New to San Antonio and chose Dr Porter based on reviews. I did have to wait over a month to get an appt, but I figured that was a good sign that it was a good dentist office.
I received four calls on Thursday to confirm my appt the following Monday. The last message was borderline rude, and she obviously was irritated I hadn't called her back and threatened to double book my appointment if I didn't return her call right away.
Unfortunately, it was Spring Break, and I was at SeaWorld with my son. Not wanting to get my phone wet, I didn't have it with me. I got the messages and returned the call at 4:57pm, and they were already gone, and were closed Friday.
They called this morning (Monday) and said yes I still had my appointment. YAY!
What they didn't tell me is that they DID double book the appointment. I arrived 10 minutes early to do paperwork, and waited 35 more minutes before they took me back. They sat me in the exam chair, and I waited another 10 minutes. They doctor came in and examined my soft tissue and gums and teeth, then walked away. I waited another 5 minutes....the hygeinist came over and took xrays. (nice thing they were all digital and was done in 2 minutes.) I waited another 10 minutes...
The Doctor came back and reviewed the xrays - spent another 5 minutes with me. (He was very good - very nice bedside manner.)
That's when he informed me that since I didn't call them back that they double booked the appointment, but wanted to accommodate me and that I should get a book to read while I wait 20 minutes to get my teeth cleaned.
That's when I let him know I was disappointed that I was expected to return their call on the same day it was received before 4:57 pm - especially given the fact that it was Spring Break - AND the fact that they were closed the next day (Friday).
I felt that I was given the short end of the stick considering I was the one who scheduled in advance, and the person who slipped in as a double book got priority treatment. It was obviously an error on the part of the office worker who failed to call me at least 2 (working and open) days prior to my appointment. So After 1 hour and 40 minutes, I left with an exam and NO cleaning.
I had to rebook a cleaning, and they could not get me in for another month!!
I hope this was an anomaly, and will see when I take my son in for his appointment. At this point I cannot recommend this office, but will try it again (my cleaning and son's appt) and see.

Dr. Porter and his staff are wonderful. I had to caps put on my front teeth when I lived in Alaska. When we moved to Texas, we started seeing Dr. Porter and he noticed that the previous dentist never replaced the metal post causing a dark shading to show through my cap. Dr. Porter redid the caps and replaced the post. After redoing my caps, he noticed that the shade the lab applied to them was too dark. He immediately ordered new ones at a lighter hue and replaced them. He takes pride in his work and is wonderful with people.

The business is at a convenient location right off the 1604 loop. At times, since it is located within a busy shopping complex, parking can be hard to find. The staff is nice and will have your insurance information completed before you get there so you don't spend time waiting for authorization for treatments. The dentist was very nice and does a thorough job. This office is also kid-friendly and made my daughter's first visit less scary.
