I have been a patient of Dr. Melissa Oh for many years. When I initially came in for a session, she noticed numerous hidden cavities that my first dentist missed. Her cleaning was much more thorough as well. I always enjoy hearing her wise words of wisdom with many random facets of life. My only concern is the distractingly nice girl at the front desk, especially because I need absolute full concentration while my teeth are being worked on. If you see a cute Chinese girl sitting at the front, be careful she is dangerous.

I recently took my daughter to Dr. Oh for her first dental visit. Dr. Oh did a great job explaining everything that was about to happen in an effort to help put my 4 year old at ease. Unfortunately, she explained everything in detail except for the one thing that would actually freak out my daughter -- the movement of the chair. So, as soon as the dental chair was moved up and back, my daughter got scared and began to cry. Fortunately, Dr. Oh was able to work around this a bit by not having the chair moved back quite as far as she is accustomed. Dr. Oh counted my daughter's teeth and said that she had the 20 teeth that are expected in a 4 year old child. Then, unfortunately, Dr. Oh also found a rather large cavity in my daughter's mouth. As my daughter had a little anxiety (due to the chair incident described), Dr. Oh recommended we take her to a pediatric dentist. At this point in the appointment, Dr. Oh also abruptly questioned the diet that I feed my daughter (which includes NO juice, very little sugar, and lots of diary and veggies). The questioning was done in an accusatory manner and was very off-putting, making me feel absolutely horrible. It would have been better if she had been able to do this questioning in manner that was educational rather than as a denunciation.... I cannot imagine that the method she used would be effective for any patient. Dr. Oh then gave us a referral to another dentist, but when we called the number we learned that it was actually an orthodontist. After doing some research on our own, we found a very good pediatric dentist. The new dentist, upon counting my daughter's teeth pointed out that she actually has an extra tooth. After looking inside my daughter's mouth myself, I am not sure how Dr. Oh could have missed this. Overall, I would not recommend Dr. Oh as a dentist. It was really bothersome that the referral was so inaccurate. As a parent, it was annoying that she spent more time explaining the use of gloves than the movement of a chair -- thus making my daughter nervous. Then it was upsetting to have dental advice dispensed with what, at best, can be described as a poor bedside manner. And, it is downright worrisome that Dr, Oh did not even count the teeth correctly. It makes me wonder what other more serious situations would be overlooked or misjudged. I am glad that all this surfaced before Dr. Oh did any more than a routine tooth cleaning on my daughter.
