Dr. Newton looks after my 2 sons, a teen and an adolescent. he has helped improved their behavior. He does listen to the complains but would not hear ideas from internet of TV. He becomes upset whenever I said "i read it on the internet". In general he is a good doctor

Started seeing him a year ago. there is a policy of "no call no show fee" at his office. i think this is not right. one must call 24 hours prior to the appointment to cancel. Aside from that he is very good at answering quetions and providing medical help. He could be "standoffish". rarely smiles but when he does has an infective one..just digressing. Well decorated office. His office staff are not all that friendly.

Dr. Newton treated me with a combination of medication and therapy. He is very intelligent and most times will tell you exactly the way the illness is. There should be no expectations of quick fixes and his method of treatment worked for me. prior to seeing him, I was not able to perform well in my job, or to even partake in activities of daily living. he had changed all that. He is an intelligent man.
As a patient, just be honest and straightforward with him.

For many years I was treated for depression by my PCP and other psychiatrists. While I was no longer depressed, i continue to feel very tired and lethargic. He did a comprehensive blood work and diagnosed me with pernicious anemia (vit B12 deficiency). Mind you he is a psychiatrist. A shot of vit B12 monthly had turned my life around. to me he is a great physician.

I used to live in the Carolinas prior to moving to central, PA. I saw him at a different office where he consults for a multi-County MH/MR program. While prior to seeing him, I virtually dictate to the physicians the direction of my treatment. At our first meeting he changed that. he was clear that he does not use internet or Tv to treat patients. furthermore i had to abide with his recommendations which include laboratory and radiological investigations. All these made all the changes in my life. My husband and children are happy with my recovery. i have hiom to thank for being firm..Others might think of him differently, to me he is a very good and excellent Doctor

I wrote a review at a different site for this doctor. The summary is he saved our son. Me and my husband had taken our son to the biggest medical center in the area and we were simply told, "There is nothing wrong with your child, you are just bad parents". He was having troubles at school and at home. He did a full evaluation, referred us to another specialist who conducted more tests. He put him on two different medications and his improvement has been progressively rapid since then. Thank you for giving our son back. I had read some older reviews about this Doctor and I do not know what these people are talking about.

He told me my sone does not need medication. He went further to tell me that all he has is a character problem. He at a point blamed me for my parenting style.ln fairness to him, this was at a time when I was going thorough personal crisis and my son's father was not there.AS a physician he does know what he is doing. He was able to help my son find a therapist and he help avert his expulsion from school.I will give him 3 stars. He could be very rude and snobbish at times. All said my son is doing better and a senior in high school.

I was a graduate student 6 years ago when I developed depression and anxiety. Also I was abused in the past and my studies was suffering. I saw him 9 months after my illness started. He was very meticulous and he spent time explaining the illness. I remembered him saying "treating mental illness with medication is like throwing a dice, it may take 2 03 trials of medications to get the right treatment". He was right. The journey to recovery has been long and tortous. I would call him in crisis and his response would be "Come to the office the next clinic day" His office staff usually does not like this since I was not scheduled. He had visited me at my campus at a time he was in the area and I called him in the middle of crisis. To me he was more than a physician he was a helper. I'm a teacher so I could be very stingy with grades, hence the 4 stars. .

I was addicted to drugs and alcohol and was also very depressed. I also work in the healthcare industry. He actually helped me to regain my license. In view of my addiction histroy he was always suspicous of me. Some of the medications he prescribed were controlled medications. He made me bring to each office visit all of my medications and he would count them. i found this to be annoying. I had been cleaned for 3 years but somehow will continue to count my meds to make sure I'm taking them the way he prescribed them. He has a dry sense of humor and could be sarcastic at times. In general he does his job well. I continue to see him and he could be very frank and blunt with his medical advise.

Dr. Newton saw my 2 children aged 9 and 7. At the initial visit he recommended 2 medications for my daughter and 1 for my son. When I got home I researched one of the medications for my daughter and found out it was for hypertension. He did mention that in small dosages it is used to treat behavioral problems in children,. I did not fill the prescription. Following the next visit he discharged both the children. I agreed, I should have called him but he would not even listen to any explanation. in anger I shouted "I hate you". his response was "I'm not your friend, I only treated your children". He is thorough in his evaluation but sort of arrogant. His explanation was " You are a malpractice insurance risk" he gave me a list of other Doctors.I will still rate bhim very high, due to his professionalism. He however could not have discharged my patients for what was obviously my own personal error.

I was a patient of Dr. Newton for a few years. I have acquaintances who also are clients of his that have told me he leaked my private information to them. Very PRIVATE, very CONFIDENTIAL information. Do not trust Dr. Andrew Newton, for he will not hesitate to break the privacy act if you are on his bad side.

for years I was tried on different medications for depression. Anytime I go to my Primary care Physician he would try some samples with me. When i first met him he explained the illness in details and the expectations from medications. Will always remember "The side effects before the benefits" He threw the dictum "3 to 4 weeks" out of the window and said it will be a minimum of 19-26 weeks of adequate therapeutic dosage and that was 4 years ago. Had not been to the hospital since that time.

For 9 years he has been my doctor and he is very understanding and thorough in his clinical evaluations. He does not beats about the bush and makes the patient to be responsible towards his/her care. I had been able to go back to working full time and he has always made out time to see me in crisis. Caution, he would not prescribe narcotics or addictive drugs liberally.

I first saw Dr. Newton at his Danville, PA office in 2001. As at that time I was doing very poorly with my mental illness. i have had numerous hospital admissions for my illness. He explained to me what had to be done. The medications and their side effects.Today I'm back working full time with good credit. I no longer collect welfare and things are going well for me. I see him once a month and he monitors me very closely. He is a practical and wonderful Psychiatrist who truly care for his patients. I read some of the reviews and I could not imagine that they are talking about the same Doctor. They must have gone thee for a very different reason or refused to listen to him. I would recommend him to friends, families and those who seriously wants to get better.

I have the misfortune of having 2 children with severe developmental disorder. Prior to seeing Dr. Newton, I had seen few experts who would not agree on a specific diagnosis.
After the long evaluation he told me in detail that my children both have AUTISM. He went further to explain that there are no specific medications that are used for the condition. Symptoms will be teased out and managed accordingly which he did. He also told me that behavioral and educational managements are pivotal in their treatment.
He communicates consistently with the school for the help he thinks the children might need to improve their level of functioning.
He is very "obessed" with punctuality and calling into the office to cancel appointments. I read some of the reviews and most of what were written were simply not true. For individuals looking for secondary gains from seeing a Psychiatrist ...beware. He would not hesitate to let you leave the office. I had taken my time to write this review and to tell others that heis an excellent and practical physician who is very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him with no reservations. According to this site, his address is located at 129 East 5th Street, mount Carmel, PA 17851 and not as written.

I started seeing him about 5 years ago. Initially it was very difficult as I was not willing to come to term with my addiction. He was very clear that for him to treat me, I would have to go to Drug and Alcohol Rehab which I did.
He explained the interaction between mental health meds and substance use. He was emphatic that he would not prescribe any habit forming pills and would discharge me from the clinic if he discover that I'm using drugs.
He is very emphatic, blunt and practical. I read some of the reviews and definitely most are biased. They would not admit what went wrong. His office is always full of patients, and if he is doing poorly he should be left with no patients. The waiting list is long too. Overall he is an excellent and well informed physician. I would highly recommend to those who want to get well from their mental illness.
