I recently changed dental providers due to a change in insurance, and selected Dr Spencer. I had a dental cleaning, and he recommended a crown due to a large filling and fractures in my tooth. The first step of the crown procedure was a bit time consuming, and I've been waiting well over a month for the permanent crown. We are going out of town for Christmas, and if this isn't remedied in the next 2 days, I'll be waiting another 2 weeks. Everyone I've ever talked to said this process usually takes 7-10 days, and this extended time has been very uncomfortable and frustrating. I've paid up front and have little negotiating power. I'm at their mercy.
Otherwise, the office is very outdated and low budget. Equipment is very dated. They use paper towels instead of drapes. The hygienist was young and pleasant, but seemed exceeding new at her job. The dentist is older, and talks incessantly about his personal matters (a friend diagnosed with cancer, and a funeral he' s attending this evening). They use a very hard sell technique on dental appliances. The phone often rings without an answer and it's been difficult to reach anyone by telephone on nearly every occasion I've called. I'm changing dentists the moment this is resolved.

I arrived late (17 minutes) to my and my four kids' cleaning appointments after calling ahead to let them know. They took one of my girls almost immediately but made the next kid wait 30 minutes. Strange since they had called me before I got there and hinted that I was going to lose some of my appointments because I was late. About 45 minutes after I got there, a couple arrived for cleaning appointments. They waited maybe 5 minutes and then were both called back into the exam rooms. I protested when the second person was called, pointing out that I had been there much longer, etc., but the receptionist said that they only had a child appointment, and my two teenagers hadn't arrived yet. I said, a child's appointment? My daughter's eighteen. Why would it take longer to clean my teeth than hers? Besides, what did it matter what order we went in? She didn't have an answer for that, but said something about asking the hygienist if they could "work" me in. (I thought having an appointment meant I didn't have to be "worked in"). After another 10 minutes, my second child was finished and they informed me that they didn't have time to do the remaining 3 of us. I had made those appointments six months in advance so I wouldn't have to miss much work. I had been courteous enough to let them know where I was and when I'd be there. They had made me wait a long time to see the hygienist on previous occasions, and I never complained. They also had cancelled my appointments twice in the past year, for THEIR convenience. I've never in my life had a doctor or dentist refuse to honor an appointment. You'd have to look pretty hard to find a more unprofessional, uncooperative, and lazy crew than Dr. Spencer's staff.
