This place epitomizes the problems with health care. You are forced to wait weeks for an appointment that if you are late for or miss you will be penalized. But if you show up on time you get to wait for in excess of an hour. (This was my experience more than once.) The receptionists do a good job making you feel like a number and everyone will acknowledge that there is a problem but no one will take responsibility for it. Therefore you take what you get or you get nothing. Guess what? I don't have to take it. There are plenty of other doctors who know both medicine and how to care for people.

I have been a patient at Portland Family Practice off and on (off was being forced to switch to Kaiser Permanente, not a happy experience) for five years and I consider the medical care I've received from the doctors and other staff there to be the best I've ever had. I've primarily seen Pete and Bonnie Reagan, and they are notable not only for their professional excellence but also for being good and empathetic listeners. They truly walk their talk when it comes to respecting patients and treating them as equal partners in making health care/treatment decisions. I've had competent health care before, but I had never previously experienced such kindness and compassion from a medical care provider. Other doctors I've seen at PFP have also been excellent.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and hypertension 5 years ago, but thanks in part to the outstanding, EMPOWERING care I receive from Portland Family Practice I am now in excellent control of both conditions: my blood sugar levels and blood pressure levels are completely normal with minimal medication, I've lost more than 50 pounds, and I'm told that my life-time risks of complications are greatly reduced.

I generally make morning appointments and have only rarely experienced long wait times, but the occasional wait has been well worth it given the quality of the care. I also appreciate the fact that I can always get a same day appointment for urgent care needs.

Highly recommended!

I/my family have been patients here for many years. My son was delivered by Dr. Bonnie Reagan and she has continued to be his primary doctor for 5 years now. She is amazing as are all the doctors here!! Sure, sometimes the wait is long and sometimes it is not. I know that my Doctor is taking the time to care for their patients needs. I think that part of the reason the doctors run behind is that people bring a list of things that they want to discuss when they only have a 20 minute appointment. If people were to focus on 1-2 issues per visit, it would be a more efficient use of their time and the doctor's time and all the other patients waiting to be seen. Of course, this is only my opinion but it seems to me that there are many more positive opinions about this practice than negative. I would and have recommended them to anyone who wants a doctor that cares about you and not the bottom line.

I have been with PFP for over 20 years with Gene Uphoff as my Dr. I have seen other Dr's at the clinic, and like Gene the Best. All of the Docs will take the time to find out what your problem is. Even to the point of calling you at home after an appointment to make sure you are doing well. I was in the hospital once and had both Gene Uphoff and Mike Hudson come in at the same time to make sure I was all right, wowGranted they will at times get behind, what clinic does not? But there are times that these Doc's go out of their way to go to the hospital during bussiness hours to deliver a baby or at any other odd hours of the night.Would I recommend them, Highly!!

My children are patients of Dr. Debbie, and Dr. Josh. My family members also see some of the other providers on staff and we all love being part of this practice. They even have a new web-site,

www.portlandfp.com,

lots of great info can be found. Take a look.
Long waits? it's because they are taking a lengthy amount of time listening to patients problems, offering options for treatment that will best suite the patient and not rushing anyone. It's worth the wait. most likely they are missing their own lunch times, and I've had phone calls late in the evening regarding my daughter's care. Thanks PFP!

I have been with this practice for over 10 years. I have watched it deteriorate. Not only do I have to wait sometimes up to 1 1/2 hours for a scheduled appointment (And when I was 10 min. late once due to traffic, I was told that I would have to reschedule!), there seems to be no communication between all the various doctors I see each time I come in. This is ironic in that they have taken to having computers on their laps and type as they are talking to you. This is very alienating. Although there are two doctors I would miss, I am currently seeking another practice. There is no follow through and I do not feel cared for.

I've been a PFP patient for nearly a year (roughly 10 appointments). I see Dr. Susie Bobenreith. Yes I've had to wait very long periods at times, but it was ALWAYS 100% worth every minute. It's taken me forever to find a doctor who cares about ME and not the bottom line, who's not judgmental, and is nothing but kind, supportive, and knowledgeable. Of course with such doctors the schedule can suffer, but that's exactly what needs to happen. Get real whiners--first class care takes time, period. I've seen a lot of doctors and been to all kinds of practices in the 39 years I've been around--NONE compare to Dr. Susie!

We have been with Pete @ PFP for over 20 years (3 moves by them). Yes sometimes you have to wait, but have never felt rushed.

Pete caught my hypothyroidism off of general complaint & look at my fingernails. The expanding crew have all been helpful and understanding,

When we were unhappy with my mother's doctors, they squeezed her into a full practice and managed her care and then passing professionally.

