I've been a patient with this practice for years. Unfortunately, during that time I've seen the practice turn from a medical office to a profit driven business.

1. Attention and Competency of Medical Staff: Dr. Sanchez is in and out the door as quickly as she can be. If you have any questions or concerns about your condition, have them ready before she comes in and be poised to grab her before she runs out the door.

The PA, Kelsey, is much nicer but extremely inexperienced. I went in for red bumps and she told me they were bed bug bites. She did a biopsy to confirm the results of which wouldn't be back for a while. In the meantime, I had an exterminator bomb my place which cost $500. When the office finally called with the results, it wasn't beg bugs. It was hives. Her misdiagnosis cost me $600 in exterminator bills.

2. $$$$$ - Making money from you is the mission of this office (rather than providing quality medical care). They push their own products on you which are not covered by insurance and are rather expensive (compared to over the counter products or rxns covered by insurance). Once I bought their sunscreen, which came in a regular sized bottle, but when the bottle ran out with in a few weeks, I saw that there was actually only one ounce of sunscreen in the bottle. The bottle was designed to look like there was 3x as much product in it than there actually was. It cost $40.

Once I went in for a regular check up, and mentioned that I had some acne on my forehead that wouldn't go away. The doctor said she could get rid of those if I wanted. I said sure and the doctor popped them which took 2 minutes. Later I got a bill that listed the procedure as "surgery" with a charge of $100/whitehead popped.

Another time, I went in to pick up a product (that I had been using) and was completely bamboozled. Rather than just giving it to me, their anesthetician came out and said she could take care of me but I should follow her in the back so we could speak with more privacy. Next thing you know she has the PA in with us and I got a bill a few weeks later for an office visit.

Also for the appointment when the PA misdiagnosed me, I was charged $500. When she suggested I get a biopsy, I asked if the procedure would be fully covered. (After the incident with the acne, I thought I should check.) Both the nurse and the doctor said it would be covered. A few weeks later, I got the bill. When I called the office with the complaint, I was told that none of the staff would have said that.

3. Support Big Pharma Companies - Whenever they give me a rxn for something, it's always for a new drug the pharma companies are pushing where no generic is available. They give me a coupon but this always creates problems for me with the pharmacy and involves multiple calls with the pharmacy, activating the coupon card, giving my info to pharma companies, calls between the pharmacy and my derm office. The last time I begged them to give me something that was available in a generic. They said there wasn't anything. The rxn was for acne, not some rare disease.

I know Dr. Berk has been listed in Chicago Mag in peer reviewed surveys as a good doctor. However, I wonder how his peers are evaluating him. I saw him when I first started going there, but after the initial appointment, I was consistently told his schedule was full and was quickly passed off to other docs in the practice.

I have been treated by Dr. Berk for the past three months and I could not recommend this staff enough! The treatments that have been provided to me have turned my life around!

Dr. Berk is very sensitive to the emotional needs as well as the medical needs of his patients.

I cannot recommend Dr. Berk and The Skin Care Center highly enough. I have suffered from cystic acne since I was 17 years old. After 18 years of treatment from 7 different highly recommended Chicago area dermatologists, I am FINALLY acne free after being treated by Dr. Berk for 6 months. He is patient and listened carefully to my history of countless prescription antibiotics, topicals, and oral meds from dermatologists over the years. He prescribed a few new meds that I had never heard of (tough to do since I have taken almost everything out there). I'm a bit of a health nut and Dr. Berk understood my resistance to using hormones (i.e. birth control pills) and/or Accutane (linked to very serious side effects). He recommended levulan photodynamic therapy and after only 2 treatments, my acne is GONE. My skin has now been clear for 1 month which has not happened since I was 16 years old. I only wish I had known of Dr. Berk years ago...the pain, frustration, and money I could have saved during all those wasted years. I should also mention that Dr. Berk's Glenview office staff members (Cecilia and Susan in particular) are an absolute joy to deal with and approach their work with professionalism and caring. This is an outstanding dermatology practice. I understand Dr. Berk also has offices in Lake Forest and Lincoln Park (Chicago).

I have been a client/patient at the Skin Care Center in Glenview over two years. I have received factual and honest diagnosis and treatment for my concern which is Vitiligo. As important as honesty, diagnosis and treatment are the care provided by the administrative staff such as Susan Engelheart is outstanding. The weight of a skin condition can be devastating depending on who you are problem and severity. Susan Engelheart provides the treatment, care and urgency and we all look for as a client and patient. In addition Susan follows through on all that "paperwork" that very few understand!

GREAT! Dr. Berk and his staff are a very professional group. Psoriasis is a very difficult disease to treat, but Dr. Berk and his recommendations have made an enormous difference in my skin. I have recommended him to family members of all ages and to friends, everyone has been very satisfied. He is a very caring individual and always makes you feel comfortable and he is very patient about answering questions.

i broke out with a large zit on my cheek day before my wedding . My maid of honor called several dermatologists to get me in on the same day. They all had a waiting list! A neighbor told me about Dr. Berk.I called the office and Tara the receptionist let me immediately talk to the nurse and I was able to explain my situation. The nurse was very understanding and fit me in the schedule within 4 hours. Dr. Berk injected the pimple and even gave me a sample of something to use. He was very pleasant. and the injection really made a difference. I highly recommend this office!!!

Went to the glenview office, and felt like I was in a spa. This place rocks!!! Susan at the front desk was a delight. Saw Dr. Berk and he diagnosed me after asking a few questions. He game me ample time to explain things and didn't rush me out the door. Also took 2 moles off ,painlessly.
Cecilia the nurse was awesome! She explained everything in detail and gave me free sunscreen samples. I truly felt pampered. In fact , I am going back in 2 weeks. I actually got his name out of Chicago Magazine as a top doc and can't believe Igot an appt so soon. Great Experience. I Recommend him to all of my friends!!!
