Dr. Stephen Purcell is a native of Grenada, West Indies. He obtained his PhD in clinical psychology from Andrews University, and did graduate work in industrial psychology at Western Michigan University. Before beginning his career in psychology, he served as a minister of religion in South America and the Caribbean.
Dr. Purcell has 21 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychologist. He has worked in community mental health and corrections, as well as in private practice, and has extensive experience supervising and training psychologists. He has presented papers on a variety of mental health issues at professional conferences, including the American Psychological Association, Michigan State Medical Association, University of Michigan Medical School, and Wayne State University School of Social Work. Dr. Purcell was also chosen to join a delegation of scientists and psychologists to visit Russia and Estonia, where he consulted with government ministers and colleagues concerning sexual medicine, AIDS education and prevention, and sexual abuse. He has conducted numerous workshops and seminars on issues including stress management, parenting, the effects of divorce on children, coping with depression and anxiety, sexual dysfunction, and the prevention of criminal behavior in adolescents.
