I understand this is a community and sharing great things about exceptional people is often rare - this doctor was pretty impressive. Referred for this doctor came from my primary care physician so I had confidence but I still wasn't entirely comfortable. I arrived at this doctors about 10 minutes before my appointment filled out forms and was quickly led to a room. I had brought my MRI from my primary care doctor. There was a ten minute wait to be brought back but again I was early and the doctor saw me immediately after I was in my room. Dr. Hughes took his time listening to me explain how I had torn my ACL playing soccer. After examining and confirming the diagnosis he thoroughly explained options and answered my questions. He went over my MRI in detail and answered my additional concerns about surgery and recovery. I was surprised to find out he is one of the only surgeons in the area that does not use 'allografts' he preferred to use my own tendon for repairing my ACL. I was happy to have found an experienced and knowledgeable doctor who wanted to choose the best option. I decided to go through with surgery & was pleased with the scheduling by his office staff to work around my travel. Dr. Hughes sent me to a four star physical therapist who was the key to getting me moving again. I just started running again and me knee feels back to normal. I couldn't be happier with my care, my surgeon & the end result.

These comments might be too premature and I will be willing to change them if things turn around in the future. But right now I am frustrated. I saw this doctor 2 times already & I am not too happy so far. My first appt. was 3:30 p.m., but saw me @ about 4. He appeared so tired, in fact he was yawning & did not listen to what I was saying. He quickly said he knows my problem & sent me to therapy for 6 weeks. After 4 weeks of therapy, I got worse so I asked for emergency 2nd appt. this time I asked for 9:30 am. He was surprised my knee was swollen & I told him it was already swollen the first time I saw him. He drained my knee after xray & said I will be OK & asked to see me in 2 weeks. I tried to point out that there are 2 areas of my knee having pain. He seems not to listen. This is my first time having a knee problem so I wanted to know a little about it, but I didn't get any. I wanted to ask questions but he seemed in a hurry. Some doctors will ask patients before parting if they have any questions, this one does not, at least not to me. I will be seeing him in 2 weeks, but if my frustration still remains, I'll look for another doctor. Currently, I am not feeling any better, my knee still is hurting & swollen the same as the first time, if not worse. I am very disappointed not to mention in great pain.
==========
After a week, this is now a follow-up of what I said above. I visited Dr. Hughes' website. What he said about how he deals with patients are nice things. But my experience was different during my visits. I couldn't wait for a week in agony. So I did not come back. I found another doctor recommended by a friend who now ordered an MRI. But after he saw the result he said he could not do anything about my situation. I felt as if the whole world collapsed -- this doctor gives up on me. This time I realized that it is not a simple case that I believed Dr. Hughes seemed to take for granted.

My son upon knowing did not give up & found a very good Orthopedic Surgeon who is well known in the bay area by all the major & professional sports clubs. When this new doctor saw the MRI he was appalled why I was allowed to walk on it for a month without any kind of support. He did not allow me to move until after he gave me a knee brace & crutches. And I fully understood all what he said. In fact he also went outside to see my son & explained everything. Whether I will be cured or not I am already very comfortable with this new doctor. He already made plans several contingent options.

I really feel like taken for granted except by the 3rd doctor. Why doctors?