Our daughter preferred travelling to PDX rather than seeking local care during school @ U of O.

With Pete and Bonnie semi-retiring, I'm sure that PFP will continue and maintain one of the best family-oriented practices in PDX.

We have been going to PFP for five years. We picked it after visiting and interviewing a half dozen family practice docs around town.

I think some of the complaints on here are just; wait times are often quite long even at the start of the day, and we have had an experience or two of flakiness with the office staff.

However, having said that, I would still definitely recommend PFP. People need to grow up. You often have to wait to see a doctor wherever you go. This isn't Burger King. The flip side of the long waits is that if you need extra time they give it to you.

The practice is big enough they can handle most stuff in house, including blood draws, which often saves a hassle. They can almost always work you in the same day, too, because they have enough docs to handle the workload.

Dr. Bonnie Reagan made an amazing diagnosis during a routine physical of my wife's serious endocrinological problem -- a problem we didn't even know she had. We'll always be grateful.

In sum, PFP, like any human institution, has some problems, but overall it's great. We will continue to trust them with our health care and recommend them to others.

I am not sure why the person before me is so disgruntled? I have been late and they still see me. Im usually in and out very quickly. Dr. Josh is the greatest doctor we have ever been to. He is personable, caring, loving, and truely concerned about our family. We moved away for a while and he even called my son on his first birthday! While we were gone we saw many doctors and none held a candle to PDX family practice. I feel lucky that I've found this office. They've worked with me on many different occasions. Theyre clean, beyond friendly, organized, safe. I dont have enough good things to say. :) we LOVE this office.

I agree the doctors are nice. But the way they run the office and handle medical issues is very un-professional. The wait time is always over an hour, but if your even 5 min late they wont see you. Even though their are over 5 people in the waiting room who have been waiting over an hour for your same doctor whom havent been seen yet. I personally would find a different set of doctors that have a better understanding on how to run a clinic.

My family and I have been going to PFP since 1997. Our main provider is Dr. Peter Reagan. He is truly wonderful. He has NEVER rushed any of us and he even delivered our son even though he was not on call that day. We have also had to see many other physicians there for urgent care after hours clinic and all of them were excellent. They do often have a long wait time but since they spend a great deal of time with me, I know they are spending time with all their patients. I would highly recommend them.

I have been attending this clinic since 1999. I have recomended at least a dozen people and their families to this clinic. The wait can some times be long, but getting a same day appointment can usually happen. The telephone staff and the lab staff are very nice and professional. Your wait time in the exam room is usually fairly short. The MA's are professional, they just do their job. The Doctors are friendly enough, however some of them do try to rush your appointment. Where they get the failing grade over and over is with test results. What I am about to say has happened to me, my family, and anybody that I know that goes there. They are quick to send you to their in-house Lab to run lots of blood test. The Dr. always says they will have the results that day, and they personally will call you. However the Dr. NEVER calls you ! ! When after a few days go by, one figures no news is good news. So you call in and you get a MA who says well maybe all the test results are not in, or the Dr. has not read them, or the Dr. has not signed off on them so that the MA can give them to you over the phone. It usually takes 3 phone calls before a MA gives you your test results. Keep in mind before the test are ran the Dr. tells you they personally will be calling you with the results. Some of the test results are negative but some times they are inconclusive, and then they want you to make a follow up appointment for additional testing. Never have I or my family ever made an additional appointent. We have been very fortunate to not have anything seriously wrong with us. Go to this clininc for the care, but do not expect test results any time soon. Maybe they count on their out sourced lab to tell them if something is of URGENT matter on the test result, and then you get the call from the Dr. Also each person you talked to on the phone tells you something different. I have some say oh I will put a rush on this and the Dr. will call you today, others say, well you will just have to wait. When you express your frustration the MA on the phone gets very short with you. They proably get their money from the insurance company before you get your test results. I hope that somebody from Portland Family Medical gets this review. They need to improve in this area. People want their results back, and they want the results read to them from the Dr. Lab work is not cheap, also it is part of following through and completing the appoinment / exam.

My son and I both started seeing Dr. Lucy and the wonderful staff at Portland Family Practice about 8 months ago. They are cheerful people who make not so fun times very enjoyable. Dr. Lucy does a great job with infants and is very personable concerning feminine issues. I highly recommend this practice!

Only small complaint: they are usually running behind on schedules, but it moves quickly once you are in an exam room.

I really appreciate as well that they let me use the exam room after my son's appointments to nurse and change him. I never feel rushed out of there.

Thanks again Dr. Lucy and staff!

