After being diagnosed with a defected eye after surgery, I decided to give this place a try. The so-called colored contact specialist must have her own vision blocked by fake blue contacts, and cannot cordinate color too well. She tried to convince us, after waiting 4 months, and paying $1200 for one lens, that the colors were a perfect match. Not only were they different in color, but it was also mis-aligned, and made my eye look very droopy. When I complained about it, they said there was nothing else that they can do. They continually tried to convince me that it looked great. Save your money, and look up other websites, that charge a lot less, and give you the best service. It comes out cheaper, getting your measurements from a private Doctor, and dealing with the lab directly. They overcharge and could not care less about customer satisfaction.

STAY AWAY!! Extremely unfriendly and unprofessional staff - i recieved my trial contacts and werent happy with them. I called them 4 times and everytime I recieved a "we will call you back" response which never happened. I finally had to drop by to get help! If you dont want to be frustrated move onto a different place

I have been to a few eye doctors and optometric offices over the years because I have really bad vision. Thought I would take the time to give Studio Optix a very positive comment because of the excellent service and eye care I received. Dr. Cassel is amazing , and so is the entire staff.!!
They took my insurance and I was well aware of the out of pocket expense if I wanted additional testing(very impressive ,progressive high tech office).
They have an unbelievable selection of frames,which the staff helped to select and make it very easy.I love the eyeglasses and Love Studio Optix...and I will definitely be back!!

Went there to get my eyes checked because my insurer (Davis Vision) covers eye exams and certain contacts and glasses. They charged me $150 for the eye exam--so far so good. But then charged me $115 for a contact lens fitting fee (which my insurance doesn't cover) that basically consisted of the optometrist giving me a few sample contact lenses. $115 for two weeks' worth of samples! Then the optometrist wants me to return the following week for a follow-up appointment to see which contacts I like. So you want to bill me $115 for several sample contact lenses and then try to bill my insurer (or me) by setting up a follow-up appointment? If that doesn't sound like a scam, nothing is. FYI, my old optometrist never charged me this nonsense contact lens fitting fee. It's essentially a way for optometrists to scam more money from you.

Suffice it to say, I will never go back there, and I don't recommend anyone else to either.

I am a 1st time wearer of glasses and finding the right pair for my face was important. I went to a few places in NYC, but this by far was the best place because they have overall a wide variety of unique frames. I get a lot of compliments wearing my new frames.

I went here b/c they are supposed to have an awesome frame selection, and are in my VSP network. However the frames are all in drawers, making it hard to browse. A staff member was hovering over me, not letting me open the drawers on my own. When I asked to try on frames, I felt like it was an inconvenience. I asked if there were any frames in bold, unconventional colors...I was told that the store "needed to keep up to date in color choices." In other words, I was asking for frames not in style... I've seen lots of frames in those colors on stylish New Yorkers recently.

I just moved from California to New York City to work for JCrew and asked a few of my co-workers for optometrist recommendations. A few of the girls highly recommended Studio Optix, but after reading some of the reviews on here and on yelp I was a little bit skeptical. Regardless, I made the appointment and ended up having the best customer experience ever.

Dr. Cassel was very kind and patient, and walked me through the entire eye exam process. Afterwards, he introduced me to Sandy and she's a true gem. She spent over 2.5 hours with me trying to find the right frame and color that best matches my features and personality. I told Sandy that I was new to New York City, and as I was paying for my purchase Sandy walks over to me with a list of places, restaurants, and things to do. She even wrote down directions to her favorite restaurant that she suggested me to go to for lunch that day.

As I was getting ready to leave, another patient of Studio Optix walks in with a box of Magnolia cupcakes for the entire staff, as a huge thank you to Dr. Cassel and Sandy for staying after hours on a Saturday to fit him for custom color contacts.

Businesses that truly care about their customers are rare to find, especially in the hustle and bustle of NYC. You won't regret being a patient here because you're more like a friend than a customer. I highly recommend them!!!

I got glasses from them a year ago. I went back to get a new pair of glasses this year. You have to wait forever for someone to come help you. They don't like you to look around by yourself. The women who wait on you are so incredibly rude. They have no personality, they make you feel like you are really imposing on them to try on any frames. They have such attitude, they are despicable. It's unbelievable that a store could stay in business with such a lack of customer service. I will NEVER buy glasses from them again. Nobody deserves to be treated with such lack of respect.
Also, I asked the price of a Face a Face brand frame there. it was $630. I have seen the same exact frame at 4 other stores for $495-515. Studio Optix is crazy to mark things up so high. I guess the tourists at Rock Center shop there and don't care, but if you live in New York you should know better than to ever give them your business.
They don't deserve any stars but the lowest rating is one star.

