As someone who has historically required special measures to keep from passing out after a simple Novocain shot, I do not do well with dental work. Dr. Zak, however, was very upbeat and made me entirely comfortable. This was all the more important since my 10-year-old also had to have two extractions. Although my son has definitely grasped the importance of brushing and flossing, it's great to know that he won't have to go through life afraid of the dentist.

After a costly month of work to fix urgent issues I was concerned to find that the solution to a problem I've been having with clinching & grinding would be a $500 mouth guard. While I could clearly see in the x-rays what the clinching (in conjunction with Rheumatoid Arthritis and all of its pharmaceutical trimmings) was doing to my teeth and ligaments I simply could not afford any further expense. I am so grateful to Dr. Zak for suggesting a $20 alternative from which he would gain no benefit.

I recognize that after a decade of Prednisone to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis with no end in sight I'm looking at a future of bone and joint problems -- much of which will directly impact my mouth and jaw. I am so glad to have found a compassionate and experienced health partner that I feel I can depend on going forward.

Thank you, Dr. Zak!

I had a back molar causing me incredible pain so I went to a dentist . The pain radiated on my left side jaw, so the dentist couldnt tell if it was the top molar or the bottom & NOT impacted. The dentist took x-rays and referred me to Dr. Zak's office. The dentist got me in immediately for an emergency visit. I drove straight there.I asked for an ice pack because I was in so much pain. It hurt so bad I couldn't even cry becasue it would make my jaw muscles move. The receptionist took my information she told me that the price to pull a molar starts at $185.00 and can go to around $400 depending on the difficulty it takes to pull it. I told her I only had $80.00 on me, and I asked her to ask Dr. Zak if I could pay the rest on Friday. She sent me to the waiting room for about 10 min. and then she called me back into the office side and said that she talked to him, and since I didn't have around $400 on me that he said "NO". She told me he said he would do a consultation. I didn't NEED a consultation! I was there to have a tooth pulled! I brought him my x-rays from the dentist but since Dr. Zak couldn't tell what tooth it was he numbed just the top back molar with Novicaine to see if the pain went away. The pain went away and he told me it looked like a very easy extraction.
I asked him: "Can you please just pull it...I always pay my bills and I can't go away like this...it's even hard to see straight to drive home." And he said: "No, we've been down that road with other people who say the same thing and never pay." I had $200 dollars so I was thinking it could be an easy extraction and cost $185 but he said : "You keep asking me the same question and the answer I give you is going to be the same "NO". I could not believe this was happening! He said that it looked like an easy extraction. He wanted me to have at least $400 bucks. I just wanted it over so I called a friend to come down. My dear friend Ms. Santina Litturi, retired D.D.S. One of the 1st women dentists' in Chicago, she is 86 years old, and knew Dr. Zak. He was about to get a big surprise...she's a fire-cracker! The receptionist went and told him my "friend" was on the way there to take care of it. Even though he knew my friend was on the way he still didn't pull it he made me wait in pain. Dr. Litturi was there in about 15 minutes but Zak told me he had to get out of there because they we're closing. He said he had to go to a patient in the hospital who needed some dental work. HELLO... I'm a patient standing right in front of you now scared and in tears! Then the receptionist says: "Okay it's 50 bucks for the consult". Dr. Zak began to say that he could squeeze me in, and pull it at 10am the next morning. When Dr. Litturi got there he turned pale and then red, looking like he was going to faint. She gave him a piece of her mind (She was 86 years old) I counted how long it took to pull it. It was 45 seconds AND came out in one peice.
I went to the front desk it was $225.00 I can't believe what an insincere, heartless, money hungry dentist that Dr. Michael Zak is. He is a disgrace to the letters D.D.S. He IS one of "those" dentists that gives other dentists bad names. There are 3 other dentists in this office that are going to be losing patients, and not getting new patients because Dr. Zak is giving Associates For Oral, Maxillofacial and Implant Surgery Ltd. a very bad name. What Dr. Zak did was so wrong, and I will post this story again everywhere I can in hopes that he doesn't get the chance to treat someone else like he treated me. And to the patients that go to Dr. Zak who DO always have all upfront money...just remember that he is smiling and being nice to you because "money" is all he wants. He IS NOT a man with a heart or compassion for any of his patients.
Dr. Zak might as well have just walked into the room and say:
"I will not pull your tooth unless you have at least $400 dollars in your purse...and even though I told you it looks like an easy extraction, I have the intention of charging you more than $185.00 OR even $200".
