I am 24 years now, but from about 18 months old to about age 12, Dr. Long was my pediatric dentist. I'm proud to say that today not only do I have all my teeth, but they are white, straight, and in absolutely perfect shape...no cavities. True, this is a result of good oral hygiene, but it is also attributed to the excellent oral health care provided by Dr. Long when I was a child. He comforted my mother when her only child (me) was in the dental chair the first few times. He discussed developmental dentistry with my parents and answered any questions. He was kind and told stories of his own children while checking my teeth. He recommended an orthodontist who straightened my teeth and an oral surgeon who removed adult teeth to make room because of overcrowding. His clinical decisions were excellent and I know this now by looking in the mirror and seeing a perfect smile. Thank you Dr. Long. PS - I hope the kites are still in the waiting room, they use to fascinate me and took my mind off of the fact fingers would soon be in my mouth.

Dr. Long was my dentist while I was a child. I had my first visit with him twenty three years ago. I recalled having very enjoyable visits as a child and actually liked going to the dentist. Because of my great experiences, I took my son to Dr. Long for his first dentist visit last week. He loved it! My son is very shy and can be nervous. The staff (some of which were there when I was a kid) were awesome with him! The staff is amazing with kids, they speak to them in a way so the children understand what is going on and are not afraid. Both the dental hygienist and Dr. Long spoke with me about my son's visit. My son has a treatment plan that is going to require him to visit the dentist three more times in the next ninety days and he can't wait to go back!

I thought Dr. Long was supposed to be good. But a couple of things really bothered me from the start. I was not allowed to go back to the back to see what was going on, while I could hear a child screaming--my child. I was not at all happy, since our previous dentist, and every dentist I'd ever had as a child, allowed the parent in the room or at least the hall. My kids had never had problems at their previous dentist, no tears or anxiety, so to hear my 6-year-old screaming, a kid who is rough and tumble, told me something was really wrong.

Then, we were late twice. Twice. And asked never to return. It's "policy"--regardless of the reason. We had excellent reasons both times, but that didn't matter. Apparently some robot they can't question runs the office.

The previous poster says that Dr. Long comes out and talks to them after every appointment. In three years, we had that privilege exactly one time. And I always felt like I was being condescended to by the entire staff, like I wasn't smart enough to understand. I have an advanced degree. I *think* I could understand, if the attitude could be left behind.

My overall impression was not at all good, but for a long time I was lulled because of recommendations I'd read. But having learned some things since, I question a lot of my kids' care there. And things I didn't like but put up with because I thought he was supposed to be so good, I now am pretty upset about.

Both of my children have been patients of Dr Long all of their lives. I have always found him and his entire office staff to be friendly, helpful, and informative about all of their dental procedures. Dr Long will sit down with every parent at the end of the exam and explain everything and take time to answer any questions. But the most important thing is that this office is for children, and they go out of their way to make the kids feel comfortable and to take the fear out of the dentist. They have a playhouse and books and toys in the waiting room, as well as video games while they're being treated. They always remember the kids birthdays with a nice card. They give away small gifts occasionally, like a kids summer camp kit with lots of free samples, or Indians baseball tickets. I've heard that sometimes they have a waiting list for new patients here, and I understand why. My kids actually look forward to going to the dentist!

PROS: great dentist that the kids love
CONS: none
