Seeing some good reviews about the doctor and new to the area, I decided to get my annual pap done at this office. The first pap was just ok, but it felt rushed and rough. I, however, didn't think much about it and left. A couple days later I get a call that not enough cells were taken and that I had to come in and get another one because the lab needed more cells. I found this odd, considering I have been getting paps for years and years and never had this problem before. But, I scheduled another apt. for the following week just to stay on the safe side. The second pap was incredibly painful, she did not seem to care at all for my comfort, and I know paps can be uncomfortable and slightly painful but should not be that painful. She mentioned not knowing why there weren't enough cells collected in the first one, and then only after I mentioned something it might be she then goes , "oh yeah, look, that's what it is..the lab won't read that." Being the doctor, she should have known that the first time around. It was not rocket science. She was not paying attention the first time. And, to top it all off, I was forced to pay another co-pay.

And on a side note, my mother went to the same doctor, and recently went to her regular doctor who asked her why the gynocologist hadn't run tests for one of her symptoms, when it was clearly something the gynocologist should have caught.

I will not be going back.

Every GYN office I've been too (or even just called,) have been rude, hurried and generally nasty. However, my entire experience with Dr. Maciulla and her staff has been a huge breath of fresh air. I was blown away by how unusually nice and personable the office staff was, even after some insurance misunderstandings. Dr. Maciulla herself was very nice- not sugary and absurdly chipper, but a very professional combination of frank-yet-polite, and she treated me like an intelligent adult, which I really appreciated. She listened to all my questions and the exam itself was oddly un-awkward. I'd suggest her to anybody. She's the best GYN I've had, hands-down.

I've had Dr. Maclulla as my physician for over 15 years through many illness and many bouts of complicated medical history. If it wouldn't have been for her and her excellent staff I would have been dead or missing limbs. She is extraordinary! She even called me in Europe to give me my test results and start me on medication that saved my life. She is a truly what a physician should be and more.

While Dr. Maciulla and her nurse are good, her office staff is very unsatisfactory. The office staff has repeatedly botched scheduling my appointments, and been rude and patronizing while doing so. As just one example, last fall I had an annual exam scheduled two months away and my husband called in to try to get me an earlier one. (I work in a busy and crowded office environment where it is very difficult to make a private call so it was a great help that my husband could call for me.) When no earlier appointment was available and they grew frustrated talking to him instead of me and were rude, he said ok and to NOT cancel the existing appointment that was two months away--we would keep that appointment. I called in 2 weeks later to find they had canceled it anyway. I rescheduled the appointment and weeks later when I went to keep it, found that they did not have an appointment for me! They had canceled or failed to write down my appointment not once but twice. Dr. Maciulla and her nurse are great and answer questions even though they are busy. But her unsatisfactory office staff makes calling the office very unpleasant and although I've been a patient for 3 years, I am currently questioning whether the frustration of dealing with them is worth seeing Dr. Maciulla anymore.

As the husband of a woman who has seen Dr. Maciulla for 5 years, I would say that she has been caring, concerned, thorough, and even made a slightly less than comfortable husband feel welcomed and a part of discussions related to my wife's health. For this kind of care, we are both extremely grateful.

As it pertains to wait times and associated complaints, I would expect that when seeing a premier doctor in the area, you could expect to wait a bit longer. That's a part of the business. However, both she and her staff have always been upfront with us about expectations, and my wife has never indicated that she'd not been cared for carefully and attentively, no matter the workload of the staff.

Finally, if an indication of one's worth is the praise and respect of esteemed colleagues, then I should say that Dr. Maciulla is worth every bit of time and distance required to see her. We have encountered a number of top physicians in the area that have nothing but praise for her in skill, ethics and manner.

I have been a patient of Dr. Maciulla's for over 15 years now. I have followed her from Arlington to Vienna to her current location in McLean. She has been there for me throughout a number of issues including unexplained infertility and the birth of our first child. She is an outstanding doctor and person and I will continue to drive the 25+ miles to receive her care. Her nurse staff is very professional and friendly as well. They always remember me and make the experience as pleasant as a yearly exam can be!

Dr. Maciulla and her staff are fantastic. I've been going to her practice for several years, and have always been impressed with the care given. When I've had a short wait, I understand that it is because a previous patient was late or their appointment ran long (probably because they had several questions). I also try to be considerate by being respectful of other patient's and Dr. Maciulla and her staff's time. For example, if I call to make an appointment for a pap smear, I don't expect her to go in depth into my medical history. If I want to have a consultation or talk about something specific, then I try to be clear when I make the appointment. Also, I have a general practitioner for the non ob-gyn related matters. There are several other providers closer to me, but I make the 25+ mile drive to her office because Dr Maciulla and her team are worth it.

I write in response to Liz' complaint. Liz arrived 20 minutes late on a Monday afternoon and expected to be seen right away. The two patients who had appointments after her were already in the office. They were seen first as they arrived for their appointments on time. Since Liz did not want to wait, she decided not to be seen so she was charged a no show visit. This was her choice. Most doctors would have charged her and not even agreed to see her. At least Dr. Maciulla agreed to stay after hours to accommodate her tardiness.

not worth it there are good dr's out there with better business ethics. I did arrive a few minutes late but they overbook giving just 15 minutes between appointments. So waiting is a given. I was waiting there for 1 hr and still was not seen. Had to leave couldn't wait no more. I explained my reason for leaving they did not care. I still got charged the $75. I explained isn't there a one exception rule. They didn't care. They have no compasion. A dr's office with no compassion. granted my reason for going that day was not just for my routine schedule but to get tested for infertility. I have been trying to have kids for a while now. No compassion.

After my first appt. with Dr. Maciulla & despite me noting numerous health issues that I have on the info form, she didn't inquire about any of them (heart diesese, diabetes, cancer, etc). She only mentioned my 2 listed pregnancies, but never gave me a chance to speak. I had all I could do to squeeze in my question about getting my pap test results, which the front desk gave me a card stapled to my receipt & I was told to read the directions on it. When I asked for an extra card, I was told I already was given one.

PROS: She did the pap
CONS: She was task-oriented to do my pap and nothing else.

I, too, lucked into becoming a patient of Dr. Maciulla's through a change of insurance. Since then I've recommended her to several friends. She's funny, patient, friendly and puts you immediately at ease. She cuts to the chase and talks to you like an educated human being. The nurses and office staff are every bit as friendly and accomodating as Dr. Maciulla is. I never thought I'd see the day when I didn't dread a visit to the gyn!

Here is the Dr. that most women dream of. She is a wonderful listener and has never dismissed any of my concerns or questions. Even when they are minor. The office staff is very accomodating and I usually never have an unreasonable wait. She's been written up in The Washingtonian as a suberb doctor.

PROS: Caring service
CONS:

I had to switch insurances so picked this doc based on some friends recommendations. She was great-super down to earth, easy to talk to. I had alot of questions for her and she answered all of them. She had a short wait before hand, but nothing too bad
