Dr Spiro treated my daughter for vision therapy. He explained exactly what to expect, how long it would take, and how it worked. He and his staff were extraordinary. We drove 1 hr each way and it was an extremely successful treatment. I completely trust Dr Spiro and his assessment. He is honest and delivered exactly what he promised. We tried everything for our child before Dr Spiro was recommended to us by a reading specialist who had worked with him for many years. Yes, the location and decor is funky, but Dr. Spiro is a miracle worker in my book and my daughter now has straight As in GATE classes to prove it. His prices were far more reasonable than specialized programs elsewhere. If your child has difficulty reading, remembering number sequences, directions, etc but seems bright otherwise, get him/her tested by Dr. Spiro.

I found Dr. Spiro a few years ago and am so happy that I did. His office is definitely out of the 70's, but he knows his stuff and his staff is wonderful. He is very thorough and explains everything that he is doing and why he is doing it.

I no longer have vision insurance and asked to obtain a copy of my perscription and/or order a box of contacts until I can afford to pay cash for an exam. I was allowed to purchase one box of contacts and no perscription was provided, which was disappointing. I understand where the other reviewer is coming from, but think she was a bit harsh.

Dr. Spiro genuinely cares about what he does, and wants to protect the integrity of his profession. He is running a business after all, which some tend to forget.

I was late for my appointment but the ladies at the front were nice about it. This doctor knows his stuff. He talked with me during the tests. I learned a lot about my eyes. He sees kids all the time so I'm going to bring mine. He has a Bible in his waiting room. He's a good man.

I went here because I was interested in Vision Therapy to correct my eyes not focusing well together, and the associated eyestrain. I seem to have had bad luck with finding optometrists, because they all seem to be after the money. Dr. Spiro is very well qualified and I think he is on the staff of the Southern California College of Optometry. However, he flat out told me upfront that he wouldn't give me my prescription ( so I could get my glasses and contacts somewhere else) until I pestered him and said I was entitled to it with an eye exam. He also told me that I need to replace my ONE-month contacts every two weeks, and that *the* option I had was to sign up for a $400 program (per 6mos, I think) that would include my contacts and office visits --regular exams, not including vision therapy. I felt a lot of monetary pressure while it was already uncomfortable being in a dark room with a strange doctor. One feels kinda at their mercy when you are young, alone, and need information. I was so angry when I left. I will never go back there again, and do not recommend this place. Maybe someone who can afford the programs will not mind it.

PROS: Educated doctor, quiet location, easy to get to
CONS: Pressure to spend, ugly office out of the 70's, hard to find parking
