For the first time in my life I actually enjoyed getting new glasses. I usually put off getting new glasses until I really can't see well and then drag myself into somewhere and tense up through the whole process of picking out new frames. Whole different experience this time. Amy spent a good amount of time actively listening to me. I really enjoyed going through a big pile of potential frames before finding one I was and am excited to have. I laughed through a process that I normally cringe through.

The photo machine (where they take photos of you in potential frames) was really great because I can't see without my glasses so have always had to rely on others to say what looked good. This time I got to see what I was choosing for myself.

Fun & empowering. Can't ask for much more.

Pros: Great staff, good product

Cons: not cheap

.

I work for a local company, and quite a few of my co-workers have come back with stylish new glasses that look great and not like what everyone else has. Every time I mentioned that I liked the new look, Eyedentity was the place they'd gone. They'd gained a very good reputation through word of mouth at our workplace, so I made an appointment. Dr. Clause is very easy to work with and explains everything that he's doing. Following my eye exam, Jenna was so much fun helping me pick out two different looks that both work for me. Yeah, what I got wasn't cheap, but I finally have glasses that are actually fun to wear. These are the first progressive lenses that I've ever had and both the Dr. and Jenna took the time to explain how to use them so that my adjustment has been really easy. I'd highly recommend them both for service and product, especially if you want something more interesting than the run of the mill.

Cons: but if cheap is your biggest concern, go somewhere else.

They over priced everything and pushed me to buy their glasses. Although I love my friend who referred me, I will not be taking his advice again. All I can say is just don't bother!

I was told that they hike their prices by 3X, give out false brand numbers and screw over their workers. They also write false reviews to make themselves look better. I would never recommend this place to anyone I cared about. Be ware and spend you're money where they have morals.

It was the worst experience I have had in all of Portland and a very expensive bad time at that. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. For a place that promotes itself on customer service they need to learn what that means. The saga that is my experience with them is to long and costly to tell here. Suffice it to say, they are snotty, inept and way over priced. Save yourself, don't spend your money there.

Pros: none

Cons: Extra Bad Customer Service

I love this place. My last 3 pair of glasses have come from this shop. Its a unique fitting experience, and anyone who wears glasses all the time will appreciate their attention to detail. Friendly service, outstanding selection!!

I had a nice exam in some great atmosphere.
I went there because of a pair of glasses that fit my style.
Bad parts: Sales person seemed more intent spending time with my wife than assisting me with questions on product. Seriously.
A week later I get a call from another staffer that asked and somewhat insinuated that I took the eyewear with me after purchase... why would I take them with me when they are putting in the lenses?
The book keeping must be horrendous. In the end the took an extra week to arrive.

Pros: "trendy" glasses if you do not travel or use the internet.

Cons: disorganized.

You don't think of going to the eye Dr. and having a good time, but I did. The Dr. had really far out equipment that made it so I didn't have to have drops numbing my eyes. He even took a picture of the back of my eye. Then, the assistant helped me pick out frames. It was actually fun. She asked me a bunch of questions that I would never have thought about. I felt like she listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted. People are always telling me how great my glasses look. I will never go anywhere else!

It seemed like my kind of place... local, small, trendy but not on 23rd. It was a nightmare. Jenna lacked the knowledge to help me find the right frames for my high prescription. She was so intent on finding cool colors and designs that she totally neglected to consider a -7.5 might need more than a trendy frame. She even told me you can wear contacts right out of the package (it burns if you don't rinse them with saline). The whole process was an expensive disaster that has only made me appreciate my new doctor and his staff.

Terrible place to invest in new frames! They do push add-ons and make you feel like they're bending over backward for you - but they aren't. They are lazy, greedy, and will have an endless list of excuses if something goes wrong. Go somewhere else, I wish I had...

Pros: some cool frames, sometimes friendly staff

Cons: the high pressure consultation made me feel trapped...

.

From the initial phone call, Jenna made me feel at home, was very enthusiastic and extemely knowledgable. This is not a "walk in and try on some frames" type of place. It is DEFINITELY worth your time to sit down and walk through her process of choosing frames.

Dr. Clouse seemed extremely competent, explained all the procedures and results and was very approachable.

That's a bit of a misnomer: I love the doctor's assistants. The doctor's really nice and seems very competent, but then there are competent people everywhere. This review is about what sets this place apart.

I wouldn't know fashion if it came up and bit me. But I do know a good thing when I see it, and these people are it. I'm not sure how to have this make sense, so I'll try contrasting with my previous glasses experience.

Last place: zillions of frames on the wall. Prices were medium. Buying process was pretty much me trying to figure out which pair of glasses made me look slightly less dorky than the other pair of glasses. Staff was competent and experience was something rather like getting your teeth cleaned.