I was fitted for custom contacts a few days ago when I got home I was a bit confused because I felt Sandy order the size lens different then what Dr Cassel agreed on. When email them asking to please email me or call me before going through with my order. They never bothered to email or call me back. I decided to give Dr a call early this morning at 8 am because he would be in very early today. He picked up the phone upset and rude with me because I had emailed him once and then a second time to mention I had gotten a eye infection from trying on all the contacts in his office. To him I was pestering him and did not have the time to answer any of my questions ( his words ) not mine.

He went on to let me know he opened his office today for a special patient and not to answer my questions. He then told me since I had emailed him I would be a difficult patient and he felt I would be a pain once my contacts come in I would always find something to complain about weather it would be the color not right or the lenses too big or too small etc. I asked him why would he talk to me this way when I had never complained about the color of the contacts but was confused because Sandy did not agree on the size lens as he did when I was at his office and I felt she went with her own choice and choose the smaller lens. I just wanted to be sure this was what dr agreed on and not only Sandy. I asked him since it was him who was refusing to go ahead with my order after I had deposit $ 940 . that I should be entitle to a full refund including the $250 for exam he told me I would not get that money back because I have wasted his time. How did I waste his time when I never canceled my order. but instead wanted to know if the proper lens size were ordered because Sandy did not agree on same lens from what she had told me and was going to order a smaller size which was the lens on my right eye.

I should be refunded the entire amount dont you agree? The Dr and sandy were the ones who decided to cancel my order not myself.

anyway I was not only offended by Cassels tone with me this morning but I was very hurt and was in tears after, in disbelief how a Dr who is suppose to be so professional treat a patient like they are nothing!

His office is not only tiny but they only have a chair that can seat 2 people at a time the rest have to stand. They do not have a bathroom for their patients. I asked if they did because I needed to clean my nose and Sandy said no to use tissue at the table where I was trying on contacts. I said I do not b@@@ my nose in front of others because it is not only disgusting but embarrassing to me.

they will not answer your emails or calls and if you call them more then once you will be considered a pain in the a@@ and maybe they will cancel your order.Dr Cassel shame on you and your staff! they are rude not friendly with the people. Only friendly one was Awilda young spanish girl in front desk! the rest just stare.

I have trouble giving Studio Optix even one star. Our family has been a longtime customer of this store and yet treated in the most unprofessional way. They do not stand behind their products. My Husband had the arm to his eyeglasses break twice in the same spot during the warranty period. I would recommend this store for people who are serious about eyewear. This is by far the best place in NYC for glasses. The doctor was very thorough and apparently is highly seeked in the movie industry. I felt special going there and even better picking out my glasses because I get so many compliments

I highly recommend this optical store for all fashionistas. I love to walk around the city trying to find unique fashion pieces and items that are precious and rare. I was so happy to found this optical store. I was amazed by the selection and the knowledgeable staff at this small place. The one staff member who was helping me quickly clued in to what I liked and served up the frames and we were able to pick one that was best suited for my looks. I picked up the glasses a few weeks ago and have been getting compliments from family, friends and people stopping me on the streets. I feel like a winner wearing these glasses!!!!

As a optic aficionado I am always looking to see what is new and fashionable. I had been in Studio Optix before and had some such bad service I vowed a vandetta against them. I still stopped in from time to time to check out the selection but would rather make my purchases in a place that is a little more deserving. In one of my typical browsing sessions I was greeted by a friendly young woman. I was surprised that they actually hired friendly people, they had a such a mean streak going. She took one look at my face and immediately placed a frame in my hand. At first I was reluctant to open up to a strangers advice but I had to test it out. She was right, it was perfect. She then began to explain to me the reasons for her aesthetically pleasing pick. I was converted then and there. I had such a great shopping experience that I thought I must make good on my previous presumption. There is no substitute for service with a smile and a good conversation.

As a optic aficionado I am always looking to see what is new and fashionable. I had been in Studio Optix before and had some such bad service I vowed a vandetta against them. I still stopped in from time to time to check out the selection but would rather make my purchases in a place that is a little more deserving. In one of my typical browsing sessions I was greeted by a friendly young woman. I was surprised that they actually hired friendly people, they had a such a mean streak going. She took one look at my face and immediately placed a frame in my hand. At first I was reluctant to open up to a strangers advice but I had to test it out. She was right, it was perfect. She then began to explain to me the reasons for her aesthetically pleasing pick. I was converted then and there. I had such a great shopping experience that I thought I must make good on my previous presumption. There is no substitute for service with a smile and a good conversation.

