Dr. Sims delivered my first and second babies. I was determined to have an all-natural delivery with my first, but was continually asked if I needed pain meds once I went into labor. After 4 hours of labor, I was told I had to be put on pitocin when things weren't progressing fast enough. After a very fast pitocin augmented labor I became fully dilated and effaced and started pushing, still happily med-free. At 5pm I had been at the hospital for a total of 8 1/2 hours and we could see and touch our baby's head. But Dr. Sims said, between contractions, that I was now considered FTP (failure to progress) and a c-section was my safest option. I trusted his judgment and consented. When we became pregnant again, my second baby was another c-section because the implication was that it would be the safest option with such a "big baby." I'm happy to say we planned a home birth for our third baby and had the most amazing home VBAC after two c-sections (for our largest baby, yet). While I am grateful for three healthy babies, I now know how much easier it could have been had I not been rushed through labor so quickly with pitocin and fearfully coerced into two unnecessary c-sections.

If you are a very high-risk patient, Dr. Sims is excellent at detecting various pregnancy concerns and risks, at estimating baby size, and at administering medications, tests, and performing top-notch c-sections. But if you're low-risk and hoping for the safest natural birth possible, I would not recommend using him or this facility. Always do your research before setting foot in any OB's office (i.e. find out c-section rate, whether they're VBAC-friendly, etc.) and don't be afraid to interview them before committing to using their services.

Dr. Sims gives excellent care. Although he is not very talkative, he gets right to the point. I like the fact that he saves all conversation until you are in his office in a more comfortable setting. He does not recommend radical treatments until he has exhausted more conservative treatments first.