This place: zillions of frames, some out, some not. Buying process went something like this:

  1. I was asked how much I wanted my glasses to stand out. 1=invisible, 10=Elton John.
  2. The assistant had me try on each pair, then set aside ones she hated.
  3. I tried each pair on, then set aside the ones I hated.
  4. I selected my four favorites.
  5. My picture was taken (straight and profile) and I got to see how the four looked on me.
  6. I picked the best of the four, with the assistant's help.
  7. Now, those of you who are more fashion knowledgeable may not like this process. As mentioned in other reviews, it's not really a drop in and try stuff on place. But this worked great for me. The great input from the experienced and knowledgeable assistant ensured that I not only think I like, but that others will respond well to.

Now regarding price- the prices are high. Normally I would never spend a lot of money on something so completely frivolous. However, consider this: people make their first impressions about you by looking at your face. If you care at all about this sort of thing you want to have glasses which will make a good impression.

I will never get glasses anywhere else as long as Eyedentity is in business.

Pros: My new glasses look fabulous!

Cons: I had to kiss five franklins goodbye to get them.

This office is a little out of the way for those residing in the Vancouver area, and their customer service is only satisfactory. Definitely does not beat the Vancouver Clinic!

The doctor is great! He uses the latest equipment and explains every step of the exam as he goes.

The staff, however, is uneven. Sometimes they are friendly and personable; at other times moody and standoffish. When I did my consultation, I felt great about how it went, but when I picked up my frames (after some hassle with a shipping debacle), I felt rushed and swept to the side as a customer. I actually left with ill-fitting glasses because I felt like I was obligating the staff person to fit them correctly (the warming apparatus is upstairs and she just wanted to bend the frames by hand). Also be careful of add-on costs that might not even benefit your glasses, such as special coatings, treatments, etc. For instance, I paid $20 to get the outer edges of my lenses buffed, only to discover that they were fully covered by the frames, anyway. This is information that I wonder if they knew and didn't disclose for an extra profit margin.

I went to Eyedentity because I walk by them on my way to work and I like to support local businesses. I was so impressed with the approach that they used to help me find glasses. I made an appointment to have a consultation and was blown away. The girl that helped me really knew what she was talking about. She made it so easy and actually a lot of fun. I didn't realize how many factors go into picking out glasses. I've been wearing the wrong size now for years and didn't even know it. I have a really bad prescription and can really see the improvement in my vision now with my new pair. I used to think of glasses as something I had to wear. Now I have some that I like to wear. I was shocked to see negative comments on here about their consultation process, seeing as though they were from people who hadn't even had one. I would never write a review about something I didn't experience. Highly recommended & DO the consultation!

I was just walking by and stepped in to look at their frame selection. I was told immediately that this is appointment only and every customer needs to work with a consultant who will help match frames to a face type, etc. Apparently you can not just pick a frame and have your glasses done.

I asked if I still could look and see if they even have the types of frames I might be interested in. While I was browsing the frame stand (which has a nice but very limited selection, because the majority of frames are tucked away in the drawers), the sales person kept telling me how I might not even know what frames are best for me, how people often are clueless and only a professional can help you understand what is it that you really want. What I also found being very unprofessional is that the sales lady implied that other optical stores are not as good and more care about the sales than the quality of their craftsmanship ? this is the worst ?sales pitch? when you are putting down others ? super unprofessional.

The entire 10 min or so that I was in the store, she kept talking to me but actually was not helpful at all. I found the attitude being pushy (though still polite). Basically in her attempt to convince me that they are THE place to go for the highest quality service, she lost me as a potential client. I did not feel welcome and definitely will not be going back to this place.

Cons: Need to go through a lengthy mandatory consultation process, pushy staff

My husband took me in to get my opinion on some frames that he found there the week before. We were greeted by the receptionist/consultant who then proceeded to tell us that this shop isn't really for walk-in clientele and recommended making an appointment for a consultation. We then were given the distinct attitude/impression that, since her consult was due shortly, that we should just leave.

I am disappointed as the shop is beautifully done and they appear to have a great selection. However, because of this rebuff, neither of us will be back. I'd suggest they make a sign that states they are open for 'consultation only' if that is the tack they are taking.

I stumbled on this place because they took my VSP insurance. I had no idea what I was in for, but man was I impressed. When I walked in, it felt more like I was coming into someones house than a Dr's office. I was skeptical because I didn't see very many frames at first and I am super picky when choosing what goes on my face. Dr.Clouse did my exam. He not only was professional, and thorough, but seemed like an all around nice guy. After we were done, he gave my prescription to the girl at the front and she led me through a "consultation" She asked me so many questions that I would never have thought about before. She was super enthusiastic and after finding out "who I am", she pulled out TONS of the coolest looking frames I have ever seen. I am glad that she was there to help me because I think I would have been overwhelmed otherwise. When I narrowed it down to the last couple, she brought me to a machine that took my picture! I ended up liking them both and getting both of them. I've never had this great of service before and will always go back here for my frames amd exam!
