I am writing this review to dispel some of the undeserved negative comments I have read concerning Dr. Martin. I have been seeing Dr. Martin for exactly a year now and have not had the bad experience that others have written about in this site!

I have a couple of ongoing conditions, one of which is leg and back pain! I am happy to say I am feeling so much better since seeing her. It is great to go to a doctor who can treat you and give you physical therapy right in her office! At our other duty station, I had to go thru the process of going to an orthopaedic, a pain management therapy doctor who treated me with shots and epidurals that did not work, and finally physical therapy which helped the most! Dr. Martin provides the same type physical therapy I received there and got me feeling and walking better in LESS visits. If you have leg and back pain, I highly recommend her!

I can attest that she is up-to-date on the latest natural medicines for older women as well as the conventional type meds. I too, was told I needed certain vitamins, and it didnt upset me! I have had no problem getting a referral I needed.

I may have been in nicer looking medical offices, but those offices were shared by several other doctors. Dr. Martin is the only doctor at this location and is currently in the process of updating her office. She is professional in appearance and dresses better than most of the patients I have seen, including myself! Her staff is kind and courteous!

Personality wise, Dr. Martin has a business-like manner is very direct upon the first few meetings. Just because you may not like her bedside manner does not mean she is not a good doctor. However, she is the first doctor that BELIEVED me when I told her about my symptoms and pain! If you have several ongoing conditions, you will probably need more visits. She is a doctor that is interested in helping you feel better and making you well. If you just want refills to continue on with the same meds without thought and concern, see another doctor.

Dr. Martin is rude, opinionated, refuses to take the time to listen or collect all the facts before coming to a conclusion. She dishes out drugs to placate patients and will basically do whatever it takes to make a buck.
Her ethics are questionable and the office is dirty.

Having read all the other reviews, I feel the need to write my own review of Dr Martin.

At first, she annoyed the heck out of me with test after test after test, I realize now that she was just being thorough and the reason I didn't get an explanation was because I didn't ask the right question. I didn't ask the right questions because until I saw Dr Martin, I didn't believe I was allowed to ask questions of doctors. I've had a number of bad experiences with doctors in the past. It didn't take long, but I was able to express my concern that she would think my complaints were all in my head.

Dr Martin ALWAYS took the time I needed. Once, after a physical exam revealed pain in my lower right abdomen, she ordered an immediate CT scan, to be done at the local hospital. Although I was her last appointment for the week (4:30 on Friday afternoon) she called me at 6pm with the results. It was a minor cyst on my ovary, but she didn't want me to be worried the entire weekend. Unlike other doctors, Dr Martin wants to "see" the patient before providing any treatment. I had blood work that turned out normal, but because I was in her office, she was able to develop another theory about what could be wrong. My condition can't be diagnosed by an abnormal blood test, so I was grateful that she was willing to take the time to review the results, ask more questions, and order more tests.

It would be irresponsible and unethical for any doctor to write a referral, order tests, or write prescriptions to a patient without examining them, or knowing without a doubt what is wrong based on a phone call.

Her office isn't the most modern facility I've ever seen and could use a fresh coat of paint, but I've never seen it unsanitary, nor have I seen a 'dirty' lab coat. Since there aren't any sinks in the exam rooms, she can't wash her hands in those rooms, however I witnessed her washing her hands in the restroom!

On the rare occasions I had to wait more than 30 minutes for my appointment, I was always told by the receptionist that there was a delay. If, on a regular basis, I had been unable to get an appointment within a day or two of calling, or if I had to wait a bit longer to be seen, it would mean that the person I'm seeing is in demand and good at what they do. I would be more concerned if I was always seen early for an appointment, or if there were always same-day openings.

In the 1 1/2 yrs I saw her, I never once heard Dr Martin yell at or about a patient. Yes, the walls are quite thin, and it's possible to overhear, but how about making a suggestion that she get a noise machine, rather than complain about it? She might not be aware of this.

And that brings me to another point. I would be willing to bet that of all the negative reviews on this site, none of the people actually asked her, "why must I have repeated office visits, long waits, why didn't you check on me when I was in the hospital, why don't you wash your hands",etc I would also be willing to bet that she would have a legitimate and valid answer for all of those questions!

When I moved back to NM last October, I was very disappointed that I would no longer be able to have her as my doctor. Unfortunately my experience with doctors in NM have reinforced that my prior experiences with doctors before I saw Dr Martin are the "rule" rather than the "exception".

She made me cry. She was judgmental, rude and acted like I was inconveniencing her. I went in to get a blood test for pregnancy and she treated me as if I were a child. My husband was in the room and was getting really angry with the tone she was using with me. She was unpleasant and I don't recommend her. Her staff is wonderful, however, and I will be sad to leave them.

ER doctors and specialist do not send reports to your primary doctor unless you specifically request them to and sign a release.

My experiance with Dr Martin has been excellent and have recommended her to all my friends and family.

If you are looking for someone who is wishie washie and is hesitant look else where. However, if you are looking for a thinking, accessing and decisive doctor, you need Dr Martin. At times I have felt that she keeps asking the same question but looking back it is because I talked but didn't answered the question. Sometimes it is because I myself had not taken the time to think about a pain, ache or other condition/feeling that is important in making a total accessment.

