Heroes often appear in the midst of crises or in the seconds, minutes, and hours thereafter. They step in when you least expect them to, and without hesitation or thinking about themselves, but of others. We read moving articles about them in the morning newspaper and watch dramatic stories about them on the evening news - the firefighter who saves a baby from a burning building, the soldier who saves a comrade from enemy fire, the police officer who saves a citizen from danger, and so many others. They are all heroes and are all worthy of honor and recognition.

Heroes are all around us. I'm sure you know one or know of one. I would like to tell you about a hero you probably don't know. Her name is Dr. Lynn Margolies, a psychologist in private practice in Newton Centre, Massachsetts and a former Havard Medical School faculty and fellow.

After learning my child had been exposed to something that could have had a detrimental effect, I went on-line trying to find information or someone who could help me. I stumbled across a column written by Dr. Margolies, which focused on the issue my family and I were dealing with, and immediately thought, "Wow! She gets it!"

Filled with fear, anxiety, and hope, I called Project Interface and a wonderful young woman answered the phone. After sharing my concern, my contact information was given to Dr. Margolies. I was surprised, not only by how quickly she responded, but by the fact that she called at all. Dr. Margolies didn't know me, but she knew my situation was urgent, and knew I was a desperate mom in dire need of help.

Without hesitation, Dr. Margolies rolled up her sleeves and went to work offering assistance that saved me and my family from a scary situation. She didn't stop there. Dr. Margolies made follow-up calls and stayed in constant contact making sure everything was going well with my family.

I found Dr. Margolies to be very professional, ethical, caring, nurturing, personable, knowledgeable, likeable, just a wonderful human being - talk about a credit to her profession. In my opinion, Dr. Margolies is the epitome of what a psychologist should be. If a hero is someone who saves another from danger or from a scary situation, Dr. Margolies is definitely a hero - my hero - for that I am eternally grateful and appreciative for what she did for me and my family.

.

I am very grateful for the dedicated help I have gotten from Dr.Margolies. I interviewed a lot of other therapists before I picked her. She saved my relationship and helped me change the direction of my life .

I was a member of her one of her men's groups and seeing her for individual sessions. She is totally down to earth and different from other therapists. Alot of times it feels almost like she is one of the guys. The guys in the group are all in therapy with her and it was obvious to see how much better they got over time in their relationships and work. We all like her and respect her. She seems comfortable and real with us and smart. She is very engaged and responsive.

Lynn listens intently in a way that is very comforting and says things back that put words to what I feel but didn't realize it till it was put that way. I have also referred friends to her and we all are are happy with the help we have gotten and thankful.