I saw Lucy Douglas at this clinic. I asked for a physical and a pap smear. I waiting for about 1 hr to see anyone, then when I did she passed me off to the lab saying, I don't like to do paps the first time I see patients. So, basically she was asking me to take off work again to come in and wait an hour to get a pap. I spent about a total of 10 min with her and later received my labs, they said I had gotten the pap smear and surprise...it was normal. Wow, great work and I didn't feel a thing. So, I had to go to another doctor and get the pap I needed, turned out I had something wrong with my cervix that could have been caught a lot earlier and it wasn't "normal" as the previous labs had miraculously suggested. I called their office to let them know that I got results that were erroneous because I never had a pap there and also wished not to be charged for a procedure I didn't have. No call back, no nothing. Wow, if only I could do such a terrible job and get paid so well!!

I started going to Portland Family Practice almost a year ago when i got tired of being at clinics where the doctors either wernt personal and didnt want to spend alot of time on the problem or clinics at OHSU where my doctor kept changing which got really frustrating. My doctor new doctor is Thomas Kasten and and he spends as much time as needed to cover whatever is going on with my health.

My only complaint would be that almost every time ive been to the clinic they are running late. but to me the quality of care is still worth the wait

I've been a patient at Portland Family Practice for 10 years, and my daughter was delivered by Drs. Pete & Bonnie Reagan. My experiences at the clinic have always been good -- they provide top-notch health care in a caring environment. The doctors and nurses take a personal interest in their patients and they've always spent ample time answering my health questions. I recommend Portland Family Practice highly.

Dr. Josh Regan is amazing, he made me feel so comfortable. I have diabetes as he does and he is better than any of the many many endocronologists I have ever seen. He made me feel so much more positive than ever and has really encouraged me to take care of myself better than ever. Also, Julie Chapman is the best, she is so in depth and really cares about her patients. These are the only two people I will see there because the rest either rush me out of there with short answers and little help, they are condesending and rude. The waits are very bad, I don't think I have actually ever waited LESS than twenty minutes in the waiting room alone. One time I waited over two hours. RIDICULOUS. Also I have been going here for almost fifteen years, just this past year is when I found these two, before I had no choice because I was under my parents insurance.

Portland Family Practice has been around for at least 27 years, b/c that is when I was delivered by a doctor who is still practicing to this day there! It's nice that you can choose to see your regular doctor or if he/she is not available, the clinic will offer you the opportunity to see any of their other wonderful physicians, PA's and LNP's. Yes, the office can be busy and clerks may be stressed at times, but yet everything is always clean and effeciently run. I haven't ever had to wait more than about 15 min to get to a exam room and then only 10-15 min at the most for my physician to come. I highly recommend!

I, and my family have been patients of Portland Family Practice for 15 years. We love it! Drs. Bonnie and Pete Reagan and their son Josh are wonderful, as is the rest of the staff. Staffing changes were an adjustment, but the office has pulled thru and always puts forth an incredible effort to put each patient first. Which is not an easy thing to do in a busy office. Thank you to the staff at Portland Family Practice.

I've been a patient for numerous years and after my nurse practitioner left, I should have too. The clerical staff is rude and impatient and the doctors are incredibly condescending. Bobbenreith was by far the worst. Unless you have a child with you, are expecting a child, or are a child yourself, don't expect fair or equal treatment. My nurse practitioner was incredible and was the only reason why I put up with the rest of the annoying staff. What's sad is that I was a child when they started seeing me, but as soon as I became an adult, the customary care and kindness went away too. Unbelievable... I've had better experiences at the DMV.

We loved going to Portland Family Practice. I liked that our whole family could see the same doctor. We went to Dr Kasten. He's awesome. my daughter was luck enough to keep the same doctor that delivered her until we moved!

I didn't like Dr. Susie Bobbenreith. I thought that she was really judgmental and wasn't the nicest lady after the delivery of my daughter. I was in the hospital talking about some things I was worrying about being a first time mom. She really made me feel uncomfortable and she said that must have had PPD because I was over reacting and being a nervous Nelly. What a terrible thing to tell a first time mom after a c-section! She pretty much ruined my birthing experience.

I go to Portland Family Practice, because I love my doctor, Dr. Susie Bobbenreith. I don't love the office atmosphere; it's big, noisy, busy, and doesn't feel very personal. Everytime I've gone there, I've had to wait a while; they always seem to be running behind. Like I said, I think my doctor is the best, and she's reason enough to put up with the things I dislike.

PROS: Excellent doctor!
CONS: Busy, long wait

This group of physicians is wonderful. I do not have words to describe how great they are. No matter who you get they are all terrific. The office is busy but they always are able to get you in.
