to perform a tumor resection on me. I thought he was very respectful, knowledgeable, and responsive to my needs. I am in the healthcare field myself and feel I am very selective in who I choose as my caregivers. He personally called me several times during my treatment to discuss test results or treatment plans. I would not hesitate to recommend Lawrence Mulmed, M.D..

Great sense of humor, very knowledgeable. I appreciate his dilligence and attitude. He explained very patiently what was needed and how my new medical condition affected my body.

I am a woman in my thirties, suffering from Hypothyroidism and Hoashimoto's disease for most of my life. I'm not one to complain, or even go to doctors much, but having to be monitored every six months, and my test never coming back "normal" coupled with always feeling tired, depressed, low-energy, chronic headaches (I could go on, but I hate complaining!!) I figured I would take my health seriously so I could get my life back - I have too much to do in this life besides feeling terrible - I was shocked at Dr. Mulmed's attitude, dark ages mentality and his shear lack of ampathy - he actually told me that I wished it was my thyroid - that I just needed a few good nights sleep, and when I was telling him some of my symptoms, He asked me if I knew the origin of the word "Hysteria" that it's a greek word for uterus - WHAT!!!??? I sat there stunned, I let him finish his exam, got dressed and never looked back - He needs to retire, the damage and injustice he's serving up to his patients is nothing less than dark-ages. he has clearly lost the reason why one becomes a doctor in the first place - to better peoples lives.

I suffer from a chronic condition that requires medical attention on an ongoing basis. I have been under the medical care of many outstanding physicians in the Twin Cities. Unfortunately, Dr. Mulmed cannot be counted among them. He did not get back to me in a timely manner with test results. It took me over 2 months to get the results of tests that he ordered. And only after I called him a few times inquiring about the results did he get back to me. The tests results were not normal and he said that he was having an "expert" review them and that he would get back to me on how I should proceed. That conversation took place in December of 2005. Dr. Mulmed has never said another word to me or to my other doctors about these abnormal test results. In January of 2006 I left a few messages for him regarding some other tests. He told me that he wanted to speak to my electrophysiologist and that he would get back to me in a couple of weeks. I have yet to hear back from him. He didn't reserve this treatment only for me. My electrophysiologist told me that when he called Dr. Mulmed to discuss my condition, it was very apparent that Dr. Mulmed was not interested in talking to him. Enough said. There are enough outstanding physicians in the Twin Cities; I wouldn't recommend that anyone spend a minute under Dr. Mulmed's care.

PROS: NONE
CONS: Lack of follow-up, poor "bedside" manner
