I must agree completely with the previous reviewer. I also understand reviews are often posted when one is angry or has issues with a doctor. I feel very compel to write a review because Dr. Hannauer is an extreme alarmist. My son was born prematurely and had received physical and occupational therapy, and was under the care of another neurologist before my insurance was switched. He is walking and talking like any other toddler his age. After waiting for over four months to have an initial consult, Dr. Hannauer diagnosed him with cerebral palsy. No other therapist had mentioned this diagnosis. I was shocked. She said this diagnosis would help him get services. Also like the last reviewer, as she was holding the door for my son and I to walk out, she casually mentions, the CP is mild - if you do weekly PT and OT, she may walk with a limp!!!! I was floored that she said that ON MY WAY OUT THE DOOR. I was so confused and scared that my little boy will walk with a limp! He certainly doesn't have a limp now!

The front office staff, Rosanna is very nice and accommodating. However, it is impossible to get an appointment. But she does get you in to see Hannauer very promptly.

I decided to stop seeing her after the second and third appointment she told me I am not getting my son enough therapy (we had PT and OT four times a month, and the therapists were absolutely fine with his progress). She bashed the place I was going to (it's certainly a reputable organization) and wanted me to go to these other places that are out of my coverage (and I have a PPO). Then out of the blue, on our way out the door the 2nd time, she mentions casually "oh it's no unusual for kids to be making great progress, then completely digress and can't walk the next day". The third time "It not unusual to have no issues and at age 3, suddenly requires a brain shunt.?

It is not that I am not liking what I hear, it is the casual manner which she mentions very alarming information WHILE YOU ARE WALKING OUT THE DOOR and the next client is coming in. You always feel much worse than when you went in.

I find her to be a poor diagnostician and an extreme alarmist. If two neurologists and three therapists are telling me my son is doing okay and Dr. Hannauer tells me he may walk with a limp or not at all and needing a shunt out of the blue, I think something is not right.

There is not a lot of pediatric neurologist in Torrance, but I strongly warn if you must see her for a consult, take her advice with a boulder of salt and seek second and third opinions.

I never write reviews. In fact, as a healthcare professional myself I know the bias, and often anger, with which these reviews are written therefore, I rarely give online reviews much credence. However, I feel compelled to write this review. My three year old was seen by this doctor. After two office visits, Dr. Pantea Sharifi Hannauer concluded that my child was autistic but, as she walked us out of her office she said to me, "but don't worry, it's only mild". I drove home confused. I have a post-doctoral degree and didn't believe that I was that blind to my child's psychological status. Therefore, I sought a consult from other specialists, who did hours of testing, and a school visit. Thie other two, qualified specialists stated that my child was not autistic at all .Rather my child had auditory defensiveness that added to pre-existing anxiety. With six months of occupational therapy my child was completely transformed. Not only did the other professionals perform more thorough tests than did Dr. Sharifi Hannauer, but my child was very engaged with these other professionals, whereas Dr. Hannauer was not at all adept at engaging children. (In fact, she told me the fact that my child wanted to bring a stuffed animal to her office-a place we had never been-was a sign that my child was autistic and that the stuffed animal would interfere with any testing she would need to do. She was so off base. The other professionals just incorporated the stuffed animal into the office visit and within a short period of time my child was engaged with the doctor and not the stuffed animal. Dr. Hannauer does not know children and should not be evaluating children. I still wonder why I didn't register a complaint with the medical board.
