I don't know how to rate Dr. Bessos. He was our second pediatrician and my daughter saw him from age 4 months to age 4 1/2. When we first went to his office I was very impressed with his care and the way he handled my daughter. Then when she was 2 she got sick and developed a chronic cough that antibiotics or cough medicine didn't improve. After 4 months of her being in the office every 3-4 weeks due to not improving I asked for allergy testing. He said they couldn't do it until she was 4. The next time we came in we saw his nurse practitioner who sent us immediately for allergy blood testing. It came back with many allergies, some very severe. She was also diagnosed with asthma (thus the cough) at that time and given albuterol liquid. His NP referred us to an allergy/immunologist who did a skin "prick" test and it came back with the same results as the initial blood test, and agreed with the diagnosis of asthma. that was 2006

In Sept 2007 she came down with bronchitis. Dr prescribed an antibiotic, we followed up in 10 days he said she was fine. 2 weeks later she wakes up and has very rapid shallow breathing. My mother in law who is an RN took her in to the dr, and they administered a neb. treatment in the office. After 2 treatments he said to take her to the hospital with an acute asthma attack. An hour later I met my daughter at the ER. She got in fairly quickly because her o2 saturation was at 85%. She was immediately put on 2l of oxygen and after x-ray was diagnosed with double pneumonia and had to be transferred down to palm beach and spent 3 days in the PICU.

6 months later she presented again with bronchitis, had a follow up, was fine. 2 weeks later again had her in the office coz her breathing is very rapid... they gave her a neb. treatment in the office and sent us home (WITHOUT any prescriptions for breathing meds). 6 hours later she was worse and ended up taking her to the ER again... Pneumonia in her right lung.

I stopped taking her to Dr. Bessos after that. He never once prescribed her asthma or allergy medication although she was diagnosed with both... FROM HIS OFFICE and confirmed by a specialist who sent a letter to his office to direct Dr. Bessos office about rxing her meds.

Dr. Bessos is my son's second pediatrician. When we lived in the palm beaches we went to a different doctor that took care of my son from birth til age 1. For the first three months we were in the doctors office literally every week. My son would not nurse or drink from a bottle. The doctor even went so far as to recommend a tube be inserted for feeding. After three weeks of force feeding our newborn with a dropper we went to see Dr. Bessos who was recommended by a friend. Dr. Bessos took five minutes to look at him and diagnosed an arched pallette. All we had to do was make sure the nipple of the bottle touched the roof of his mouth and he would start drinking. After we moved to port st lucie we began seeing him regularly and our son has stayed healthy. Dr. Bessos and his staff are wonderful and I could care less what his furniture looks like. It is the quality of his care that brings me back. As far as cleanliness goes, I have yet to see any issues. The office is dated but dated does not indicate a problem with cleanliness.

I found his office VERY dirty. Fire ants on the window sills. Stained furniture in the rooms, along with outdoor furniture in the waiting area with nothing for the children to play with or watch. The quality of care was absolete. checked my childs heart and lungs and sent us on our way. I went once, and wouldn't go back. As for talkative? I think he said three words while I was in there.

He is excellent!! I have seen him 4-5 times with both of my kids and he's been great. The office staff is wonderful. I got right in and right out. He is very "talkative" and wants to know whats going on exactly! The office is very slow with referrals but otherwise overall very good.

PROS: great office
CONS: referrals...
