I found the medical work good. But my experience with bill-related customer service was disappointing:

I called before my visit and explained clearly that I had debris in my eye, and would be paying for my visit out of pocket with no insurance and wanted a complete understanding of costs.

I was told the office visit would be $100 - $130. I asked again if removing debris, or additional treatment is extra? They said no, the complete visit would be covered at the office visit fee, and reiterated that it would be somewhere between $100 to $130.

So after the completion of my visit I was handed a bill for $208. $140 office visit, plus $98 for removing debris from eye, with a $30 cash discount. So total bill was $208.

I understand that different services may have a cost associated with them, which is why I made the effort to understand the total cost up front. They defended the bill by saying that if I went to a hospital I would be paying $1200. Huh? Were they trying to justify the situation by explaining that a hospital charges more for something similar?

I would have been willing to walk away a satisfied customer if they had provided a genuine apology for the miscommunication about costs. But the feedback that I'd pay a lot more at a hospital and a tone that I found unhelpful and unapologetic leaves me disappointed with their bill-related customer service.

As for the eye-related part of my visit, my eye is considerably improved, and I was satisfied with the treatment. However my experience with customer service I found poor when trying to discuss the bill left me with an overall bad experience.

Cons: I experienced bad customer service

My first time getting my eyes evaluated and I walked out of there feeling screwed. Was borderline needing glasses - but told my eyes will just get worse without them. Also was told I needed to buy their overpriced glasses vs. just get a prescription - AND amongst all the regular doctor papers you sign - you apparently sign something that says you are not eligible for a refund, order change, or anything of the sort.

I will never go back there again.

Pros: Doctor can match glasses well to your needs.

Cons: FORCED to buy glasses there, no refunds, bitchy staff

I was very happy with my visit to Dr Cohn. He was very professional and friendly, as was the staff. I have referred a couple of people to him and they were pleased as well. With other eye doctors in the past, I have felt rushed or that my questions were not being answered - but this exam was very thorough. They even did this "eye-scan" (don't know what it is called) which shows a 360 degree view of the inside of your eye - way cool, and a nice alternative to having your eyes dialated. They also spent a lot of time helping me choose the right glasses. I will definitely go back to Dr Cohn!

V1: Not highly unusual - lack of explanation regarding charges incurred. V2: My glasses took 4-5 days longer to arrive. I was tended to by an optician impatient w/ my questions. Dr. was on vacation, unbeknownst to me, so an extra appt was made. V3: Most unpleasant. Arrived on time & no staff checked me in. While not typically alarming, it came back to haunt me... I was repeatedly told to wait "just a few min." for the next 50 min. (during my lunch hr)! After awhile, I asked if I should resched. for a time when Dr. could see me. Responding defensively, she (recept.) explained of an unexpected delay w/ another patient who had an appt during mine & according to their clock when I checked in, I arrived late! Regardless, I finally saw the doctor. If you're a VSP patient, I would only recommend this office for convenience.

Pros: Convenient Location, VSP Provider, Family Practice

Cons: Office Staff Attitude, Poor Customer Service, Appt length/wait time
