Dr. Amersi was unwilling to spend time answering my questions. I was actually her senior partner's patient, and the office insisted I see her a couple of times incase she ended up delivering my baby. After those two visits, I was convinced that her style (of answering only the questions she deemed important enough), and not being willing to spend time in our appointment did not fit our style.
Unfortunately, the senior doctor was on vacation starting the day after my unplanned C-sec, and Dr Amersi ended up covering for him. The hospital called her at night for pain relief medication (they needed her to prescribe for me) when I was in so much pain that I could not sleep. In the morning, she yelled at me for waking her up in the middle of the night instead of waiting till she came in the morning.
She wrote up discharge orders without even consulting me, that discharged me from the hospital two whole days before I was ready, and before the insurance no longer covered my stay. (C-sec allows 5 days, and she wrote discharge papers for 3 days). When the nurse told me that I was going to be discharged, and I told her that I was not leaving, then the doctor had to be called for new orders (as she had not even discussed them with me).
I was discharged on the weekend, and her office failed to send the pain meds prescription to the pharmacy. When I called he on the weekend, she told me it was my fault for not following up with the pharmacy during office hours, and that she will not help me till Monday. Mind you, I had just had a c-section, and she wanted ME to ensure that HER office filled my prescription.
Overall, she made me feel helpless, and worthless with the way she treated me. I was shocked that someone who has had children could have such little sympathy for a patient of their own. I was also shocked that an OB was upset that she was called on the night and weekend. Last time I checked, people were still having emergency c-sections, and babies in the middle of the night, and OBs are expected to be availble 24/7 for that.
I would never recommend her to anyone.
Her partner, Dr. Yashari, is amazing. If you do select their office, I would recommend you use him.

Message from Shamsah Amersi, MD

I am thrilled to share with you that we have opened our office door and are ready to have you visit us in our beautiful new office in Santa Monica. As a female obstetrician & gynecologist, I recognize the importance of providing the best personalized care for patients that encompass compassion, and comprehensive focused attention to all aspects of a woman's well being. Over the past year, it became very clear to me that in order to practice excellent medicine I needed to be in a setting where patients were given 100% access to me only, in lieu of being in an assembly line for whichever doctor was available, regardless of whether they knew you, your story and what truly matters to you. The continuity of care with a patient and doctor is paramount to a successful health outcome in lieu of fragmented medical care with different providers. To help achieve this, our office is proud to offer evening and weekend appointments to accommodate your schedule and needs. My staff has been carefully chosen so from the moment you enter the office, you are comforted by the warmth, genuine care and exceptional service from my entire team. At each visit, you will be seeing me, and not rotated through different doctor. In addition, each of my patients will have 24 hour access to me, including email and phone. For each patient, visits will include a comprehensive meeting with me, detailed examination including all necessary medical tests, and detailed ultrasound performed if medically indicated. In addition, lab testing will be performed in the office. Every pregnancy visit will include an ultrasound and access to the leading perinatologist throughout your pregnancy. We are implementing electronic medical records, the most modern and optimal medical communication between you and me. After each visit, you will have access to all your results, so the "no news is good news" is replaced by detailed information of your tests and recommendations by me to optimize your health.
