I was referred by my primary care doc to see Dr. Filion, who came highly recommended. I was pleased by my visits and have brought my son to see him as well. Office is busy but Dr. Filion takes time to discuss care with you. He was very knowledgible and explained my injury and treatment options.Overall a positive experience and recommend him highly to my friends.

Pros: great ortho sports doc, only in Hoboken office 1 day per week

Cons: no parking, scheduling can be tough

.

Large, well established practice with multiple types of orthopedists ( ie: foot/ankle, joint replacement, upper extrem., and sports medicine). I have seen Dr. Filion many times dating back to college, as Dr. Filion was our team doctor at Stevens Tech in Hoboken. Each visit was a great experience as I found Dr. Filion to be personable and professional. He took the time to explain my injury , review films, and discuss treatment options. Most importantly, he takes a conservative approach and does rush into unnecessary surgery. Many of my former teammates have sought him out for second opinions for our injuries after college. He was recommended highly by our athletic trainers at school ,and I believe he is one of the team doctors with the NY Giants. Overall, a consistently positive experience that I recommend to all my friends.

Pros: personable, great knowledge of sports medicine, former collegiate soccer player

Cons: parking is tight, but its Hoboken, can be difficult to get appointment with (busy practice)

I saw Dr Dean Filion for hip pain in late 2004. He took X-rays and ordered an MRI. After reviewing them, he told me I had fluid in my hip, and sent me to three months of therapy at Ivy Rehab. In that time I developed difficulty walking and doing basic activities. I should mention I am 29, 6'5", in good shape, and played basketball through college.

For my follow up visit, Dr. Filion heard my problems, suggested 3 more months of therapy, and offered a cortizone shot. I sought treatment elsewhere. I was recommended to Dr. Bryan Kelly at HSS, who took new MRIs and X-rays. I am currently recovering from my 3rd surgery for LABRAL TEARS and BONE SPURS in both hip sockets, and doing much better than in 2004. There was no fluid, it was inflamed tissue which only got worse with the therapy.

Dean Filion was so indifferent to my problem, it bordered on rudeness. The first time he seemed hurried; The second time I saw him, as a previously-healty man barely able to walk without severe pain, our total interaction was less than five minutes. I timed it. He exhibited no interest in my problem, and couldn't seem to get out of the room quickly enough. I have talked to 2 others who have had the same experience.

He is simply extending people's suffering through his ignorance or incompetence. Dr. Filion would have me a cripple if I was still under his "care", and if I gave my job as little attention and interest as he did his, I'd be unemployed.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I urge you to please send anyone with hip problems to see Dr. Kelly. He has been most knowledgeable, attentive, and thorough.