The doctor was awesome, very professional and provided me a prescription for eye drops. I needed a new pair of glasses and WOW do they have great frames. They are so deep in frames as they often work in the movie and television industry (so they say and can prove it as I saw someone from SNL in there when I was buying a frame). The eye doctor was excellent providing me with one of the most thorough exams. Dr Cassel explained everything perfectly and even took a photo of the back of my eye. They have the most high tech equipment all computerized. I found so may fun frames, having the best selection and a great staff to guide me to the perfect fit. I highly recommend this place and would definitely recommend Studio Optix to anyone.

This is the coolist midtown eyewear and eyecare store you will find. Dr. Cassel is very professional and thorough, and possesses the most modern equipment available. The very knowledgable staff is patient and the selection of frames is not to be beat. Highly recommended. One note - avoid the place on lunch hours as it getsquite crowded.

His posters of celebrities signing "way to go Doc Mitch" are a little cheesy too. However I could have withstood this had I not gotten charged an $107 "fitting fee" for my contact lenses today. I since checked around and found that most other places charge $25-50 for this. This is not covered by insurance because "contacts are cosmetic" the employees pointed out to me, when I balked at the cost, making me feel fairly vain and like a whiner. I wish I could get a refund and de-fit my eyes then. Not going back next year, and I will just have to throw away the reminder post-card they made me send myself today.

I arrived to return my new glasses after getting them home and realizing there was something wrong with the prescription. After my disappointment with previous visits, I have to say I expected a run-around and extra costs and frustration. Fortunately, it couldn't have been more different. The staff was professional, attentive, courteous, and even nice! I met Dr. Cassel for the first time, he re-examined my eyes and corrected the prescription, even offering to expedite the service and have the new lenses back quickly. As it turns out, he had read my previous review and was very apologetic and interested in hearing my grievances. We had a very frank conversation and I left feeling confident that he valued my patronage and sincerely intended to improve service so that my disappointing prior experience would be a thing of the past. Based on today's visit, I feel that my previous experience was most likely not the norm for Studio Optix, and I may even recommend them in the future.

The staff refuses to help its own customers with frames if the frames are not bought from their store. I wanted to adjust my glasses because they are my doctor and provider but they refused to help because they did not want to be "liable" for breaking my glasses. If they dont help me adjust them, who else would?

STAY AWAY from these people and from this store. You will REGRET going there.

Now he had to avoid making a scene in front of the other clients, and of course took me in, but only after I agreed to pay a full price for a new set of lenses after the revised exam. Making customers pay for doctors mistakes is not a way to do business, and avoiding to fix the problem didn't help. I would avoid this guy if you can. Not worth the headache.

My girlfriend and I went to Studio Optix to get two new pairs of glasses, and told the staff at Studio Optix exactly how much our insurance company was going to cover for each of us. They agreed, called our insurance company to verify the amount, then billed us for the remainder (which was high, but we paid it on the spot). Later we did some comparison shopping and realized we had paid too much at Studio Optix, but that's life.

Months later, they began billing us for an additional amount. I made numerous calls to Studio Optix and my insurance company to find out why we were being billed again. Studio Optix claimed that the insurance company didn't pay the full amount, but when I requested the records from the insurance company I realized Studio Optix had billed more than the covered amount that we had agreed on in their office.

In other words, Studio Optix apparently overcharged the insurance company and then sent us the bill when the insurance company refused to pay the additional amount. I maintained that this was an error on their part; we and the insurance company had clearly communicated our coverage to them and if there was an additional charge, they should have told us about this extra charge up front. They repeatedly told me that I didn't understand, that wasn't the way insurance worked. Meanwhile the insurance company explained the situation clearly and sent me all the records I needed. We were covered for $X, and Studio Optix billed them for $X+Y, so they rejected $Y of the total.

In the end, a year and a half after visiting their office, Studio Optix threatened to send the bill to collections and I paid them off rather than have to deal with a collection agency. I won't be back, I'd recommend you stay away too.

As I have just moved to New York, I found myself desperately needing a reliable new eye doctor. One of my co-workers suggested Dr. Cassel and Studio Optix, so I gave them a try & she was right. Not only was the staff funny and able to fit me for contact lenses and a pair of glasses that I could not have been more pleased with, but they were also flexible. When I requested an evening appointment, I recieved no objection whatsoever. I highly recommend Dr. Cassel & the staff at Studio Optix.

I waited more than 3 weeks for my contact lens, I called them, they answered with "no information from your insurance company yet". After one week, I called them, still replied to me with the same answer. Then I called my insurance company, I found out actually they just faxed my prescription a few days ago!!!!!! unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Repair done very quickly and professionally. However, the young spanish woman at the front-desk is EXTREMELY RUDE. Simply ignored me for close to 10minutes - various phone calls, typing away on the computer - not even any eye contact. She'd be fired in my business. Go elsewhere.
