I began taking Pilates Method classes in March 1994. While I was attracted to the goal of a toned body, increased upper body strength, greater flexibility and strong abs, I had a more compelling reason- a frozen shoulder. I had just completed five weeks of physical therapy and realized that it would take a long range program to restore pain free mobility. I have accomplished that plus a great deal more. I have greatly improved a chronic lower back problem, increased flexibility and toned and improved my figure. The Pilates Method is a thinking persons exercise which takes total concentration and commitment. It continues to be challenging and very rewarding. Thanks to Matthew Comer Pilates

Starting pilates with Matthew Comer Pilates in 2009 was one of the best things I've ever done for myself! As a professional athlete, it's important for me to not only train the most basic muscle groups but the smaller, connective muscles that support them. Working with Matthew has made such a huge difference in my snowboarding. I'm so flexible now that grabs that used to give me trouble have become a breeze! My posture has improved, I have definition in my lower abs, and my balance is better than ever before. Matthew is the best.

I now understand that unlike so many other physical pursuits, the Pilates Method is not in any way stressful or injurious to joints. The wonderful sequential warm up is both safe and effective, as well as emotionally/physically centering. Both the system and the instructor help the student to focus inwardly, calmly working on centering and alignment while increasingly intensifying demands on the body to increase flexibility, stretch and strength. I am still astonished that I seem to be able to work successfully(at my level) in dance class, even after long absences. I definitely attribute this to the effects of Pilates Method work.

Just wanted to let you all know how much I'm enjoying Pilates...I think you give me my money's worth because of the care you take to make sure the exercises are done correctly. I never worry about hurting myself. I'm seeing progress and feeling much stronger. Thanks Matthew Comer Pilates.

Matthew Comer was my personal trainer for 3 years. We met 2-3 times a week for regular training sessions of 60-90 minutes. Her intense and dedicated fitness routines have yielded extraordinary physical and mental results. I can honestly say that he changed my life. I lost over 40 lbs and gained strength, agility, fitness and a lot of self-confidence.

I have a chronic back problem which persisted through several courses of physical therapy, and for which spinal fusion surgery has been recommended. I asked my doctor, Dr Jung Yoo, Chair of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at OHSU, if there were any nonsurgical options he could recommend. He suggested I try Pilates for at least several months. I started three times a week at Matthew Comer Pilates, never having done Pilates before, and have seen real improvement in my strength, balance, walking ability, and overall fitness level. My back pain has decreased significantly. The studio is spotlessly clean, beautiful, and serene, and the instructors are seriously terrific.

Six months ago I was shocked to learn I had the beginning stages of Osteoporosis. Since exercise is a major key to preventing bone loss, I resolved to improve my exercise routine. My goals were to increase my weight bearing exercise and strengthen my core muscles? this led me to Matthew Comer Pilates. It is equipped with a large variety of Pilates equipment which helps make the workout new and challenging. Matthew is a very knowledgeable and caring instructor? his sessions are fun and I enjoy the time I am there. I have made good progress: increased energy, stronger core muscles and better posture just to name a mention a few improvements.
