Sadly, I had an extremely poor experience with Dr. Gleckman. I had been depressed for seven years and severely depressed (completely unable to function) for one year when I started seeing him. All appointments were 30 minutes or less. He saw me just twice the first month, then three times the second month, four times the third, two times the fourth, and one time per month thereafter. Since I stopped going to him I have learned from other mental health care professionals that both the length and the frequency of my appointments were horribly inadequate given my severe condition. Also, he was to assess me for disability at the end of eight months of treatment. One month before the assessment, my wife and I asked him what he was going to recommend. He told us to rest easy, that he would be recommending total disability. When he filled out my paperwork the following month, he not only failed to recommend total disability as he had told us to our faces he would, but he actually recommended reinstatement to FULL-TIME work with just two minor restrictions. At my final appointment, we interviewed him to ask what happened. What he said was irrational and he contradicted himself often. Other professionals have since told me that he acted unprofessionally in a number of other ways as well with me and my wife. For example, I left voice messages for him to call me on four different occasions over a three-week period of time because I was suicidal. At one point during that period I actually overdosed on medications. He did not return a single one of those four calls. This is not only unprofessional, but it endangered my life and obviously the future of my wife and children. Such "care" is reckless, dangerous and could have resulted in the death of his patient as well as untold lifelong trauma for his patient's wife and children. I am still trying to recover from the trauma of not having my psychotherapist there for me when I needed him most. I have since moved on to another therapist who seems to actually care about me as a person. I strongly recommend you steer away from Dr. Gleckman if you are severely depressed and instead seek care elsewhere.
