I have been going to Eye Care of LJ for several years, in-spite of the numerous errors with prescriptions and with their vendors who make lenses. I kept going back because they are one of the very few optometrists who sell Lindberg frames.

Each visit 2008/2009 and 2011 resulted in several errors which caused delays and inconvenience. Two years/visits in a row - wrong Rx lead to lenses being made incorrectly. And, two years/visits in a row, their lens provider - the high end and super expensive Zeiss made the lenses with defects, or made them so they did not fit the frames correctly. .

This practice is nothing short of a disaster. Dr. Michelson is my ophthalmologist and Robert is the resident optician. In 2009, my Rx was incorrect leading to the creation of lenses that were wrong. Additionally, the high end, high priced Zeiss product was incorrectly manufactured, so between Eye Care of La Jolla and Zeiss, my $700 lenses took forever to arrive correctly. The eye exam is administered by Dr. Michelson's assistant.

Two years later, in 2011 and the same errors happened again. A poorly executed eye test, led to incorrect an incorrect Rx, which led to an incorrect lens created by Zeiss. But even before I realized that the prescription was incorrect, Zeiss flubs the manufacturing of the lens and delivers a left and right lens that don't fit in the frame the same way. The lens' get redone twice - once due to a Zeiss error, and once due to the Rx being incorrect. Robert is a nice guy, but essentially excused the errors by saying that eye exams are "subjective". Perhaps they are somewhat, but in 20 years of getting eye exams, prescriptions and glasses, I never had successive years of errors like I have at Eye Care of La Jolla. Both in 2009 and in 2011 Robert re-tested my eyes and discovered that the original prescriptions were incorrect.

This year, I began the process in early July and finally received my regular glasses in mid Sept., and my sunglasses this week (October). Lenses were $1000 for my regular glasses (no frames). Lenses for my sunglasses were $599. (again no frames). These high prices combined with this pathetic delivery of service (from both Zeiss and Eye Care of La Jolla), makes we want to run in the opposite direction. NEVER AGAIN. I'm Done. By the way, took make amends for my 8 trips and 3+ months of hassles, Dr. Michelson offered me $25 off my $1300 bill. Nice eh?

Look elsewhere - there are lot's of great eye care service providers in town.