Office staff is friendly, effective and professional

Horrible Doctor. Don't go to her for anything worse than a wort. I ended up hospitalized because she doesn't know what she's doing. I called myself to update her and she never checked on me once. Now when i need an oncologist she wont write a refferal without an office visit because she "doesn't know what's going on with me" But she never bothered to check even though I updated her from the hospital. Now I'm stuck in a nursing home trying to recover from her mistreatment and I'm only 56. STAY AWAY from this Doctor....

Very Helpful!!! I felt comfortable in Dr. Martin's office. I would highly recommend this doctor! I have had no problems like the ones described in the other reviews. Her coat has always been clean, she is not ignorant, and she never pestered me for the answer she wanted!

Complete Quack. STAY AWAY! This woman has clearly forgotten the Hippocratic oath.

Why you should stay away from Dr. Martin:

Long and unnecessary wait to see the doctor. Approx wait time 45 min just to see the doctor. My appointment lasted 2 hours total.

Does not listen the patient's concerns! Instead she leads patient's answers by asking the same question a million ways until she gets the answer she wanted. Disregards any concerns expressed by the patient. She will bully the patient to provide answer that fits her diagnosis rather then diagnose the actual problem.

Orders unnecessary labs and/or procedures. Partially because she has no idea what she's doing, partially so she can make more money because she can bill for these extra procedures etc. The more you come back, the more money in her pocket, and the less in yours.

Dirty. The post regarding her lab coat is absolutely true. Her lab coat is literally brown and she has unacceptable hygiene. Did not wash her hands or even use sanitizer after touching her patients. She is also prejudice and judgmental. If patients are not 100% compliant she washes her hands of them, but only after she berates them for a half hour. I heard her yelling at another patient in the next room while I waited to see her. Which reminds me she is completely unprofessional.

Unprofessional and possibly violates HIPPA (Regulations for patient health and insurance information and privacy protection) - she talks loudly about patient in the hall where others patients can clearly hear. Clear disregard for patient privacy.

Does not provide proof for diagnosis. Does not like to be asked questions that challenge or even inquire as to how she reached her final diagnosis of your problem.

If this is not enough to deter you from seeing this doctor then you deserve to see her and have your time wasted.

My suggestion: find another doctor.

From the start, it was a nightmare. My first appointment was scheduled for 9am. I arrived 10 minutes early and was not taken into a room until 10:30. FOR REAL! Then this DR had the nerve to tell me that because I did not take a multi vitamin every day, that I do not have the right to be heathly! I am a working single mother with 5 kids, newly divorced, doing the best I can do, which includes giving my kids vitamins, but not myself (I usually forget). Yet I dont deserve to be healthy. Oh yeah, and her lab coat is almost brown because it is so dirty. Then I have to come back a week later to get a pap because its been awhile. Did'nt wait long for that visit, but OK, lets see if her coat is clean this time. Nope. And I'm here for a PAP! SCARY! Then at that visit she tells me she wants fasting labs next week. Why couldn't she have told me that at the first visit? Then we could have done the bloodwork and the Pap the same day. So I come in AGAIN a week later for bloodwork. I walk in at 8:30 as soon as the office opens. At 8:45 another woman walks in. Dr pops her head out the door and says hello to her. The woman responds "can we hurry and draw the blood? I want to go shopping." 5 minutes later, she was taken in the back and 10 min later she left. So here I am, obviously here for almost an hour now and I'm still waiting. Didnt leave until 9:30. Now I am battling with them, because she wants me to come back in THIS Friday for a "follow up." What a joke. There is no reason I should have to come back. She should be able to tell me over the phone what my results are and any action if necessary. Its called a "phone consultation." No they wont do that. Even though I have explained I am a SINGLE WORKING mother. I have to take time off to see her (arriving to work late or having to leave early) and jeopordize my job. She is a DR, she made an oath to "do no harm" and as far as I am concerned, she is taking money out of my pocket (food out of my kids mouths) with these repeated silly office visits, when, with a little better planning, it could all be accomplished in 1 or 2 visits. Instead I have been to this office every friday for the last 4 weeks. (this Friday makes the 4th visit) Needless to say, they are going to give me all of my paperwork and results and I will never, ever go back. I am also going to call the people (company) who recommended her and tell them they shouldnt be. This is absolutely riddiculus!

Where do I begin, as a person she seems to be ok. But the longer I had her as a PCF (Primary Care Physician) the more I realized that she was getting me to come in to see her more than needed. She has a habit of making you come back to see her to discuss multiple medical issues rather than talking about them at one office visit. I do realized that you address one major issue at a time, but sometimes that one major issue isn't uncovered until a doctor has a complete picture of all of your symptoms. Her follow up is also something to talk. You don't get calls from her office with your test results, instead you have to hope and pray that they keep track of the fact that they ordered the test. Oh wait, I forgot, she makes you come in to get your results, even when nothing is wrong!

She has a revolving door when it comes to medical assistants. In the last 5 months I have personally seen or spoken to 7 medical assistants. She only keeps one medical assistant at a time, yet she has had 7 in the last 5 months. Something is just not right about that.

I am a friend of Take Your Child to Work Day, but she takes it to the extreme. I have seen her teenage daughters walk through the office halls and call for her while she is in with patients. Where is the professionalism?

As I said when I started, she is a nice person to chat with, but not someone that I consider worthy of the title of PCF for me. If you want to chat, go see her. If you want to chat about your medical issues and get treatment without having to make another appointment to talk about a secondary medical issue, get someone else!
