Dr. Stewart graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1977. Following dental school, Dr. Stewart was employed as a contract dentist from 1977 to 1980 for Project Concern International, who staffed Indian Health Service dental clinics on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico and Arizona. In 1980, Dr. Stewart joined an Albuquerque private practice and completed two years in all phases of general dentistry. Dr. Stewart relocated his private practice to Bosque Farms in 1982 and practiced dentistry there for 32 years, until joining the practice of Valencia Family Dental in October 2013. Along the way, Dr. Stewart completed the entire curriculum at the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Stewart is a Charter Member of the Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry, which aims to restore teeth in the most conservative and biological way, with the ultimate goal of avoiding crowns and root canals whenever possible.
