My visit to Massage Heights (on 4/24/2014), in which I was treating my best friend with a day of relaxation. This was such a disappointing experience for my friend and me. The rooms were lovely and the waiting room was classy, but that is all that I can say was positive. When I called to make the appointment, it was for a special occasion for my best friend (and I joined in), I asked for a 2-hour massage AND a 1-hour facial. The massage was only 1 3/4 hour, not 2. Even worse, they did not provide us with the scheduled facial. When I pointed that out at the end I was told, ma'am you didn't schedule that. Which is bull**** because I made the appointment while I was with my friend and I was given a verbal confirmation from the salon while on the phone. I am so seriously disappointed. I could have gotten a wonderful massage for 1/2 the price right down the road. The ONLY reason I chose this location was so that we could have a full spa day which was to include the facial. To top it off, no one offered us ANY solutions to the incredibly disappointing experience. I thought for sure they would have provided a discount (since I paid over $200 on our massages) or offered us a voucher to come back for the facial that they failed to provide to us. I would strongly encourage others to avoid this place as well. I will be posting this on every website that I can post a review. It was such a disaster that I couldnt even get anyone to listen to me, to try to remedy situation, but instead the staff were completely unapologetic, and even more unprofessional, and instead of assisting me in order to remedy this nightmare they decided it would be time better spent laughing and cracking jokes about their boyfriends/dates while I was standing there feeling like a fool because I had promised my friend the 2 hour massage and the 1 hour facial. I will never go back to Massage Heights and I will pass this information on to my friends and family so they know that this place is not worth it since they cant even fulfill their scheduled appointment. It was absolutely the worst $260 (including the tip).

Being a massage therapist myself I have checked into working for massage heights. Now the up side for the therapists working in such places are no overhead costs, no supply purchase, and they do offer medical benefits, the down side is they only pay 15 dollars an hour in Iowa (where I practice) which seems to be the standard in the area because that's what massage envy offers also. To Think of your massage therapist at a chain massage therapy provider just as a doctor or physical therapist is fine so long as you expect to pay as much as 70 to 100 dollars an hour. However, when you're only paying 40 to 50 dollars an hour leaving a 10 to 20 dollar tip is reasonable and I'm sure very appreciated because it brings a 15 dollar massage to a 25 to 35 dollar massage.

It's a shame that i see people focusing on the the need to leave a gratuity here, it's a franchise, I get it, there is no way they could charge so little and still pay these therapists what they need to make in order to live. So what I save on my massage price I make up in a tip, like when you get a discount at a resturant. I tip just as much and it's a win win for both I and the waiter/waitress! I pay $50 a month for an incredible massage ( I do have a favorite therapist) AND I am more than happy to leave a $10+ tip because I know that anywhere else I go would be at least $60 (that isn't even considering the high end spas that will charge up to $200 per hour!),
I wish more people would consider tipping this way too.

I totally agree with the comment made just before this one. The "suggested" tipping is really rude. They have a sign in the bathroom on the suggested amounts but it's based on "fair market value price" for a massage which they are showing as twice what their massages cost. So, basically you are supposed to base your tip on an inflated price. This could come out to be $25 -25. Hmmm, don't think so. To me, a massage is more closely related to a medical profession than being a waitress (no offense at all intended for wait staff!) but I don't tip my dental assistant, dental hygienist, physical therapist, etc.
I did join for a year, I do like the massages, seems like a nice & clean place, but I DO NOT like feeling pressured to leave a tip.
That's my 2 cents worth!!

I recently went here for a massage a couple of weeks ago. The price was right (first time customer special was $40), but there are SEVERAL signs posted regarding how much $ to tip for the massage. It was too much, and frankly, I think it was rude. The massage wasn't great at all, I kept asking for more pressure, but it was like a butterfly was massaging me. So, when I went to pay, I did not feel like tipping their 15-20% of $80, but you feel extremely guilty when the receptionist asks out loud (in front of other clients in the waiting area) , "how much for a tip?" IMO-they need to make it discreet so you can add it yourself on the credit card receipt.

The deal with massage heights is that they want you to become a member and pay a monthly membership fee. Then, you get cheaper massages.
