Nix Alamo Heights is a wonderful hospital/clinic in Alamo Heights which is paced a little slower than the normal in-and-out, "time is money" sort of doctor's office. The staff are friendly and well trained in their respective positions so the whole process of checking-in to paying-up is smooth and non-stressful. All lab work is available on-site so no scavenger hunts to the Medical Center to locate the X-ray people or the Lab people or the heart people...and no horrid trips downtown to the larger Nix facility. (If the services of the Downtown Nix are required, they provide transportation which is a huge help.) This hospital system is the highest rated in San Antonio and after your first visit you'll see why. Knowledgeable staff; calm well-scheduled visits; clean pleasant waiting rooms; excellent location.

Dr. Shipman is our family physician although his specialty is Internal Medicine. He is easy to talk to and very kind - takes the time to listen to patient's input and considers patient's overall situation in developing a treatment plan. He is in touch with "regular folks" perspective and helps patients get the most for their health care dollars.

Dr. Shipman is very knowledgeable and current in his own education. He is able to help with patients' concerns but doesn't feel it's necessary to preach about the obvious. (No guilt trips about weight or smoking, etc.) Allows patients to take a role in their own wellness.

Previous to finding Dr. Shipman, my husband hated going to doctors visits and basically would only seek medical help when he was gravely ill. Since meeting Dr. Shipman, my husband has actually quit smoking, begun to exercise and addressed his diabetes seriously - and I believe it is because Dr. Shipman is kind, sincere and honest. Hubby could see that Dr. Shipman wasn't pushing for miracles - just one step at a time to get Hubby healthy again. I am really grateful to find a doctor who can communicate with my husband and guide him gently to taking care of his medical issues.

Dr. Shipman is located in the Nix Alamo Heights (not downtown and not in the crazy crowded Medical Center.) I will keep him as my physician wherever he is located - he's almost like family.
