.

Was referred to Dr. Baweja due to severe iron deficiency and separate anemia issues-- for possible iron infusion and/or bone marrow biopsy as well as for a specific bone marrow biopsy recommended by Mayo Clinic for mast cell disease. At the first appt., Dr. Baweja scheduled me for an iron infusion and said she could do the mast cell biopsy. A few days later when I came in for the iron infusion, I ended up having a severe reaction to it. Amidst the reaction and emergency care for it, Dr. Baweja was summoned. To the shock of both me and the the staff, rather than help, she stood by and actually informed me she would not do any type of bone marrow biopsy and indicated (the reaction I was having to the infusion contributing to things) that she would not provide care for me anymore after my follow-up appt. My GP spoke with Dr. Baweja and said Dr. B agreed to continue care and would prescribe iron supplements for me. When I called to reschedule the time for my follow-up appt, however, I was told Dr. B would no longer see me because my iron sat had reached 1 point over normal, that my appointment was being cancelled, that she would not do the biopsy, that she would not prescribe a supplement, etc. I was told she advised that I just keep taking the same supplements which had failed me previously--no advice on more effective supplements/forms or other advice regarding my blood issues. My GP feels I still need hematology care, but Dr. Baweja refused to continue care or recommend anyone else and my iron/anemia/biopsy needs continue. My GP has had to prescribe the iron and monitor my continued blood issues herself until I am able to find another hematologist. Dr. Baweja left me hanging with no options, alternatives or answers.
